Modern, clean, cozy dumpling house. Attached parking structure. Complimentary appetizers (peanuts, seaweed salad, and black fungus) and self-served congee. We were there at opening hour (11:30 am) and it took an hour to get our 2nd dish. We only ordered two different dishes and two drinks! It wasn't even busy. We had to keep asking our server and they just nodded and never came back with a definitive answer. This was a complete turn-off. The massive pork soup dumpling was a fun tasty experience. It was jiggly and came with a straw to take in the soup. The pan fried wagyu buns were good but nothing spectacular. My milk tea was really sweet and full of ice. Since we ordered off a QR code, I didn't see an option to customize my drink. Other great menu items I would like to come back and try. Hopefully they will make some improvements.

We had the Kurobata Pork Soup Dumpling and it was amazing, although pricey ($10 for 6 dumplings). I got the Crab Meat and Scallion Oil Noodles. I was too hungry so the small quantity of crab meat was not a deterrent and the Noodles was actually really tasty! My friend got the Braised Beef Noodle Soup and he said the beef was too chewy and the soup wasn't good. He would not get it again.

So excited to have a new dumpling shop in the neighborhood! I'd been looking forward to this place since construction began, and once the signage went up, I was counting down the days to opening. As a bao and dumpling fan, I'm thrilled to support another local business. With any new or popular spot, I usually expect a wait, but we got lucky popping in around 6 p.m. on Sunday. Plenty of customers, but we were seated right away in a comfy booth. The restaurant is brightly lit with cool, modern artwork and design (I'd love to have that wave wall piece in my home!). The giant 4-foot bao character statue at the entrance is such a fun touch. There's a waitlist kiosk at the front if the place gets busier. Ordering is done through QR codes at the table: convenient, and our food came out super fast! (I have mixed feelings about QR code ordering, but the speedy service makes up for it.) Here's what we ordered: -Kurobuta Pork & Crab Soup Dumplings: Super flavorful soup, packed filling, so good! -Classic Fried Rice: One of the best I've had in a while. Not sure what made it so tasty, but it was a winner. -Shrimp and Pork Potstickers: That crispy layer was incredible. -Scallion Pancake: Classic must-have; perfectly done. -Garlic Sautéed Green Beans: Tons of garlic, super yummy, one of my favorites. -Big Mac Soup Dumpling: Fun to try, but not quite as tasty as the regular soup dumplings. Every dish was fantastic and earned my "happy wiggle" from the very first bite. Even though there's no specific waiter, the staff who brought out our food and took payment were both friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely dinner and are already looking forward to our next visit! Highly recommend checking out this new spot if you're a dumpling lover.

I have been wanting to go to this restaurant for a while. I was finally able to go on a Sunday. To my surprise, half of the restaurant was empty. There's no hostess so one of the stuff members just pointed to let me know where I should sit. The food is ordered through the QR code on the side of the table. Here are the things I ordered: steam giant xlb, pan fried pork bun and fried rice cake. The dish I like the most of the fried pork bun. It's really crispy at the bottom and soft on top. The bun is not overly thick and it's juicy inside. My other favorite was the crab and pork steam giant xlb. Although the size of it was a bit smaller than I thought it looked in the picture but you can taste the crab and pork inside. It's also flavorful. As for the fried rice cake, I would probably pass next time. It's overly salted and texture was a bit off. The environment of the place is nice and clean. The food prices were reasonable I would say.

Took my father, mom, hubby, and the kids here for Father's Day lunch, and we arrived right before opening. There was already a line forming outside! Luckily, we were the second or third party in line and were seated immediately. We later found out many people had reservations, and several walk-ins were added to the waitlist shortly after opening. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, with seating for about 50 people, creating a cozy and lively atmosphere. It got busy very quickly after opening, and within a short time nearly every table was filled. It's easy to see why reservations are recommended, especially on busy weekends and holidays. We ordered quite the spread to sample as much as possible: XLB, the giant crab and Kurobuta pork soup dumpling, crispy pork with shrimp and chicken potstickers, beef rolls, scallion pancake, spicy wontons, shrimp and chive dumplings, sautéed string beans, jellyfish and cabbage, beef short rib noodle soup, and the pork and pickled vegetable noodle soup. Despite the restaurant filling up quickly, the food came out surprisingly fast. Every dish was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The soup dumplings were packed with flavorful broth, the spicy wontons had just the right amount of heat, the beef rolls were savory and satisfying, and the noodle soups were rich and comforting. Even the vegetable dishes were well-executed and complemented the meal perfectly. By the end, we were completely stuffed but couldn't stop talking about how good everything was. Everyone from the grandparents to the kids found something they enjoyed, making it the perfect spot for a family gathering. The food quality, efficient service, and overall dining experience made for a wonderful Father's Day celebration. We'll definitely be back again to try even more items from the menu!

Next XLB spot in the 626/sgv. Right next to the sprouts in Alhambra. They start you off with complimentary appetizers- peanuts, seaweed salad and black fungus. You can order using QR code which is very helpful. Stand out to me was definitely the beef noodle. Perfect flavor and huge portion. Super cute bao decorations all over!

My aunt and my lil sis wanted a place to have lunch and we decided to come to Bao Monster. We went on Wednesday, at opening and there was no way at all. They had a very nice open decor and there were plenty of seats. We were able to order a food in the app and the food came out pretty quickly. We ordered these five dishes. 1. Garlic Sauted String Beans 2. Crispy Beef Pancake Roll 3. Panfried Kurobuta Pork Buns 5 Pcs 4. Kurobuta Pork Soup Dumpling 5. Spicy Shrimp Kurobuta Pork Wontons Everything was really good. I love the flavor and how thin the skin was for the soup dumplings. I also love their green beans, but my favorites were the crispy beef pancake and the Panfried Kurobuta Pork Buns. There was plenty of beef in the beef roll, and the Pan fried pork funds were very juicy and flavorful. They also had free green bean dessert. The total came out to be around $66 before tip, which is pretty reasonable. I will definitely be back to try other items. Definitely put them on your bookmark to try!

The beef noodle soup was the highlight of the meal. The broth was incredibly flavorful, and the noodles tasted fresh with the perfect amount of chew. The pickled vegetables in the soup were balanced just right and brought back a lot of nostalgia for my family and me. The dumplings were also very good, especially the xiao long bao. They were juicy and well-made. The filling was slightly sweeter than I personally prefer for savory dishes, but my family really enjoyed them overall. One unique touch was the porridge that's offered - self serve buffet style. On the day we visited, it was complimentary, though I understand it's available for a small charge (around $4 per person) on other days. My mom absolutely loved it--it felt like a comforting reminder of home. The service was good and about what you'd expect from a Chinese restaurant. The restaurant was relatively quiet when we visited, but there was still a bit of a wait when ordering and paying the check. Since it's a new restaurant, I imagine they're still working through some of the usual growing pains. Restaurant is spacious and clean, comfortable environment. Overall, I would happily bring my parents back, especially for the beef noodle soup. Parking is very convenient, with a parking structure located directly behind the restaurant in the same building.

OOF!!! Well as you can see, my opinion differs greatly with most Yelpers. Maybe lunch today was just an anomaly, but the food was truly terrible. Located just East of the Main Street restaurant strip in Alhambra on a side street is this new Chinese restaurant. The design inside is comfy and hip, the service is friendly and attentive, and there is free parking in back. That's all great, but when the food is this bad and gets me this sick, I seriously have a problem with the place. So, started with the free snacks they give each table - I focused on the fresh peanuts. Son tried the free congee, which was sweet, just fyi. He's only had savory congee before, so he was a little taken aback. Then came the two appetizers - scallion pancakes and fried pork buns. The scallion pancakes were woefully undercooked and still tasted mainly like raw flour. I don't think this was a mistake in their eyes, as if you look at other pics of the pancakes from other yelpers, they are just as colorless and apparently underdone. The fried pork buns had a giant burst of soup inside and were mercifully mouth sized (some places make them bigger than a mouth can handle), but the taste was sorely lacking. They just weren't great, and I might have to say that while not horrible, they were probably the least enjoyable fried buns I've ever had. Then came the spicy beef noodle soup. Ordered with no veggies and meat that hopefully wasn't tendons (like most places in the SGV), the gigantic bowl (yes, it's an enormous bowl - enough for three to share) came still packed with vegetables but at least the meat was tender, lean, and not tendons. It was okay, but it was no Mr. Dragon (the best place to find this dish in the SGV). It was probably the most successful of the dishes without being great or anything we'd return for. Finally, the kung pao chicken came out and this was a living nightmare. Looked good, until you ate a piece. The sauce flavor was very sweet and odd, but the real problem was the chicken itself - the texture of the meat was exactly like a raw carrot. It was crunchy, and my appetite vanished immediately due to this texture along with the somewhat rotten meat taste in my mouth. I had to spit out the two pieces I tried and had the dish returned and taken off the bill. I'm sure any replacement would be just as awful. I don't know what was wrong with the chicken, but if I was to take a random uneducated guess, I would assume this was repeatedly frozen chicken that had gone bad awhile ago and was no longer able to thaw out properly. I'm glad others enjoy it. The place had plenty of diners for lunch when I went on a Friday at opening. So, keep in mind that others DO like it. I do not. I can neither recommend the place, nor will I be going back ever again. Sorry. Just not a fan.

Our visit to this restaurant was very pleasant. We came in celebration of a birthday. We ordered a lot of food. One of the things that I like the most was the fried rice and the chicken cutlet. The chicken cutlet was fried to perfection and was so tender. It was not dry at all. The fried rice complemented the chicken very nicely. Our group ordered the very large singular crab filled dumpling. The darn thing was $30 and extremely difficult to eat. Even worse, it was almost impossible to share. You have to use certain special utensils to eat the dumpling. For example, it comes with an interesting straw to drink the broth out of, but also an interesting pair of desserts that are tinier than nail scissors. I'm sure that's what you're supposed to use to cut this thing up. Overall, it was not worth the $30 price tag for one singular dumpling. Their beans were tasty. Their juicy pork dumplings were good. I want to say that everything was pretty usual. Nothing was over the top fantastic. The thing that was over the top was their prices. For a party of four adults and two children, at $200 tab was quite steep. Service was good. They were very friendly and helpful. Parking is available in the garage. There's no need for validation.

The pork chop is terrible. I've never eaten any pork chop as bad as this one in my entire life. It's dry like eating cardboard. I've waited over 30 mins for this pork chop, and it's not even hot. The bak choy is extremely oily and is cut into small pieces, so it's so hard to pick them up. Why? Why cut the bak choy?!?!? The ice grape green tea is not cold. It's so bad. The potstickers with shrimp are so-so, and the wait for the dish was at least 30 mins. Too long. The scallion pancakes are so hard and lack flavor. The fried rice cake is really so-so. The Big Mac crab meat and pork dumpling is not bad but not that good. The pan-fried pork buns are good with lots of soup inside and crispy outside. The pork soup dumplings taste good. The servers are polite, but when I told one of them about the pork chop, she didn't try to change it nor to cancel the item. That's bad, but it's okay because I have no plan for visiting this restaurant again. read more

I would give this place a 3.5-4/5. Very clean & modern. Service was good, you scan a QR code , order and then they bring you the food. That makes it easy and less room for error, however there is little interaction with the servers. I wish they had the chicken xiao long bao, I didn't see it when I scanned the QR code but I did see it on there printed menu so not sure. Also when ordering the noodles there's no option to add protein or choose , when the noodles came I had to ask what meat was in there. It was pork, I don't eat pork but my husband does so it worked out. Greens beans & potstickers very good. Shrimp xiao long bao was new to me , never tried tbh is before, it was very good. read more

Very nice service and the food was so good!!! Thanks for existing! Love the xiao long bao, can't go wrong with them. The indoors and bathroom were clean. The milk tea wasn't cafe quality but more like home made quality (which is healthier!) and adds to the charm, but when you see milk tea on the menu, don't get too excited since it won't be like boba time. To eat the Big Mac Bao, they give you a straw to drink the soup! A unique way of drinking soup! It was a fun experience. (Make sure to wait though because it's hot.) read more

Didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised. The xiao long bao were juicy with thin skin that didn't break, clean flavor and not greasy. The pan fried buns were the highlight, crispy bottom, fluffy top, very flavorful with a slight sweetness and the cilantro adds a lot. The noodles were a bit oily but still tasty, more like a side. The tangyuan were light and not too sweet, a nice finish. Overall I'd come back for the buns for sure. read more

I am very shocked, I would totally bring my best friend here. The best nap place I ever tried. I love fish slices with pickles greens in gold broth, I would re-order this one. It well balanced to sweet and sour fish smooth, easy, easy to swallow. That favorite sparks to my mouth. I am not big fan of crab scallops noodle, they somehow burn the scallops which makes it bitter. Over all, my family loves it. The cucumber salad was mediocre because not much a flavor not marinated overnight. It's a very slow taste, which I think it's well balanced in throw away when it comes to heavy food. I love the green scallion pancake. So I think it's worth the price somewhat but I wish it's more scallion flavor. I mean it's preference.~ The services here is nice, I think they are shock how much I order and compliments me how to order so much good food. read more

Bao Master has quickly become one of my favorite comfort food spots in Alhambra. The soup dumplings are amazing each one is packed with rich, flavorful broth, and every bite is bursting with juice. Definitely order them while they're hot! I also highly recommend the beef noodle soup. The noodles taste freshly made, with the perfect chewy texture, and they soak up all the delicious flavor from the broth. It's one of those bowls that leaves you wanting to finish every last drop. The pan-fried buns are another must-order. Crispy on the bottom, soft on top, and filled with juicy, savory goodness. One thing that really sets Bao Master apart is the complimentary congee. They offer three different options, and the purple rice congee is my favorite, warm, comforting, and the perfect addition to the meal. Great food, generous portions, and excellent value. If you're craving soup dumplings or noodles in the San Gabriel Valley, Bao Master is absolutely worth a visit! read more

I don't understand previous reviews. This place was about as mid as possible, if not less so. I would call this the Dennys of Chinese food. Green onion pancakes were dry and flavorless. Egg rolls tasted like they had been fried in a bad, or extremely cheap oil. Beef noodle soup was boring, not spicy, and had meat that lacked any tenderness. Waste of my pleasure in eating. read more

Nestled in with the new apartment complexes of Main Street, Alhambra is a little spot called Bao Master. A friend took me out since we've never been to this restaurant. I would give it a solid 7 out of 10. Service was good. The food was definitely above average. I might be a bit biased, but in my mind, I kept thinking and comparing this spot to Good Alley. Yes, it's an unfair battle. Such a comparison should not have been done. Overall, I enjoyed my hang out. The food was secondary. read more

My meal at Bao Master was a giant mess today. When I first came in I was impressed by how modern the space was and how friendly the waitresses were, but shortly after we ordered was when things went downhill. We ordered three dishes: rice cakes with pork & spinach, xiao long Bao, and pan fried dumplings... however only one of those dishes came out correctly. The xiao long Bao came out first, and then the rice cakes, however upon arrival I immediately noticed that our rice cakes didn't have any pork in it like stated in the menu.. so we asked a waitress and she took our dish away and said they would remake it. After this, our pan fried dumplings showed up except we were only given 4 dumplings instead of 5. I notified the waitress again and she took our dish away and said they would remake that too. (Note: this was be the last time I ever saw those dumplings, because I never got them back - not sure why she couldn't leave the 4 dumplings with us and just bring the extra missing one to us after). At this point we are sitting at our table with nothing to eat since more than half our dishes were messed up. We continue to wait as we see the waiter bring the dishes we were supposed to receive to the tables next to us - only for those patrons to tell them that the didn't order those items. After a certain point we decided to speak up for ourselves and said, "I think those rice cakes are ours" when they handed it to the next table by accident. Not sure why everything was so jumbled up on their end. As for the pan fried dumplings, they never arrived again.. we waited so long that I just asked to cancel them... so as of right now I still don't know what they taste like. And when we paid, they tried to charge me for them, and didn't remove them from the bill until I reminded them... another frustrating point to note. While what we did get to eat was pretty good, I was really disappointed by our lunch today because it was a huge disaster trying to get our food. Also, their items are a little on the pricier side relative to other local places so I would expect an overall better experience. Wouldn't go back for a while until they get their act together... and honestly have told my friends that I think it's best that they wait a little too. I might give them another shot once they can figure out how to make their food and serve guests properly. read more

Whenever I try restaurants that were advertised and seen on tiktok, I always leave out with disappointment. Service was good, but food was really lacking in terms of authenticity. Our family knows a bit of Shanghainese dishes so we opted to choose those on our first visit and to our surprise none of the items tasted good. All of them were overly too salty. The saltiness overpowered the umami flavor. The shanghai mini wontons were luckwarm and we had to ask to he reheated. Overall, like the other reviews said, you need to flag down a server if you ordered any rice and the noodles especially were too hard. Not that good and it wasn't cheap for the quality of food. Unfortunately xiao long bao wasn't even on par with any of the well known named restaurants. I don't think this place will economically last long. read more

This restaurant's food was amazing. The taste was so rich in flavor! Every dish I ordered was all good and worth trying again. My favorite thing I ordered was the Big Mac Crab Meat & Kurobuta Pork Soup Dumpling. I absolutely loved cutting the skin and revealing the delicious soup inside. They also provided a straw for you to drink up the soup! All the waitresses were kind and helpful when I was there. Definitely would come back again!! read more

Excellent Shanghainese style food. A definite repeat for me. I ordered the following: 1. Beef noodle soup - 8/10 2. Xiao long bao- 10/10 (they are different from din tai fung, but the skin is quite good 3. Chive and pork dumpling - 10/10 4. Tofu salad- 5/10 (probably the only item that's not a repeat for me) 5. Green onion pancake - 6.5/10 (crispy but not enough green onions) 6. First time trying bao master we ordered beef roll, pork xiao long bao, scallion oil noodles, pork potstickers, shrimp and pork spicy wontons, and hot and sour soup. Everything was fresh and came out quickly! Favorites were the scallion oil noodles and beef roll! Just wish the portions were a little bigger. They have a congee bar that's free on weekdays (?) that had millet congee and 2 red bean desserts. read more

Worthy of a try. Their food is good, ambiance is light and bright, which I like. Service is minimal at first because you order with QR code using your phone and the cell signal in the restuarant is really bad. They have wifi, but I don't like to sign on to open wifi, so that is a big downside here. Food is good and high quality and everything that we order were yummy. read more

I would say most food is good Chinese food but they are not omg awesome. Dumplings are good, Chinese burger, too. Mr dragon's rice cake is better ,and there is better beef noodles somewhere else. Interior is nice and I waited about 15 mins when I arrive at 7pm on a Saturday night, not so bad. Overall it's decent but not awesome. read more

Here's a polished Yelp-style review you can post as-is or tweak: We visited this restaurant for the first time and tried the Big Mac soup dumplings, spicy shrimp and pork wontons, and Shanghai dumplings. Overall, everything was delicious except for the Big Mac dumpling. While it was flavorful, it lacked filling, which was a bit disappointing--I'm not sure if that was intentional, but I'd skip it and stick with their regular soup dumplings next time. The filling in the spicy wontons was excellent, and the tea drinks were tasty and refreshing. Service was also outstanding, which really elevated the experience. Tried a new spot and it didn't disappoint! The food is delicious with great taste. Not overly salty or oily. Recommend the shrimp cucumber Shao long bao and pickled fish. The pan fried dumplings were ok because the skin texture was too mushy and over cooked. Tried both version of pork and pork with shrimp. Service is good . Very clean, bright and decor was not bad. First the positive... Beautiful dining room. The cute little bao themselves is prevalent throughout the establishment. From the decor to the walls it says high-quality. 5-stars! Service was good. It was not bad nor lacking. They started off speaking to me in mandarin which caught me off guard, but was nice. 3-stars Now for the main topic... the food was average. It was okay but not stand out great. We had a few standard dumplings (XLB, friend, veggie, etc) and the beef noodle soup to see how they compare to other dumpling locations. 3-stars A con for me was the pricing seemed high for the amount of food they served. Hidden gem around the area. The jumbo XLB and the kurobuta XLB were pretty decent. Both the onion scallion mixed noodle and the plain noodle were kinda clumped together. The Chinese hamburger was not bad. The crust was pretty flaky and the beef filling was decently made. Price was economical overall. Worth a return. read more

They were soft and just like the buns, they had the right amount of soup + meat which made for a delicious bite every time. My toddler even ate some and she's usually super picky about meat. We were asked to pay the dinner price, The waiter just said his manager told him to tell everyone that, but the menu doesn't state the price between 3:00-4:00pm. The online menu also needs to be updated. As for the food, the hot food selection has gone downhill. Not as much variety as before. Mostly fried foods, not as much greens as before. The dessert selection was only oranges and a jello dessert. The meat was sliced super thin, so it wasn't chewy. I would say the service was just ok. One waiter was catering to us, but he was also busy doing other things in the kitchen. Would I come back here again, probably not. I just feel like everything should be transparent, so the trust is there.

I can't believe LA has such a complete bun shop -- this makes me so happy! Today I'm taking you to a super fun bao shop in Alhambra. As soon as you walk in, the space feels clean and bright, with a cozy casual dining vibe. What made me really happy is that although it's a bun shop, the menu is surprisingly extensive -- so many of my favorite dishes can be ordered all at once. This time we ordered quite a few of their signature items. The crab roe black pork soup dumplings and black pork soup dumplings have very thin wrappers and are packed with broth. Once you gently bite into them, the soup flows out, and the crab roe flavor is very noticeable. Another fun dish is the giant crab roe black pork soup dumpling -- it's huge! I recommend using a straw to drink the broth first, then slowly eating the dumpling. For carbs, I really loved the crab roe scallion oil noodles. The scallion oil aroma is strong, and the crab roe adds another layer of flavor. The noodles are perfectly chewy. We also tried the wagyu pan-fried buns, which have a golden crispy bottom. One bite and the juicy filling comes out -- super satisfying! And there's the black pork roujiamo, basically our Chinese-style burger haha. The bread is crispy outside, and the meat filling is very flavorful. The best part is that you can enjoy their signature milk tea while eating buns. Don't question it -- it actually pairs surprisingly well, haha. Last but not least, we finished with a bowl of osmanthus fermented rice tangyuan. It's sweet and warm, the perfect ending to the meal. First impression: the environment is so clean, bright, and modern--definitely not your average cramped, greasy noodle shop. Pro-tip: We purposely skipped the peak dinner rush and arrived a bit later past 7 PM. Best decision ever. No lines, no waiting, just walked right in and got seated immediately.
