dan dan noodles (spicy)
Deedee C.

I was so excited to see another Bao place open up! We ordered takeout and everything arrived warm and delicious. I really liked their beef, curry bun and green beans and cucumbers. Some other local restaurants do the cucumbers, but they're way too saucy. These were perfect. The garlic green beans were tender and crisp with a light garlic flavor. The cucumbers were crisp and dressed in a light tangy dressing. The dan noodles didn't have sauce, really just flavored meat but had a nice kick to them. My son loved the.Tsao spicy chicken. We also ordered the.Xiao long bao dumplings they didn't send sauce with them, so I made my own with vinegar, soy sauce and ginger.

Beef wrap

We were very impressed with our lunch at Bao Family. We had the stir-fried Rice cakes with Beef and it was phenomenal. I have not seen this dish in other restaurants in the area and it really is a treat. We also ordered the Beef wrap and it was perfectly cooked and delicious.

Dumplings are of course the best part (the saucy dishes are flavorful and good, but the dumplings really shine). Lots of seating available and fast service. Prices seem reasonable relative to quality.

Came in mid-afternoon on the weekend and the place was busy. We were seated immediately and received our food ~10 mins after ordering. We ordered the spicy and sour beef noodle soup, veggie dumplings, and scallion pancakes. There is an option to adjust the spice and numbing levels to your dishes. The food came out steaming. The veggie dumplings were flavorful and the wrapping was just thick enough to make 10-dumplings a hearty meal. The taste profile is similar to what you'd find in Northern China, and there is chili oil/vinegar/soy sauce at the table for you to make your own sauce. Scallion pancakes were deep-fried and on the thin side. They were more oily than the homemade ones I'm used to, but the crunch and flavor on them were nice. The sour and spicy beef noodle soup (opted spicy and numbing) was yummy. You can tell the noodles were handmade and they had a good bite to them. The beef was tender, the bok choy was a nice refreshing balance to the bold flavors of the dish, and the tea egg was a nice addition. The soup was quite sodium-heavy and oily, but the flavor was quite authentic and still yummy with the numbing spice kicking in towards the end. The interior is clean and has a viewing window at the front where you can see dumplings being made in real time.

Found this place mid-road trip when it was getting late and we needed comfort food fast. Being open…read morelate is a huge plus -- there just aren't many good options at that hour. The menu threw us a little at first, but the staff more than made up for it. They walked us through the options, suggested dishes, and helped us figure out the right portions for our group instead of just letting us over-order. That kind of attentiveness at midnight says a lot. The space is small and clean with a handful of indoor seats -- not somewhere you'd linger, but exactly what we needed. And the food was genuinely good, especially considering we were ordering from a limited late-night selection. If you're passing through and hungry after hours, this is a solid stop.

Not sure what to expect and with zero people in the restaurant, we trusted the Yelp reviews and proceeded to order a takeout meal. I'll just say that the food has a depth and complexity not found in most American Chinese restaurants (Jade Dumpling excepted). The dishes are still American style (to my uninformed mind), but ELEVATED, as they like to say on TV cooking competitions. Prices are reasonable if not very fair. I don't think anyone could be disappointed. Give them a go.

There some traditional organ dishes that are hard to find outside larger Asian communities. The lamb hot pot is especially delicious and brings serious spice. The space is a former fast-food restaurant, so it's plain but perfectly functional. The food is the reason to come and it delivers every time. The woman at the counter is always friendly and welcoming. There's a steady stream of takeout orders but the lunch specials are a great value and worth dining in for, especially since the included soup is dine-in only. If you're in South Eugene and craving flavorful Chinese comfort food, I highly recommend it. (I don't rate delivered food since the restaurant can't control what happens after it leaves the kitchen. For the best experiences, dine in or pick it up yourself.)

And when many places (especially in Eugene, Chinese, it seems like) are closed Mondays this one is open and close Tuesday instead. Not a bad choice for Chinese American food.
