This review is long overdue!…read more Eric was a joy to work with. He was prompt with communication, and provided perfect recommendations for my private, birthday party dinner. His menu selections were top notch, and my husband and I were thrilled with the outcome. We did 3 appetizers before the 4 course meal began. We did the elote (street corn) appetizer, tuna tartare, and lamb chop. Of note, I don't eat lamb at all, but Eric's Lamb chop was AN AMAZING FLAVOR BOMB! I appreciated that him and his server showed up prepared with all of their supplies (and small plates for serving). For dinner, we had the heirloom tomato and burrata salad, followed by the char grilled octopus, then the Australian Wagyu steak with creme brûlée to finish. The menu was superb, Eric presented his gorgeous plates with detail and attention, and (of course) they cleaned up everything after! He worked with me on a menu and he delivered my vision. Even with extreme circumstances (another vendor broke our garage door 24 hours before the event) Chef Peter and his crew took it in stride. They were on time and hauled their heavy equipment in and got straight to work. He was basically cooking/grilling on one side of our building (back patio), having to run back forth to the interior kitchen and sink. He and his crew worked SO hard that night. The predicament involved having the joy sucked out of food due to a VERY restricted diet. What does 2 informal foodies do with a new lifestyle that consists of staying under 15 grams of saturated fat per day, under 1500 mg of salt per day (that's under 1 tsp), kicking out cholesterol-high foods like shrimp and red meat and other general un-fun new rules? We looked for help! We ate pretty healthy to begin with...but with so many new rules, we went looking for culinary expertise. I tried meal services but was amazed at how limited those are to diets like Keto that are the exact opposite of what the Cardiologist was telling us to do. Enter in Whole Health Everyday which I found right here on Yelp. Chef Rebecca Club, the owner, spent time with me on the phone and in a short period of time, was able to assess exactly what I needed. She matched us with Chef Robert, a culinary genius that literally brought sunlight back to our dreary diet. On Thursdays, Chef Robert would cook for us for the week, in our kitchen, wearing a mask because of our immunocompromised situation (check with Chef Rebecca if you have this issue b/c not all Chefs will do this) for the whole week. He would make family meals in my own large casserole tupperwares that we could then assemble for breakfast/lunch/dinner. I need a whole paragraph to describe Chef Robert's special dishes. He makes a tray of ground turkey and black bean enchiladas in a verde sauce that will make you cry! He makes egg white bites that are better anything I've ever had before and these are NOT made with heavy cream! I could literally go on and on but maybe I'll just leave you with some of my fave dishes... *Ginger chicken breast bahn mi with jalepenos, picked daikon and carrots *Tilapia tacos with cabbage, pico de gallo, and yogurt crema *Japanese chicken meat balls with sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts *Tuna Poke with mango and avocado served with cucumber slices and low fat/salt chips *Chili con turkey, kidney beans, peppers, avocado and cheese I can only imagine what Chef Robert could do if he could cook with as much salt and fat as he liked! The process for our weekly sessions looked like this: 1) Chef Robert would email us over the weekend with meal suggestions 2) We choose what we want, or ask for more suggestions until we finalize the meals for that week 3) He sends us a shopping list by Tuesday night 4) We order grocery pickup for the things on the list and have everything in our fridge by Thursday morning 5) Chef Robert comes Thursday morning, cooks like crazy (sometimes using the grill outside, our Vitamix etc) 6) Chef Robert shows us where everything is, what sauce goes with what, how to assemble a sushi handroll (yes he would make us sodium light sushi and taught us how to roll it) etc. 7) Chef Robert would clean the kitchen so it looked perfect before he left 8) I would receive an invoice from Whole Health Everyday for that session, it would hit my credit card and I would repeat the next week I really cannot recommend Whole Health Everyday enough. After reaching out through his website, he sent us a message to schedule an introductory phone call. He shared his professional background and then went through a detailed discussion reviewing our vision for the night, including timing of the event, likes/dislikes, options for specialty/seasonal ingredients, etc. After the phone call, he followed up with a proposed menu for a 5-course omakase meal, accounting for our preferences, which was spot on. We paid a deposit to secure the date. He checked in a few days before the event and day-of kept a good line of communication with us, providing ETA. He was quick to set up in our kitchen and then the magic started. He brought his own table lights, dishware, utensils, cooking supplies/pans, etc. He offers tablecloths as well. When dinner was ready, he announced each course, sharing how the dish was prepared. The food was awesome. Just simply awesome. Pictures won't do justice, especially since I forgot to take some as I was enjoying the food too much. He buys the fish fresh that morning and you can appreciate the quality of it. And by the way, he prepped separate meals for our young children :) Afterwards, he took care of all the cleaning, cleared the tables, packed his supplies and graciously bowed out for the night. We're so glad we found him for our special night!

He was entertaining while he cooked and his brown butter Cajun sauce that went with our surf and turf was out of this world good. Delivery: I let Pedro know that our house was ready and available for delivery whenever he wanted. It was Super Bowl weekend so I know lots of rentals needed to be dropped off. He brought the tent and chairs Thursday and the jumper and tables early Saturday. Everything was a big hit with our guest the entire weekend ! I highly recommend this company and will be definitely using them again !

The owner just opened up the pop up shop. It's a whole in the wall place and is a hidden gem (literally hidden), this place you wouldn't know it's back there, there's other pop up restaurant shop that the food looks good as well and worth a try. It's located in the Saigon Market on the second floor all the way in the back. The ordering style is a bit confusing/interesting but its where you order and pay at the second restaurant counter (this is where they have the menu for all the pop up shop in the food court) and you receive a ticket from them. With that ticket you take it to the counter of the pop up shop to receive your food. This pop up counter only sells banh xeo (one type with shrimp and meat but you can ask not to have meat if you're a vegetarian) but has more items available for catering service. He does marinated meat on top of making banh xeo. The banh xeo was amazing! I like how the batter mix has onion and mushroom in it (I've never had it like this and definitely a nice surprise) and it's not on the heavy side like other places I've been to and its crispy as well. On the inside this place doesn't skimp out on the meat and shrimp and filled with goodies like most places as well. There isn't many places around that sells specifically banh xeo, this is definitely a good go to place if you want some banh xeo. You won't be disappointed. read more

But while scrolling on food delivery apps, I discovered that Furiwa had rebranded as a catering and takeout business. I didn't care how much the prices were. No dim sum restaurant in Orange County, dare I say even the greater LA area, especially any rhyming with schmea-schmood-schmove schmumber-schmwo, ever compared to Furiwa for me. No kung pao chicken or turnip cake has ever tasted the same.The turnip cake is soft and perfectly gooey, with the occasional light crunch of a turnip. The crust is slightly crispy and topped with a warm egg, sprinkled with scallions. Taking that first bite again was years in the making. Despite being delivered, the food is still fresh and delicious. The shumai is perfect. The rice rolls are soft with the most satisfying texture. Of course, nothing beats eating it fresh in a restaurant, but I'm glad I found a new outlet to enjoy Furiwa's recipes. I hope that they will re-open their restaurant again. But until then, I will continue to order takeout from Furiwa To-Go.

Their tasting events also are very helpful in choosing the menu for your event. At first we originally had a menu selected, but after attending the tasting event and trying various items, we ended up changing our menu. If you have the privilege to work with Jay's you should choose them! Jay's catering also caters food at a cafe at my work and all my coworkers love their food. Just another verification that Jay's has awesome food.

Chef flexed with timing and making a wonderful paella that everyone at the party enjoyed. Made it extra special, as you will see in the picture.
