When I was a little boy, my dad would take me and my sister to the Furiwa restaurant in Garden Grove on Brookhurst almost every weekend for dim sum. We went so often that the dim sum aunties already knew what we wanted. Instead of taking our order, they would ask about our family while they placed our usuals on the table. My absolute favorite thing to get was the turnip cake with egg. My dad would always order it, and as a picky 5 year old, I didn't want to eat it. Turnips? Yuck! But he would always order it, and every time, the dim sum aunties would bring out a hot steaming plate for him. It would always smell so good, and the hot steam looked so enticing. Eventually, curiosity got the better of me, and I had a nibble. And another. And another. And soon, I was eating half the plate! You could imagine how sad I was to hear that Furiwa closed. But while scrolling on food delivery apps, I discovered that Furiwa had rebranded as a catering and takeout business. I didn't care how much the prices were. No dim sum restaurant in Orange County, dare I say even the greater LA area, especially any rhyming with schmea-schmood-schmove schmumber-schmwo, ever compared to Furiwa for me. No kung pao chicken or turnip cake has ever tasted the same.The turnip cake is soft and perfectly gooey, with the occasional light crunch of a turnip. The crust is slightly crispy and topped with a warm egg, sprinkled with scallions. Taking that first bite again was years in the making. Despite being delivered, the food is still fresh and delicious. The shumai is perfect. The rice rolls are soft with the most satisfying texture. Of course, nothing beats eating it fresh in a restaurant, but I'm glad I found a new outlet to enjoy Furiwa's recipes. I hope that they will re-open their restaurant again. But until then, I will continue to order takeout from Furiwa To-Go. read more

We had the pleasure of having Furiwa as our caterer for our wedding. Food was one of the things we wanted to lock in first as it was important for us to have our guests fed, and fed well at that! The challenge we had was that we wanted to bring Asian cuisine to a non-Asian venue. We didn't want to book the typical Chinese / Vietnamese banquet restaurant for our wedding reception. We ended up selecting NOOR as our venue and they actually referred me to Furiwa when I asked them if they've ever had Asian caterers. I took one look at what they had to offer and I was almost sold. What eventually locked my wife and I in was the communication we were getting from Victoria. She was very responsive and helpful no matter how many questions we threw at her. This review is in regard to their food and their service for a wedding. They are without a doubt the best when it comes to Chinese/Vietnamese wedding food. The food tastes great without being greasy. All of our guests raved about the honey walnut shrimp, house special lobster with garlic noodle, and the French style beef tenderloin with Gai Lan. In regard to their service they are very responsive when you email them and will work with you to deliver your vision for your guests. We catered Furiwa for our wedding back in Nov 2022 for 300 guests. They are one of the top asian (chinese/vietnamese) catering company in Orange County and know what they are doing and got it Down! When i emailed Furiwa to learn some more information about them, Victoria responded to me and she was our go to since then til the wedding day. Right off the bat, Furiwa is not like the other vendors who reply DAYS later. Victoria replied back sometimes within minutes if not next day at the latest. Their communication was TOP NOTCH. Not only was V helpful with the catering aspects but other little details on the wedding planning, she is very knowledgeable as well. They host tasting parties for prospective couples who booked with them so you can try out the menu. They take notes of what you liked/dislike about it and cater to your taste on the actual day of the wedding which i appreciated. Our guests told us they enjoyed the food and we also thought it was tasty and the portion was great!!! Enough to go around and then some! Food was a priority for my husband and I when planning for our wedding - we couldn't even start looking at venues until we knew who we would be booking for catering since it could affect where we'd be able to book the wedding. We knew we wanted to have the traditional 8 course meal of Chinese-Vietnamese dishes for our 200+ guests without having our wedding at a banquet hall. We had heard of Furiwa from our friends who had booked them for their wedding and so looked into them as well. We loved the dish options that they offered. Also, Vivian was so great to work with during the planning process; very friendly, professional, and responsive to emails! The tasting event that they hosted helped us to really fine tune our menu. They also allowed our planner to come with us to the tasting to help us out, which was a bonus! The hors d'oeuvres, the courses, the late night congee bar on the day of our wedding were so so good and everything we could have wished for. Our parents loved the food as well, even had some of the leftovers the next day and still thought it was delicious. Ordered a to go order: peking duck, football, sesame ball, and egg yolk bun. The peking duck was unbelievably amazing. The skin was so crispy and just melts in your mouth. The football and sesame balls were also scrumptious. The glutinous part was perfectly done. Not too chewy and not too thin if that makes sense. The only disappointment was the egg yolk bun. Usually, when I order egg yolk bun from any Chinese restaurant, it's the salted egg yolk bun with a gooey inside. This one was basically a custard bun. 5 stars all around, a truly excellent establishment. Service is wonderful. Food is exceptional. Hubs and I were starving and craving shu mai and XLB. Furiwa is a 2 minute drive from our house. The last time we ate their food was at my best friend's wedding to Long N (below) in 2018 at the restaurant, prior to the transition to catering. I called and spoke to Vivian, she was so sweet and helpful, directing me to order online and prepay at the website. We got there, masks on, and the pick up experience was exceptionally safe. Since this pandemic is impacting us all, safety is paramount. All the food was packaged separately and Vivian was masked up and gloved up and came and greeted us and put our food in the car. We were lucky enough to get home within two minutes again and everything was still piping hot, fresh off the stove. We ordered garlic noodles, orange chicken, fried shu mai, XLB, and sesame balls. All the food was was tender and flavorful and we do not have any leftovers. The garlic noodles were my favorite, they were cooked to perfection and delicately seasoned. Husband can't decide whether he liked the XLB or the shu mai more. The orange chicken is among the best I've ever tasted, not too mild, not too sweet, not too hot, and perfectly proportioned. And for dessert, the sesame balls were delicious. It's been ages since I've had them. They were hot and crispy filled with sweet red bean. We've always gotten Peking duck from here for our gatherings. It's not the best Peking duck out there but is decent enough with the food presented on a big aluminum plate which makes it more presentable than the usual to-go pan that other places have so you don't have to transfer your food to a nicer pan for more formal events. The online ordering makes it very convenient to place an order in advance. We tried the fish maw soup with crab meat last time and it was the worst I've ever had. The broth was dark and cloudy with a strong overwhelming taste of soy sauce which it shouldn't be since this soup should be light in flavor without any soy sauce involved. Food brought us together, so for our wedding, there was one thing that we knew that we would prioritize over all else - the food! We researched venues, asking about the option for a Chinese banquet, and were referred to Furiwa by one of the hotels that we looked into. We found out that if we wanted to have a Chinese banquet at a hotel venue for our wedding, we would have to go through Furiwa. Our parents had very specific dishes in mind based on traditions so we had to entirely customize the menu. Luckily, our Furiwa contact was Vivian who was super fun, friendly, responsive, and professional. She worked with us to accommodate our parents' "special" requests. Once we finalized the menu, we scheduled a tasting with Furiwa. Vivian sat us at an intimate table where we were served the sweetheart portions of our customized menu and checked with us on how we felt about every dish. The only thing that we weren't able to try was the roasted pig, which had to be ordered way in advance. The food was easily on par with or maybe even a step up from a nice seafood restaurant where you could get a Chinese banquet. The costs were reasonable and well worth the value for the experience of having banquet food outside of a Chinese restaurant setting. After that tasting, we knew that no matter which venue we chose, we wanted to pick a hotel that partnered with Furiwa. We picked the Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort, where Vivian actually met up with us and the hotel staff to discuss the wedding. In fact, Vivian pretty much held our hand throughout the entire planning process. She felt like our wedding planner in that she helped us make decisions and recommended questions to ask the other vendors. We signed the contract, and everything seemed set until about a month later when COVID-19 hit. We decided to postpone the wedding for another year. Furiwa was flexible on rescheduling and gave us options to address safety concerns including individual plates, smaller tables, and outside dining. Due to COVID, we had less guests in attendance than anticipated. So, in the weeks before our wedding, Vivian contacted and met with us several times to discuss additional options to shift expenses to since we could not adjust the contract on such late notice. They let us adjust our open bar minimum and add appetizers, a roasted pig carving station, specialty cocktails, a tea station, a dessert bar, and an ice cream parlor instead. We received nothing but good feedback on the quality of the food. Our guests, like us, were all used to eating good food so they had a lot of high expectations. Furiwa was able to impress all of them on both flavor and quantity! Everybody raved about the pan fried scallop with spinach and steamed whole fish, but all of the dishes were home runs. Nobody left hungry at our wedding! The only complaint that we did receive from our guests was how quickly the food was taken away and how the leftovers were not packed, but we believe that was done by the venue due to health reasons and not the fault of the Furiwa staff. Food was the number one most important concern for our wedding. The good communication we had with Vivian was key to everything running so smoothly. When my husband and I started planning our wedding, there were 2 things we prioritized - food and open bar. We knew we wanted to serve Asian food, so we did our research. We did a tasting with Furiwa and another well-known Chinese/Vietnamese food caterer in the area. Hands down, my husband and I both loved Furiwa's food, service, and overall experience better. We felt the food from the competitor was not as good and the owner was a bit pushy/overwhelming. From the start, Vivian was super sweet and easy to work with. She provided the various menus, which have per table costs, and it was nice because menus are customizable so we were able to remove the courses we didn't like, and add the ones we do. The tasting a great experience - they set up an intimate table for you, make you a nice serving of each dish, and packed up all the leftovers for us. We booked them that day. A few months later, the pandemic hit. Furiwa was flexible and let us move our date without any issues. They did inform us that due to the cost of rising food prices, they would need to increase our cost a bit as well, but given the circumstances, we felt this was fair. The overall price per person was still less than if we had served American food through the venue. We had no issues with Furiwa during our looooong wedding planning process. They were familiar with our venue, and accommodated all our requests to the best of their ability. We received so many compliments on the food. So many guests told us they were happy they didn't leave a wedding hungry for once. When we sat down, I shoveled so much food into my mouth - I looked like a chipmunk in several of my photos. No shame. I was so happy with the tender cubes of shaken beef, the crispy honey walnut prawns, savory house special lobster, and perfectly steamed fish. I don't know how they managed to make sure all the shaken beef was tender, but damn....it was so soft. The lobster meat came out of the shell easily so I didn't look so barbaric prying it out. The prawns were my favorite item, with the crunchy, glazed walnuts. I'm not sure what happened with the other reviewer with a poor experience, but my experience was quite the opposite. It didn't take much effort to work with them. My picky Vietnamese family members were happy, and my husband's Chinese family members were happy. I also thought it was a nice added touch that they provided menus in English, Vietnamese, and Chinese. The only bummer was that we weren't able to pack any leftovers to go, but that was due to rules set by our venue, not Furiwa (health code stuff). Also, when we expressed concerns over serving food family style (due to COVID), Furiwa offered an option to do individual plated meals. I think this may be a little pricier, but you have that option if you're concerned. We ultimately chose to stick with family style and it was fine. You could pay $200/person for steak/chicken, veggies, and a starch....or you could pay half that with Furiwa for a satisfying multi-course meal (we had 8 courses). It would be my husband's birthday the next day and with everybody busy with courses at the university and commuting back and forth from the university for lab and work...it would be near impossible to celebrate and make his birthday special. We had ordered takeout from Furiwa to go in Irvine and thought to use the catering located in Westminster. While waiting for daughter to finish her doctor's appointment, I called to place the order over the phone. Vivian helped to take the order. As it is a catering service, she needed to ask for prepayment. She sent me a link to pay and it also allowed me to review the order of a Dim Sum Signature Platter, XLB dumplings, gai lan with oyster sauce, garlic string beans, rice noodle with shrimp, rice noodle with pork belly, Lo mai gai, crab asparagus soup, football, egg yolk buns (suggested by Vivian because peach buns were not available), and whipped taro which is purportedly a wedding dessert. They were busy in the kitchen when my daughter and I arrived about half an hour later. Vivian checked on our food and brought it out to us when it was ready. The Dim Sum Signature Platter serves a family well. The gai lan were very fresh and green. Real crab is used in the soup as evidenced by shell pieces. The footballs were perfectly shaped. We enjoyed them so much last time that we had to order them again. The whipped taro is very unique. We've never had anything like it. I like having it with pork because the saltiness of the meat can balance out the sweetness of the dessert. I enjoyed the ginkgo in the dessert. FURIWA, WELCOME BACK INTO OUR LIVES!!! Many years ago, my family and I used to frequent Furiwa the restaurant for dim sum, lobster, noodles, honey walnut shrimp, you name it, we enjoyed it. Then two years ago, we stopped by and found out they were CLOSING. We watched with sad faces outside the window and they were essentially cleaning out the restaurant. We saw that they would have a food to go location, but we didn't know if that would be the same foods we enjoyed at their restaurant, or a new menu. Furiwa never left our minds, but we sadly had to settle for other restaurants in the area, which are no match for the high quality food we were used to eating. Finally, Christmas 2020 rolls around, COVID 19 pandemic in full swing, we were going to pick up food and eat it at home, we came up with the idea to look up Furiwa catering to see what they offered. To our complete and utter shock, they had lobster noodles, shaken beef, dim sum, and so many other items!!! We decided we definitely had to try it out. We ordered online, which was extremely user friendly and easy to place our order and pick up time. Christmas Eve we drive up and as we're about 30 minutes away, we hop back on the website and order dim sum! We figured we could scarf that down in the car before our drive back to SD. We arrived and found it tucked away in a little building next to a wedding venue. We were greeted by a friendly young lady and she promptly got us our orders. It was so quick and easy! We brought the lobster noodles back into the car and started splitting up the dim sum. WOW. I don't think we realized how much we missed their dim sum, but it was such a joy eating that meal and we were literally sitting in our car in the parking lot! My husband and I thought it would be so cool to have a banquet style Chinese dinner at a modern venue but didn't think it was a possibility. So, we were super excited when we learned Furiwa was an approved caterer at our wedding venue (Hummingbird Nest Ranch)! Growing up in SGV, we are really picky about our Asian food but Furiwa did not disappoint. They have a large menu of delicious dishes to select from -- it was honestly so hard to narrow it down! We selected Peking duck baos, walnut shrimp and vegetable egg rolls for cocktail hour hors d'oeuvres. The baos were definitely the most popular! For dinner, our favorites were the crab + asparagus soup, Furiwa house lobster garlic noodles, and the basil fish filet! Everything was so good though and our guests completely agreed! Almost everyone asked for the caterer and if they could order from them again :) I also want to shout out Vivian, who was so great to work with throughout the entire planning process! She patiently answered all our questions and even accommodated our request for an off-menu dish (Cantonese style whole roasted/fried chicken), which ended up being a favorite also! My recommendation to future couples is to go to the tasting (there's no time to eat on wedding day so enjoy it when you can!!) and ask Vivian in advance to pack specific leftovers for you. I had asked her to save any leftover wedding cake for us in advance and she made sure of it!! I only wish I had asked to pack our sweetheart table leftovers since my husband and I really didn't get to eat anything after the soup course =D I had asked the server, but I think she forgot or the leftovers got mixed in with everyone else's. My husband and I first fell in love with Furiwa back in November 2020 at a close friend's wedding. As corny as this will sound - it was quite literally love at first bite. From then on, we knew we wanted Furiwa to cater at our wedding. STAFF EXPERIENCE One of the many things I truly appreciate about Furiwa was how flexible they were with our dinner menu. A few members from my husband's side of the family have a very special vegetarian diet, and after explaining the details with the team, they were able to create a whole separate menu for my in-laws, which made them truly feel included. So we had TWO menus; this definitely made our dinner even more special. Drafting and reviewing the contract was a seamless process, and the team was very transparent when it came to pricing and charges. Overall, the experience working with the team at Furiwa was fantastic; they were flexible to work with, the chef was very knowledgeable in their craft, and fully understood our wants & needs. Also - their tasting menu was no joke; it was a full on dinner for me and my husband. And also, they have the cutest dessert options! The cold platter had pork cuts, steamed shrimp, jellyfish, clams, squid, century egg and pickled veggies. I devoured the jellyfish and the century egg. The shrimp in the walnut shrimp was huge! And the whole fish was perfectly crispy, the sauce paired so well with the fried rice. Each dish had a generous amount, so everyone had their fair share and then some. I wish I took some photos because the presentation was gorgeous but of course, bride & groom were off running around. BUT I managed to take 1 photo of the cold platter, see below (lol). OVERALL EXPERIENCE Nothing but great things to say about the team behind Furiwa. From the service to the food, everything was sensational. First off, the food is decent/good depending on dish. I am fair and honest and will give credit when due BUT.... DO NOT book this place for your wedding. I never want anyone to experience the stress/anxiety that I went through with this vendor. It is not worth it. I had to let my now husband deal with them because I could not stand how shady/unfair they were being! I rarely write reviews that are bad/speak ill of vendors but this vendor was terrible. 100% do not recommend for large events. We had reached out initially through a friends recommendation. He uses them for a lot of events and so I thought they would be a bit more understanding and not shady. I was 100% wrong. We had to cancel our wedding 3x and all other vendors were 100% understanding or at least met us half way unlike Furiwa/Vivian who kept taking and taking and adding costs and just hell to work with! The forced our hands so many times because they knew we were locked in. They were only flexible when it benefited them. It's a huge relief I don't ever have to deal with them again! Simply put, Furiwa nailed it. We had our Wedding Reception at Furiwa Restaurant on Brookhurst in November before their transition to a full-on catering service. One of the reasons we picked Furiwa was because we've heard good things about their food and they did not disappoint!! Everyone complimented us on the quality and volume of the food. Now, onward to event planning: 1. The face to face meetings with Vivian were easy to schedule and involved lots of tea drinking. Early on, we were able to hash out menu, pricing, and a few amendments to the contract. 2. Since we had no wedding planner, there was lots to do. It was very involved, and as my wife likes to say, it was a 90-10 split on duties. I'd like to think I did at least 1% more than that and if we're being generous, 2% more. Working with Vivian on the details of the wedding was once again, easy, and she was available to speak in person, email, text, or phone - you name it. 3. I had created a spreadsheet complete with photos on how we wanted to set up the restaurant. Very detailed - pack list, list of items for each table, and instructions on set-up. I created that so the family we asked to help us prior to the Reception would know exactly what to do. Vivian asked that I send that list to her as well. Later when I asked my family how everything went with preparation, they told me it had already been mostly if not all done when they got there. Perhaps I should have picked up on how thorough Furiwa was going to be when my friends and I brought by the last of the materials for the Reception - Vi (who I had met that same day) mentioned, so THAT'S where the tea cups were. I was surprised because I didn't think they'd look through the spreadsheet's pack list. Also, the bulk of the items were brought in earlier in the week and we'd checked off with Vivian. Kind of figured it ended there. 4. Furiwa Restaurant has a beautiful looking chandelier, but the place otherwise, looks rather low-key and muted on a regular day. We wanted the place fully draped, adorned with all the décor we purchased, and our big projector screen up. We worked with several vendors for the Entertainment, Lighting, Photobooth, Indian Appetizers station, the dance floor, and the flowers. There was a ton of moving parts. Now it's hard to envision what the place will look like with our vision in place. When we first walked into the Restaurant, we were absolutely blown away. It was beautiful. Still the best house special lobster in OC! Sad that it's not a sit down restaurant anymore but oh so glad that I can at least order it as takeout. The quality, the preparation, the seasoning is all to perfection. The only thing that was a bummer is I ordered the French style beef (Bo luv lac) but the rice was not included, wish I had known that in advance. My family and I loved Furiwa restaurant. We were sad when it closed down, but extremely excited to see that Furiwa Catering offers our favorite dishes! I order Uber eats from this place at least a couple of times a month. A hankering for dim sum is equally tempting as Chick fila on a Sunday and is impossible to shake. Skip the long lines for in person places on weekends. It's a little pricy for delivery all in all but the dim sum is amazing here. They have all of the stereotypical steamed dishes but also a wide variety of general hot dishes. I've tried other places and non compare. 10/10 read more

I have found this place in one of the delivery services. I think it's door dash. I was craving duck and I found they have Peking duck, so I ordered and it was really satisfying. I ordered again and I have siomai, pork chop and whipped taro dessert. It was delicious. I would order from this place again, packaging was done well. The food is delicious, I wonder if they have a restaurant front. I finally found a place that sells traditional Asian wedding dessert (whipped taro) without having to go to a wedding!! This is so hard to find because most restaurants don't sell them. They also have really good dim sum and offer delivery. Everything was delicious! Professional too. read more

Before the wedding, we attended a tasting which had a lot of the food which was on our menu selection and ended up being really good. The day of the wedding and the day after, we received a lot of compliments on the food and we were very satisfied that we were able to please all of our family and guests who attended. I am writing this review in regards to their wedding packages. My wife and I had planned to use Furiwa for catering and we also planned to book a venue with them as well. We gave them a 5000 dollar deposit around January 2020 and planned to have the wedding in August of 2020. COVID hit and there was a real risk that the wedding could not be held and there were mandatory masking requirements that we would have to adhere to if the wedding did happen. Additionally, my family coming from the East Coast did not feel comfortable being in a large group as we planned to have around 200 guests at the wedding. At this time, I was a resident physician working in an ER near Fresno CA and my wife was working at a skilled nursing facility that nearly every patient had COVID. We were working crazy hours just to save peoples lives and the thought of having a wedding was the furthest thing from our minds. We kindly asked Vivian that we be refunded our 5000 dollars so that we may rebook with them at a later time. They had literally never rendered a single service to us other than signing a single page with projected costs....we never set a menu, never had a food tasting, we did the hotel venue tour by ourselves. Furiwa refused to give us back the deposit. We explained the situation with our jobs/lives at the time, but they still said no. To make matters worse, they threatened us that if we didn't give them an additional 18000 dollars and move forward with the wedding, that they would pursue legal action against us. I told them that they could take me to court if they would like and they eventually backed down. They then called us multiple times to reschedule the wedding, but at this point, their unprofessionalism and threats of litigation made us uncomfortable to work with them or trust them. Please do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company. Vivian and Furiwa could have easily refunded the money and knew that was the right thing to do, but they preferred to take our money without any service rendered. You may be asking, why I am writing this review now? I just happened to come across Furiwa's page while searching for a caterer for my daughter's birthday and felt the need to warn others of our experience. For Vivian and Furiwa, if you are reading this, you still have an opportunity to do the right thing, but doubt that will happen based on how you have conducted yourselves in the past. read more

Love Furiwa! They catered my wedding with their scrumptious food. We had the fried siu mai, cream cheese wonton, and curry puff for hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour and then had the 8 course family style menu for the reception: 1. House Special Cold Platter 2. Asparagus and crab soup 3. Walnut shrimp and shrimp ball 4. House Special Lobster 5. Yang Chow Fried Rice 6. Mushroom Braised Duck 7. Basil and Chili Fish Filet 8. Season Dice Fruits Everything was delicious! I've also had their prawn and chicken salad and hot and sour soup from when they had their restaurant. Not only is their food delicious, but their catering manager Vivian is awesome! She made my wedding planning process go pretty smoothly. She's easy to work with and also helped coordinate the day of. Amazing! Thank you to Furiwa catering and Vivian for making our wedding the best night ever. The food was wonderful and we had a lot of guests compliment our banquet choices especially the lobster w/noodles and boneless duck w/steamed baos. I think we overdid it with the dessert table but hey- YOLO For the food tasing, I recommend the full menu tasing. We invited our family and made it into a family meal. I'm really glad we made that decision because we barely ate any of our excellent food the night of the wedding but we knew that we would be serving up a delicious feast to our friends and family. Vivian was more than just a catering contact- she helped with so many other aspects of the event leading up to the big day and was almost like another wedding coordinator on the day of.
