Very polite and accommodating. Prices remain the same. $7-8 a banh mi and still buy 5 get 1 free. Che are mostly $5 each. They are still a cash only business (there's an ATM onsite, although I imagine the fees are high, lol). The banh mi is better though. They put more meat and the meats are less fatty (which is a win for me, but I know some people like fatty meats). Also when I buy many banh mi, I like to get the veggies separately so the sandwiches don't get soggy. I would often split an order of 6 with my parents and the previous owner refused to split the veggies into 2 bags, she would only give us a single bag with 6 sandwiches-worth of veggies, the new owners happily gave us 2 bags with 3 sandwiches-worth of veggies in each bag. Their baguette is still not a true Vietnamese baguette though. It's the same as previously, which is more like a hoagie bun. They also seem to have a larger selection of Che (Vietnamese desserts) now. It's still takeout only. Then we had #607 crispy fried noodles with seafood $14.95 and #612 stir fried rice noodles with chicken in peanut sauce $15.95. The chicken appetizer was delicious. It was tender pieces of chicken breast covered in a slightly spicy peanut sauce atop a bed of shredded lettuce and pickled carrots. The portion size was small, but it was fantastic. They call it mildly spicy, but the heat really builds up as you eat it. The shrimp appetizer was ok. It was deep fried battered shrimp. Lots of batter. I wouldn't order this again. The chicken stir fry with peanut sauce was so rich and peanuty! I actually loved it. It had mushrooms, egg, broccoli, onions, carrots, bean sprouts and bell peppers in it too. It was like Pad Thai but with a peanut sauce instead of the tangy Pad Thai sauce. I would order this again. The crispy noodles with seafood was good too. It had shrimp, cuttlefish and fish balls in it, as well as bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, broccoli, onions, carrots, and bell peppers. The sauce was a little runny, but it was flavourful. I liked that nothing was too salty, which is my usual complaint at most restaurants. Service was not polished, but very friendly and nice. They give you a piece of paper to write your order on and they mistook 607 for 609 and brought us the wrong dish. They gladly replaced the dish when we informed them of the error. There was some poor penmanship on our part, so my husband left them a big tip for the misunderstanding. In the future, I think it's best to write out the number and also the name of the dish (although the names are all so long) to avoid any misunderstanding. We will be doing this from now on. You get a pot of complimentary tea as soon as you sit down. The place settings have spoons and chopsticks. My father-in-law required a fork and it took them a while to get him one. We also asked for serving utensils since we were sharing all the dishes and that also took a while, but when they came they brought us a lot of forks and spoons and also a laddle(!) They were very nice though. The decor is similar to other Pho places, pretty casual. It's in a strip mall (same mall as Grace in the Kitchen). There is lots of free parking. I would return.

I hated her choice cause of her hourly pay which was 17 dollar an hour? I haven't received any spoiled desserts again after that one isolated incident I previously wrote about. They have Che Ba Mau (tri-colour dessert) for $4 and Che Dau Trang (white bean dessert) for $3. They also have Che Sam Bo Luong (longan, lotus seeds and seaweed dessert), which I've never purchased. I've had this dessert before elsewhere and wasn't a huge fan, which is why I've never had it at Co Cham. I think it's more of an acquired taste, and definitely more exotic than the other 2 desserts, lol. I still haven't dined in at this restaurant yet and have only gotten banh mi and desserts for takeout. With frou-frou eateries selling banh mi for $15+ each (admittedly, I have never had these overpriced banh mi), I'm very happy that Co Cham still sells them for an affordable price. It was good compared to others I've tried but still missing a flavor in the broth. Service was quick. The guy who gave us the menus handed us with a paper to write down our order but didn't speak which was fine because we understood what we had to do. Everything was cooked as we ordered and the vegetable spring rolls were amazing and piping hot when they came out. We couldn't even eat/touch them until our main dishes came out. They were also quick to refill our waters as well. Interestingly enough, the guy who handed us our menus actually finally spoke perfect English when we went to pay. This was a good local spot which consist of actual Vietnamese owners/cooks. There was also a group of Vietnamese ladies who were definitely regulars.

The vermicelli dish came with shredded lettuce and bean sprouts, which were underneath the vermicelli. It also came with pickled carrots and crushed peanuts. The fresh vegetables were fresh and the picked vegetables had a good sour bite to them. We also got a tub of fish sauce, which neither of us like, but my dad does, so I saved it and gave it to him on the weekend when I went to see my parents. I appreciated that they labelled the fish sauce with a warning to open slowly (with a smiley face, lol). Food is packed in styrofoam, which is not my preference for environmental and health reasons. Service was very courteous and efficient. I was told it would be 25 minutes. I returned in 22 minutes and they were just tying up the bag. Perfect timing! Note that the prices on their takeout menu (pictured) are outdated. My dishes were listed as $9.50 each on the menu, but I was charged $11.75, which is still a great deal. They were quite thick and filled with ground pork, carrots and clear noodles. The grilled beef was a bit on the thin side but it was lean and not gristly, which I appreciated. The peanut sauce was a bit too strong in hoisin flavour for my liking, but it was still okay. The star of the show really where the spring rolls, which is fitting since the name of their restaurant is Springroll House. The spring rolls were crispy on the outside and meaty on the inside and very substantial. Service was very courteous and attentive. My ice water was refilled when it was getting low. The restaurant is small and it's a very casual place. I was surprised that it got quite busy on a Wednesday evening. The grilled beef and spring rolls vermicelli was legit! It was so tasty. The beef was flavourful and also moist and juicy, yet lean and not fatty nor gristely at all. The best of all worlds! I loved the beef and cannot rave enough about it. The spring rolls were good too. Crispy on the outside, with ground pork, vermicelli, onions and carrots inside. The wrapper was the more common wheat wrapper as opposed to the rarer rice paper wrapper, which is in my opinion more delicious, but admittedly not as popular here in Ottawa. The vermicelli was perfectly cooked, and the accompanying vegetables (cucumber, carrots, lettuce and mint) were fresh. I asked for no bean sprouts. I also asked for no fish sauce and was asked if I wanted peanut sauce instead, and I accepted. The peanut sauce was delicious. It didn't have that hoisin flavour that some peanut sauces have that I don't like. It wasn't too rich, but was full of peanut flavour. The portion size of the vermicelli bowl was good too. They have chopsticks as part of the place settings, but also forks and knives ;) Service was courteous and efficient. Decor is simple and it's a very casual eatery. It is wheelchair accessible. They serve wine and beer. If you're in Kanata North and craving some good Vietnamese food, you don't have to travel far, there's Phu-Yen! With all due respect, I was a bit surprised to find this gem in a nondescript strip mall in suburbia ;) Lots of free parking in the strip mall.

The ambiance and decor has always been more elevated than the usual Vietnamese restaurants in Chinatown. It's in the Byward Market after all, and caters to tourists. The prices were also much higher than the restaurants in Chinatown. I have never seen any Vietnamese grandmas or grandpas eating here, which is essentially how I gauge if a restaurant is authentic in the cuisine it serves, haha. If the grannies and grampies from that country eat there, you know it's legit. And especially so if the old folks don't speak English, lol. I know the cocktail bar targets a different population, but even when it was a traditional restaurant, the clientele was mostly tourists and people having business lunches. For the above reasons, I was in no hurry to check this place out, despite working nearby. However, I was poking around on UberEats scoping out deals when I saw that this eatery was offering 40% off any order $20 or more. That's an offer that catches my attention, haha. So I ordered the beef vermicelli and spring roll, which was exactly $20, so was only $12 with the special. I placed my order for pick up and headed over. It was ready in about 10-15 minutes. Pickup was quick and service was courteous and efficient. The bar is really nice looking and would be a great way to spend an evening out with friends or on a date. The food was ok, but the beef was thin and a tad bit chewy, but at least it was lean and not all gristly and the quantity was good. The flavour was good too. Not too salty. The vermicelli was a good texture, but had a bit of an old musty smell to it. Not too strong, but present. The chopped up romaine lettuce was crispy, but some of the spines were browning. The pickled carrots and green papaya were great. The 3 slices of cucumbers, sliced obliquely were fresh and crunchy. I was happy there were no dreaded bean sprouts, because I forgot to say to omit them, lol. I don't like fish sauce, so I just said no sauce and used my own sauces at home. I got a single spring roll. I liked that it was packaged separately in a paper bag so it remained crispy. It had vermicelli and vegetables in it. It was good, albeit a little skinny, haha. Although it was dark meat, and I prefer white meat, but at least it wasn't fatty or gristly. And this time the vermicelli did not have a musty smell. The romaine lettuce was also fresher. Although they did not put the spring roll in a separate bag this time so it wasn't as crispy. Overall though, my second experience was better than my first. The restaurant is very modern in decor and our server was very nice. We ordered the fried wonton and fries along with a district 1 mojito, mangos in the market and good morning Vietnam. The fried wonton were wonderful with ginger flavor. The fries had some sort of coating which made them crunchy and the dipping sauces were great. The drinks: good morning Vietnam...had to try it since it had Vietnamese coffee...not too sweet which is what I like. The mojito was fabulous with the tamarind syrup. And the mango...it was great as well. Needed to try these cocktail "specials " definitely a place to go to for a quick bite and drink while at the market.
