As with tradition. Superstition. You gotta have Chinese New Years Eve dinner. And you gotta order specific foods to complete the ritual or else you're technically screwed for the next year. And here I am. Ubered out to Bangkok Restaurant in Amarillo in the sketchiest of all places in town, but damn ..is the food here AUTHENTIC! I've quite honestly haven't seen a Thai dine in menu so complete. In fact this is probably the first Thai restaurant having lived in Los Angeles all these years, that I've ever seen Frog-Lef Kra Pao or Pad Poo Karee (Crab Curry). And without further a do, I ordered 河粉 He Fen (Pad See Ew), to signify Peace and Longevity, I ordered Basil Frog Legs to signify Safety & Peace on return with possible fortunes on the way, I ordered catfish red curry and fish cakes to signify 年年有餘（魚）Nian Nian Yo Yu, Every year will be full of abundance, and I had the Tom Kha, and Sticky Rice Coconut Ice Cream + a Thai Ice Tea. 5 dishes in. Total signifying 五福 Five Fortunes of Good Luck. So enough about CNY, every dish I sampled here was 8.5/10. I did not dislike anything. This was almost like walking into my parents Thai Chinese Friends home as a kid and they cooked comfort food that didn't taste like commercialized Thai food. The fish filets for the cat fish were clean treated, boneless and paired well with the peas prik king similar sauce, the Kra Pao Holy Basil Frog Legs was very similar to Two Chilli Szechuan Stir Fried Frog Legs, and were too also very good. And the Padsee Ew although I liked it, it was very different, served and presented like Pad Thai with stripped cabbage and bean sprouts and even a very thin layer of egg....never seen it served like this before. And lastly the sticky rice. Just get it. A great way to finish the meal. Having come out here without my rig this first time around, I believe next time I'm just going to drive my full rig into their dirt lot. Cheers. ***Entire family including the White guy makes you feel at home**** Coming back for the Crab Curry next episode. read more

10/10. Everything is good here. Our favorite is the Papaya salad Lao style, always has to be spicy. Our waiter is always nice, likes to crack a couple jokes sometimes, nice fella. Everything is good here!! read more

I grew up near this restaurant, the quality and heart of delicious food never changed. Service is welcoming and friendly with a calm and relaxing ambiance, giving them every right to consider themselves a lounge. A true beautiful piece of Amarillo history that I hope continues to thrive. read more

Make the extra effort to go to Bangkok Restaurant. I love the Chicken Larb. It's not pretty. Not for those who aren't there for the food- which is darn good. read more

We hadn't been to eat in a long time. We had forgotten how authentic and delicious the food is. Same service. Updated facility. Clean. Good prices. Generous portions ( expect to get take-out boxes). read more

An overnight stopover in Amarillo during a marathon road trip had us itching for spice and rice. Decided to risk our lives having Thai. To our surprise, the food was absolutely amazing -- with dishes and flavors not toned down for us white folk. We ended up coming back for early lunch on the way out of town AND ordered takeaway for a break in Santa Fe. Embarrassing but true. read more

Was driving through Amarillo to get back home to Dallas so we decided to order some Thai takeout. My bf recommended a couple of other places but they were closed but he said Bangkok was also pretty good. Right now they are only taking cash it seems so we had to drive to atm. I'm not going to lie, expectations were not high but when we got the food, portions were huge. We got the beef jerky and sticky rice, Laos papaya salad extra spicy, pad Thai extra spicy and combination fried rice. All of the food was so good! When you order extra spicy be careful it is spicy but this has been the only place I've been to (including dallas) that has met my expectations when I ask for spicy. This is authentic food not Americanized. Loved this place, will be sad i won't be able to eat here again for a while. read more

We picked a late afternoon meal and that was smart as it became rather busy The portions were well worth the money. And the food was delicious. Worth the drive to the far end of the city. read more

The food was really good and great customer service. I got the cashew chicken and was served with steamed rice. The seafood soup was super tasty and the summer rolls were very tasty especially with the red sauce. Please note it's cash only and they do serve beer at the restaurant. read more

Went back with my mom and the kids and the food was yummmy and delicious as always, they don't disappoint at all the times I have gone, the portions are big and the price is ok especially with price increase, I would keep in coming back. The seafood soup, dancing shrimp, sticky rice, egg rolls are still delish, the food hasn't change and the staff is as friendly as before, I love their food as it hasn't disappointed or change at all. Great service delicious food, I would definitely recommend them, one of my favorite places to eat read more

Never disappoints delicious!!! Highly recommend been going for years!! Also great service always

WOW WOW WOW!!! While in Amarillo for a week's vacation I knew I couldn't make it without Thai food. Our first night there, we stayed in Canyon, TX and ate some not-so-good Thai. Our third day in Amarillo, I found a Thai restaurant (where the food was really tasty) and asked if they made Som Tum. The waitress said they didn't but her mom's restaurant did. She wrote down the name and phone number and said it was only a mile away from there. She instructed me to order the Sum Tum Thai and said her mom makes things "Thai Hot" so order carefully. The next day I called for directions and the guy said they were "across town" from our hotel. Since I grew up in Houston, I chuckled a bit, then got the directions. If you have ever felt as though you were driving into oblivion...well my friends...this was the case. We drove and drove and drove, left civilization, then drove some more. Once we were convinced we were lost and going to be killed.... EUREKA! We found E. Amarillo Street. Once we started seeing signs in Thai...we knew we were on the right track. The outside of the restaurant was not very attractive, but after that drive we were NOT leaving without food. We went in and ordered the Sum Tum Thai (Mild), the Yam Nua (Beef Salad), and the Chow Mein. The Sum Tum Thai was the BEST we've ever had. It was piled in the middle of the plate with 4 Thai chicken wings on one end, fresh green beans and chicharones on the other. The Yam Nua was loaded with greens and beef and the Chow Mein was the same. If you are anywhere near Amarillo, you must seek out this restaurant and try it. We are from Austin and this place has ALL the Thai restaurants beat (sorry Madam Mam's...we still love you!) read more

Absolutely my favorite place , best seafood soup! Every time I visit this is my favorite stop

I have only ordered take out and it was delicious. I will order again soon. The fried rice was full of flavor. It is a favorite spot for many in the family. The location isn't appealing but the menu is worth it. read more

Tried the veggie chow main, pork satay and spring rolls; none was good! Chow main noodle was made from the instant noodle. The skin of the spring rolls were so thick that it was a challenge to bite. And the mayonnaise inside should not be there! The pork satay was tough. The lady's room was a turn-off to step in. read more

This place was actually fairly good. Considering the place is surrounded by myriad Thai places, I suppose that I should have expected it to be fine. The Panang was definitely tasty and the rice was plentiful. My date and I felt as though this part of the meal was sufficient. The rolls/wraps/whatever that we ordered would have been fine but neither of us were expecting cream cheese to be inside. I didn't think that these tasted so great. I would definitely come here again if I'm in the area. read more

Foods is great! Could use a little more hospitality but otherwise an overall good experience.

The food is authentic and they are not worried about the modernization and frivolous outside appearance. If you need or want fancy this place will not impress you but if you want damn good food they will not disappoint. They maintain excellent prices and unwavering consistency in the their menu. You can expect the food to taste the same each time you come. read more

MY NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN AMARILLO! June 16th, 2012 - This place is outstandingly good and incredibly authentic! You're doing yourself an injustice if you don't at least try it for the experience. The food tasted much better and is probably much healthier than most Asian restaurants. We went there for Father's Day weekend with six people, so we all ordered something different and tried it. The whole tilapia and Thai salad were probably the most unique and memorable. The dipping gravy for the whole tilapia with whole chunks of veggies was excellent! I think the Thai salad had cabbage mango and papaya and some kind of pepper. I'm not really sure what was in it other than whole chicken wings, but it was extremely delectable. The sea soup was very tasty. There was this appetizer with sticky rice, fried pork, and cucumbers that was delicious. The stir fry veggies were good and very authentic. The yellow chicken curry was great with whole chunks of veggies and lots of meat. The lemon chicken and crab Rangoons were the only "normal Thai" dishes we ordered and the kids seemed to like them. The spring rolls were a little creamy for my taste, but I could see how some people would like them. I really liked how the menu had such a broad selection and offered something for the most traditional bread and potato pallet in our group to my "Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel" taste buds. I think they only take cash - no check or credit card. If you're not from Amarillo or the Panhandle and adjusted to the water, the tap H20 is very harsh tasting. Be sure to order a canned soda, beer, or bottled water. read more

I would agree with some of comments here. This is not a typical thai restaurant BUT I do like their versions or interpretation here. You'll get an omelet instead of mix egg into your food, you'll get a form instead of chopsticks etc. These are minor issues for me m a taste is very similar to typical thai food and that what counts! read more

This was the worst restaurant I have ever been to. It was awful thai food. The spring rolls had a cream cheese like substance in them-the beef salad has so much fish sauce it smelled rotten. Do not waste your money!! read more

Very good Thai food. Was traveling through town and stopped because of the good Yelp reviews - was not disappointed.

Weird. Pros: - dirt cheap and massive portion Cons: - inside the restaurant was pretty gross and dirty. Bathroom was disgusting - food itself was weird. Definitely not traditional Thai. Noodles had egg cooked with vegetables like an omelette instead of just mixed together Overall an interesting experience but would not go back. read more

This is my go to for anything. 1st date you know if they are cool and adventurous. Hungover...omg. Pho will set you straight. Long day at the office open till 11:30 most nights for sing-ha beer and great service. Dancing Shrimp, beef salad, pad Thai, chicken wings, hard to make a bad choice. Sooooooo good. read more

This place was excellent. Delicious food at a very reasonable price. The dining space is limited so there may be a wait during conventional dinner hours. read more

The food was good..... until we found a fly in our sauce. My family and I couldn't even enjoy the food after, cleanliness matters and Bangkok you should step it up. read more

Been going to this place for years! The owners are super friendly and know you by name and remember what you order. The fried rice is fantastic and so is the lad na! The summer rolls arn't your typical summer rolls as well, there is cream cheese in it which is pretty good, I prefer mine without the veggies. The pasyu is yummy too, love mine with the egg on top! This is definitely a go to place for thai food, might not look fancy on the outside but the food is worth it. read more

Really enjoy going here. Food is always great and so is the service. Staff is real freindly. Great place

No comment. They waitress so rude when I ask for lemon. When she came out and dropped it on the table.

The food here is amazing! I have been coming here for about 20 years now. My family comes from 8 hours away just to eat here. The owners and staff are super friendly. "A T." is right, the owners and staff know you by name and remember what you like to order. It is seriously the best Thai food I have ever tasted....anywhere! I have lots of favorites here. I love the seafood soup, the shrimp fried rice, the beef jerky and sticky rice, and the eggrolls. I will continue to be a loyal customer because their food is fantastic!! read more

too much msg. too much too much too much... in a way that you will wake up at 4 in the morning thirst for water... been there 5 to 6 times already to try diff dishes... fried rice was pretty good... others are just ok... just too much msg on everything... esp the soup read more

This place is zero atmosphere, but you'll be too focused on your plate. Thai places are a dime a dozen, but this is real deal Thai. Every time I come to Amarillo I eat here. It beats most every over Thai place I've been. Green curry is amazing. Cash only. read more

This is My FAVORITE asain food restaurant!! I love the "cream cheese substance" the other reviewer had described it :-p lol. Thats actually my favorite part of the summer roll and cheese crab wontons. Its sweet and mixed in with (imitation) crab (but im not picky). If you have never had beefjerky and sticky rice, you should, the Beef jerky is think and hot and sometimes a little juicy. and the food is definatly pletiful. They even have little booklets of the food so you know what exactly what you're getting :-D read more

If you want to know what authentic Thai food is all about, you have to go East and try Bangkok. This is not "Americanized" grub. I like the green papaya salad, extra spicy - I ordered it, and they asked me if I had visited Thailand - Not the most known item on the menu for the standard business customer, I guess. The soft shell crab is fired to perfection and served with a spicy Thai sauce. The "garlic" dish is not so spicy and a real treat. Try the "dancing shrimp" if adventuresome, it s like a shrimp ceviche, but kicked up with incendiary Thai peppers. Love their version of sticky rice and beef jerky....yum!!! The Thai steak is also worth a try.....and their fried whole fish with spicy sauce is worth the wait. read more

The weird waiter that's always there I can't get over the food is good the atmosphere was awful and waiter was so strange tried to be funny but wasn't and kept touching me and sitting down next to me and touching my leg so completely uncomfortable . Went back again to see if I could get another waitress maybe and nope there he was touching me and trying to be funny by insulting me. So never again ! read more
