Located near the hospital I decided to try this Thai place based off of a recommendation. I came in around 2 o'clock, which is about an hour before they close from their lunch. The place was fairly busy, but did not feel that way with service. Service was fairly quick and checked in often. I opted for the two entrée lunch special with deep-fried sweet-and-sour pork and deep-fried lemon chicken. I felt like both were really good, but I honestly loved the fried rice with all the sauces. For only $10 it was a great meal with an eggroll on the side. I also opted to try their shrimp and their spring roll. The waitress told me the difference and both were honestly delicious. Remains one of my all time Amarillo favorites! This time we did it a little different. Bowl of egg drop soup with the most amazing wonton chips! Chicken fried rice. Yellow chicken curry was my personal favorite this time! Great flavor! I wish I had taken pics! So much food! Enough fried rice for 3 more meals! Enough curry for 3 more meals! When visiting a family that's not your own, you learn of the traditions and the places other families adore. I've been to Amarillo less than 10 times in my life (more than most people), and this is the second time I've stayed overnight which has allowed me to explore more of the city. After a long and busy day, we found ourselves hungry when My Thai was suggested. Everyone in the house sat up practically jumping out of their seats. Postures changed. No one was slouching. Everyone was at attention. That's the tone-setting type of energy a place like My Thai brings to Amarillo residents. I put my Yelp reviewer hat on, and immediately bought into the experience. It was time. Like most Thai and Chinese restaurants, there are a lot of different options on the menu, but most of them seem to be the same text in different fonts. That's not a diss. There's just a lot of simple variations to these meals that change it into something completely different. I ordered their Vegetable Fried Rice with Chicken added in. I was told that the additional vegetables added in their vegetable fried rice elevated the meal to another level, so I followed orders. We also ordered both pork and shrimp egg rolls to enjoy. Once the order was placed, my girlfriend and I went moments later to pick up the meal. For 5 people, it came in three separate bags filled with tons of styrofoam to-go boxes, all of which were immensely heavy (considering that it was just food). We drove home with these multi-pound bags sitting on my lap and once inside we cracked them open to reveal an absolutely loaded meal for every one of us. There were 3 meals in each to-go container. For the $10-$12 we paid for a meal, it is an incredible bargain for the amount of vegetables, chicken, and fried rice they sent my way. Inside, there was stir fried broccoli, snow peas, green cabbage, celery, mushrooms and carrots, tomatoes and onions. With a little soy sauce, the meal was immaculate to sit on the couch and destroy. I had leftovers on leftovers that I never got to eat because there was so much stock. The egg rolls were crispy and packed with flavor as well, which made them just as addictive as the main meal. This is one of those places that is around for generations and people pass it down. My girlfriend's mom told me she would eat here when she was in high school. That's a place that has built its legacy in Amarillo. It's been open since the 80s. That's more of a cultural touchstone to the real Amarillo residents that most places can't even match. That's love. I really wanted to like this place because the service was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. The egg drop soup tasted overwhelmingly like garlic and onions, to the point that it was hard to enjoy sent it back. I also ordered the " combination " chow mein noodles, but what I received looked and tasted like instant ramen noodles that I could have easily bought at the grocery store for a fraction of the price.Plate was mostly noodles not much protein at all. Found this restaurant because it was close to my hotel. I have to say, I was disappointed in the quality of food. I ordered egg drop soup and it wasn't to my taste. It had a gritty texture and had bits of egg shells in it. I also ordered chicken pad thai and first of all, it had no spice at all. Was very bland. I had to ask for hot sauce to get some flavor. We love My Thai. The restaurant is a family favorite. We enjoy the fried rice dishes, the chicken cashew and the chicken curry especially. The egg rolls are very good. Moo Satay is very good as well. The jasmine tea is wonderful on a cold day. The service is great. The prices are still reasonable but have gone up considerably in the last few years probably because of the economy. The lunch specials are good. The restaurant is family friendly. Veteran who eats at My Thai on the regular. We've been eating there for over 28 years. This isn't acceptable to just throw an entree that has a lot of sauce in with the rice and hope for the best. We spent 79.00 tonight buying dinner for the whole family and this was not only a huge disappointment but I didn't want that much white rice just mixed all in my cashew. I sometimes eat a few bites of rice, I sometimes don't eat any and save it for my kids to make their own fried rice with. This slop I can't do anything with. Yum, I had a wonderful dinner here. I couldn't decide where to go out to dinner last night and hemmed and hawed around, finally decided to try this place which was not that far away from where I am staying. I saw good and bad reviews but decided to try for myself. Sometimes I like a place with a poor rating and sometimes I don't like a place with a top rating, so you just never know. I had looked through the pictures on Yelp before coming here and saw a picture that looked like a really good soup so I asked the young waiter if he recognized what it was. He did and showed me on the menu. I ordered it along with some lemon water and it came in a reasonable amount of time. It had a kick to it but wasn't burn-my-tongue-off spicy, although it was quite hot temperature-wise. He brought a plate of rice that wasn't terribly large and I found by scooping some of the meat out and putting it on the rice plate too cool, then scooping up a piece of meat and some rice and dipping it in the soup, it caused the soup to cool down enough I could eat it without having to stop and blow on it. It was a pretty huge bowl and the price was under $8. I was really in a soup mood and it was perfect. In fact, I had such good flavor I was having a hard time stopping when I got full. I had enough left to make a nice lunch or dinner the next day. One of the best parts was when the young man asked if everything was okay and if I needed more rice. I was actually almost out of rice and was tickled pink to find that they would bring more (and didn't charge extra). As I told him, that took a good meal and made it into a perfect meal. It wasn't that the rice was anything special, just rice with nothing added that I could tell. But it was just perfect with the soup. I like to go to a wide variety of places when I'm in a town and I think I will add this one into my rotation, especially if I'm in the mood for soup. They had a chicken rice soup that looked so good I almost ordered it but I'm glad I got what I got. My overall impressions were that when I walked in the place look nice and clean, had a lot of people for a Monday night at 8 p.m. so I figured it must be a popular local place, smelled good upon entering, I was greeted and seated immediately and the server arrived as soon as I was seated. Watered down red pepper sauce, overly salty soy sauce. Cashew chicken meal was not good at all. It was missing its red peppers. Looks like they substituted many green onions for the missing peppers. The cashew chicken sauce was almost black in color and it was lacking in favor. Their fried rice looked more like unfavored white rice. Just a few pieces of egg and the rice did not look like their usual fried rice. Their egg rolls looks more like a finger roll. They are about half the size they used to be. Do not go here for Thai food! It's also a Chinese restaurant and perhaps that should be what they focus on. My friend and I picked up food here the other night (Pad Thai) and it was a gross pile of warm noodles with zero flavoring.
