Great restaurant with some of the best food in Canyon! Good prices for the amount of food you get, and good service

The dude who took our togo order over the phone got it all wrong!!!!! So when we arrived to pickup our order they were missing a major entree. The rest of the food was cold, and the salad had very little dressing and peanuts. Absolutely the worst shrimp pad thai I have ever eaten!!!! No peanuts or green onions! And only 3 shrimp, lol! And no adjustments were made on the screwed up order. We had to wait 30 minutes also. $66.00+tip...Pass! read more

I eat at King and I every chance I get!! I usually get the Yum woon sen salad. It is always fresh with the spicy citrus combination! I crave this salad! No other Thai restaurants in the vicinity have it that I have found. Their beef noodle soup is yummy also, a version of Pho. The stir fry is always piping hot with fresh vegetables. I've had sushi several times and have never been disappointed! They are consistently good! Don't let the outside of the building deter you . It is pleasant inside. Never busy but I attribute this to their location which is off the beaten path. Run, don't walk to try this gem!! read more

Our family loves Thai food. We didnt see this restaurant listed on google when I searched for Thai food. We went to another restaurant listed and left because the business hours listed online were wrong but luckily a very kind woman waiting on a take out order at that restaurant suggested we go to The King and I because they are open a bit later. I am so glad she did. The food was phenomenal. The service and the staff were exceptional and so warm and welcoming. We had a sampler appetizer, 2 sushi rolls, i had a bowl of phò, my husband had a fried rice entree, my kids had teriaki chicken, pad thai and pad mee. The menu is gigantic. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. The prices were so reasonable too. I couldnt believe how much food we got for around $110. Definitely impressed. We will be returning! It was not very busy when we went, it was around 8pm though so i could understand, but i would really love if more people could support this business and keep it here forever! Very blessed to have this restaurant so close to home! Kids menu had great options, the teriyaki chicken is grilled and comes with fried rice, spring roll and steam broccoli. A plate full. More than plenty for a child. I couldn't imagine giving this place less than 10 out of 5 stars. We have had Thai food all over the country and this business is a keeper! read more

Had to go back a second time to make sure that the great food wasn't a fluke. Although the restaurant is pretty quiet the food speaks volumes. A great Asian hidden gem worth checking out. read more

On my first visit to "The King and I", I ordered the Pad Thai (for takeout). An excellent choice - at a great price - and very delicious. Sydney (hopefully I got that spelling correct) - provides excellent customer service - and I was able to observe her speed & efficiency in handling multiple existing customers - and taking care of multiple new customers that arrived while I waited for my order. read more

I was looking for some thai food for a lunch event at work and it was between this place and the other Thai place in town that gets good reviews Sayakomarn. Well the other place couldn't be bothered to return several of my phone calls, so I doubt that I will ever bother spending any money there. The owner is very nice, this place always seems empty though...which I don't get as it is in a good location. I was able to price out a few trays of food which included mixed pad thai, fried rice and stir fry along with a tray of sushi (california rolls only). Everyone liked the dishes at work and the pricing was reasonable. It was by no means super authentic Thai food, but it was good. This is the panhandle of Texas, so there are no great Asian restaurants around here in my opinion but if you set your expectations realistically then you will not be disappointed. read more

We came for lunch at 1:30 so not overly concerned there was only 1 car in the lot. The half dead rose at our table should have been a clue though. My husband hoped the fish was fresher. Couldn't understand our server when she tried to explain the lunch sushi special so the chef had to come out and try. The miso soup was broth only. You could strain your eyes looking for any fish in the rolls (served without soy sauce, ginger, wasabi or chop sticks.) The salad of iceberg lettuce and carrots was fresh if small. The springs roll hot but nothing special. I would have given this place 2 stars but my husband (rightly) pointed out "what did you expect for $7.95?" Maybe their Thai food is better but I wouldn't recommend the lunch sushi special. read more

You really need to double check what they charge you. They tell you on the phone that it is a lunch special and then charge dinner price. They have scammed me twice. I would avoid this restaurant all together since it is a scam restaurant. Per the menu they have lunch and dinner prices and that means a lunch special would be another price. Also the sushi is mostly rice and has very little fish. That also is not normal if you have had good sushi before. Yet another way to rip you off. They need to be shut down. read more

This place is the hidden gem of Canyon! It's the best sushi I have ever had. Always freshly made when you order. The Buffalo balls are our favorite treat! If you're new to any or all of these cuisines, then The King and I might be a good introduction. For experienced Asian foodies, though, prepare to be disappointed. Let me say this: it's as good as any Thai food you'd find in an American mall food court. The wait staff is friendly, and they do aim to please. But even after asking our server which she preferred, the pad thai or the red curry, and ultimately ordering the pad thai - since she had never tried the curry and said most people enjoy the pad thai - she wrote down that I ordered chicken fried rice instead. Curious, no? But we did have a large party, and mistakes are forgivable, especially when corrected fairly quickly. read more

It was a Friday night, and it was aight. This place at first glance is a humble dive, sort of unassuming. Lo and behold, was that an open neon sign in the window? Why, yes it was open! The dish I ordered was light and simple, wonton soup and jasmine tea, but it was very tasty to be certain. My son ordered a lo mein noodle dish with Thai tea. Best Thai in town hands down. With the plus of sushi! Yes the sushi is good but it is the only place we have found authentic Thai! The menu does not have it but we asked if they could make Thai curry authentic and they gladly whipped it up. We have tried this in other places and received a blank stare but not here. It was close to what you get in Thailand. Having Asian friends around the world we have had some home cooking from Asia. Pad Thai here is on the money and tasty. The King and I is your local mom and pop stop. They work hard to make your experience a good one. That almost deserves an extra star but I can't do that. I can only say the food here is at best a little better than decent and the sushi is terrible. It is frozen and has to be thawed. One day I went and ordered sushi and there was ice still in the fish. It was like sucking on a sushi popsicle. Gross. They brought another one out and I could still tell that it had just thawed because it was really cold in the center. However, if you are not eating the sushi, it is still worth trying in Canyon which isn't saying much because I don't think anything else is much better. They have good service and some interesting dishes. I just hope they figure out their frozen sushi situation. Oh and I forgot they don't serve alcohol. Canyon was just until recently a dry county, however, they are not anymore. I don't think anyone would complain if you could pair an ice cold Sapporo with a spicy noodle dish, but that won't be happening. Someone needs to set the standard in Canyon because no one is going to care until a restaurant sets the precedent and I know I am not the only one who feels that way. read more

The canyon roll is the best sushi. The king and I is my favorite place to go. You should definitely give it a try
