Gotta say, the lady here, didn't have the nicest personality. Their prices are also a bit higher than expected. The vanilla soft serve were creamy and not overly sweet. When I saw a sign on the window for almond vanilla swirl I asked for one paid $9.52 for a large with chopped nuts and chocolate jimmies. Left so excited to try a non dairy soft serve. Wow I was shocked when the taste hit my tastes buds it quickly reminded me of old ice cream that had been sitting in your freezer for months. Alright, I have only been here once, so far, but it was literally the best fro-yo I have ever had--and I am really picky about my fro-yo! They have tons of really cool frozen yogurt flavors (I had cookie-dough) and the staff was really friendly as well. I agree with Liz that it is a little pricey, but I think it was well worth it since the portion sizes were quite large. I can't wait to come back and explore the other flavors...I might even try one of the banana splits! read more

I love this place so much. I've been going here since I was a kid. The employees are always really nice. The ice cream is always delicious. I love getting bubblegum, strawberry cheesecake, and the chocolate vanilla soft serve swirl. They have a great assortment of flavors, toppings, and foods to choose from. The raspberry lime rickey's are hella good. If you're not in the mood for an ice cream, they always have an assortment of slush flavors. And with the banana splits, you could choose any kind of ice cream scoop you want with it, any and all toppings, and the banana that comes with it really ties it all together. My mom always gets the banana splits when she comes. And they last for a few days as well if you don't have a super big appetite. Just put it in the freezer and eat some more whenever you're ready! Clean, friendly, DELICIOUS! I love Banana Splitz. I like that there is the option to go inside if you don't want the town of Saugus seeing you stuff your face with ice cream. and if you don't care and just want to be outside on a nice day? Then you have that option too. I also am amazed everytime at the slush scooping techniques of the people who work in here. Did you go to slush school???? Of course, most of us like to get atleast 2 flavors and you know a lot of the places you have been to will dump half in first and the other half on top which is epecially sad if you get a lemon/cherry combo because the cherry will domiate the lemon after being on top for that long but not at Banana Splitz! It's your typical "non chain" ice cream parlor, featuring a walk up ramp with outside service windows, seating on the inside and an extensive menu that hangs above several bustling teenagers. Banana Splitz serves everything you would expect: soft serve, sundaes, frappes, tons of flavors and of course banana splits! My favorite ice cream in the place is their grape "flavor burst". You know, vanilla soft serve with purple grape flavoring coating the soft serves four edges (Ok, maybe you don't know. I only discovered it last summer and have yet to encounter it anywhere else). They have several flavors that you just have to try! I live in Allston and am willing to drive all the way to Saugus on the drop of a hat to get this ice cream. Thought I'd try a local place instead of heading to a favorite - Kennedy's Ice Cream Bar in Melrose. Man oh man am I regretting this decision! I ordered a hard vanilla ice cream with jimmies. Apparently, the lady didn't hear me because not only did she serve me sprinkles, which I could clearly see was not jimmies but she also gave me soft serve. I decided to keep it to not be a pain and reduce any hand to hand contact BUT OMG, the sprinkles tasted like GLASS and had a super chemical aftertaste. The vanilla ice cream was also pretty bad! My daughter who has never complained about the taste of any ice cream also mentioned that the sprinkles tasted weird and her coffee oreo ice cream was super bitter. Needless to say, I will not be revisiting this place and I would certainly not recommend it to anyone else! read more

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. The employees at this establishment is beyond RUDE - from the cashier all the way to the manager. When I arrived, I asked for a sample of cake batter ice-cream, as they are not the same at every ice-cream parlor. While making my decision, I asked what was in a brownie sundae for my boyfriend. She told me your choice of ice-cream, brownies, whip cream, nuts, hot fudge, and a cherry. I replied, "okay can I get a brownie sundae but with caramel instead of hot fudge and also no cherry". I also ordered a cake batter ice-cream since it is from Richardsons. She gave me my two ice creams, and then I proceeded to pay. My boyfriend couldn't wait to try his sundae, only to find there was no brownie. He then asked the cashier if there was any brownie in there and she replied no you ordered a sundae. I then stepped in and said, no I ordered a brownie sundae. INSTEAD OF FIXING HER MISTAKE SHE GAVE ME MY CARD AND SAID "BROWNIE SUNDAES DON'T HAVE SIZES HAVE A GOOD DAY" AND THEN WALKED AWAY. I then waited to see if she would come back but I could see her pretend to ignore me through the window. So I asked another employee if I could see a manager. This employee told me the manager was not in and asked what was wrong. I explained my story & she was proceeded to make the brownie sundae. Then comes back the rude girl and she tries to charge me another 2.50. First of all, I wouldn't mind paying more for the brownie sundae if 1. they weren't rude. 2. If the price difference between a sundae and a brownie sundae was 2.50 BUT IT WASN'T. The regular large sundae costs 6.75 while a brownie sundae cots 7.50...... That's a .75 cents difference so why the 2.50? The second employee who helped me did not know what to do so all the sudden the manager appeared. I explained my story a third time and then what do you know.... the manager was also rude. The manager, I think her name was Liz. She stated "she's not a rude person so...." "I'll charge you 1.75" I'm like what? Maybe their math skills aren't up to par so I explained to her the difference in charge.... she then said I "Wasted their product" IT WAS NOT MY MISTAKE. IT WAS THEIR MISTAKE SO HOW DID I WASTE ANY PRODUCT? AT LAST I WAS SO BAFFLED BY HOW RUDE AN ESTABLISHMENT COULD BE I JUST SAID "I DON'T EVEN WANT YOUR PRODUCT. JUST GIVE ME A REFUND." So here's to me "wasting twice their product". I will never come to this place ever again and I will make sure to tell my friends and family to never come here either. They obviously have no idea what customer service is all about and are clearly working in the wrong industry. RUDE RUDE RUDE. read more

I wish I could give a zero for customer service. Was in there today 6-24-18. My husband ordered a sundae, I ordered a raspberry Ricky and a fried dough. The girl asked someone to make the fried dough and no one did. My husbands ice cream was gone before I got my fried dough. I waited 10+ minutes. She should of finished my order herself. Instead she kept taking orders from the rest of the guest assuming someone else was making my food these girls are rude and things got done when the woman in charge cane in. 9/11/2013 don't fill out the paper (box on counter) for a free child saftey kit. a random person shows up at your home ringing the bell, asking to speak w you, husband or sig. other, & to set up an appt. plus he was asking me personal questions; which i hung up on him on the intercom/buzzer. he kept calling several more times. warning!!!!! i called banana splitz & asked if they knew the person- no just that a guy comes in and empties it a few times a week. she even asked me if she should remove. common sense !!!!!!!! why would they have even done this not checking into the person or if this was legit. 9/10/2013 not sure why everytime we go in here my order is always made differently & in a different size cup????? i've ordered the same twice. bit pricey $12-$15 for 2 items (ice cream). the staff is some what friendly but if theres an issue with a customer don't address it to everyone (other staff & customers). if you don't know an answer or how to make the order tell the customer rather than making it wrong or brush off the question. the soft serve ice cream seems a bit gritty not sure why. the place is kept very clean. just not into the tied shirts in a knot when it's a family establishment (or ???). read more

I was so excited when this place opened several years ago. All of the ice cream shops east of route one closed, so this was a breath of fresh air. The ice cream isn't so bad. It's not Kimballs or Cherry Hill, but it is the only game in town. My major complaint is with the servers. If you order the same thing three times in a row, each time it is made differently, even different containers. And the servers appear to be fifteen going on eight. They giggle, don't understand specific requests, and if you mention more than one thing they get confused. One has to wonder how they are trained. Are they given an apron and just sent to the counter? We go there because it's close, not because it's good. If service improved we might not go to Soc's at all. read more
