I tried out a banana smoothie because it seemed appropriate given the company name, and that was satisfactory. It was a decent price and had a not too sweet but still obvious banana smoothie. I'd get one again. I was actually going to get a food item, but their menu pages scrolled really fast. Like I couldn't read one fully until another one would come up, and at some point I didn't want to keep standing their frantically trying to read and compare items. It would be a lot easier to see all the options at once. And they mispelled coffee as "coffe." For a business that has a few locations, the whole menu board seems very carelessly thrown together. There's street parking, but it can get busy. If I was already in the area, the smoothies were fine and I'd consider one again, but I feel like I'd have to study their online menu first to see what I wanted. My boyfriend introduced me to Banana King years ago and since then I have had cravings for their empanadas and milk shakes. I love their beef empanadas and the cheese ones, I get random cravings for them at all hours so the fact that Banana King is open real late is a huge plus. The pink sauce ( I think its mayo & Catsup ) is the perfect addition to the crunchy exterior of the empanada. The store itself is pretty much a counter and a few tables and chairs, we usually just take our food to go or eat in the car depending on how busy they are. read more

First time at a Banana King! Everyone I know has raved about it! From my first experience, I'm giving them three stars because maybe I don't know a good arepa when I have one! Otherwise, two stars would be generous! Ordered an arepa Cubana. I was the only person in the store and it took least 10 minutes before I got my food. My arepa was oily and topped with meat, which was much more like ropa vieja than roast pork, on top of a couple of slices of ham that looked like they came right out of a package! It was mushy and really salty! There was plenty to eat, but I didn't enjoy it. I'll try something else next time! read more

By far the greatest thing this place has to offer are the shakes, but I am reviewing this place for overall experience. The major pros are that it's open 24 hours and the shakes. If this place only sold shakes, it would probably be a five-star rating. The fact that it's open 24 hours is nice but I personally would hesitate to hang out here during the late hours. I think I would personally choose a diner over this place if I was looking for late-night food after the club. But in the morning, hangover shakes, here I come! LOL Which brings me to the food - in my opinion, I've had better. But then again, I've eaten items off the menu that I've had homemade and from various sit-down type restaurants. So for all I know, it may supposed to be on or slightly above par with fast-food joints in terms of quality and I am just judging harshly. But then again, I think I just wish the food were as good as the shakes. Service is fine, place gets pretty packed and you have to know what you want prior to ordering. The place looks old but it looks like they do their best to have it well-kept. I went to the banana king and ordered some chicken empanadas and salchipapa and a strawberry banana smoothie. I was eating one empanada and thank god I noticed this while I was eating it and didn't actually swallow the next piece I was about to bite because I found a hair in it. I was so grossed out and about to throw up. Literally ! I didn't but I couldn't eat any of the other food I got because my appetite was ruined. I should've went back and returned all the food and asked for a refund. But I did go in and show them the half eaten empanada with the hair in it. First of all let me tell you I'm talking to one of the employees that said next in Spanish but I spoke in English to see if they were going to talk shit. I'm like this is disgusting. You need to make sure your cooks know what the hell they are doing cause I found a hair in my empanada and he doesn't understand me but was asking a lady to translate. Damn...I'm kinda torn here...because this place isn't necessarily a full on 4, but it's not a 3 either. Apparently this is a chain of fast Colombian food. Their empanadas & batidas are might tasty...and next time I go (yes, I'll more than likely hit them up again...perhaps that can give a better justification of the 4th star) I'll stick to just ordering a big ol' order of empanadas (the beef ones, thank you very much). Their main event, what many people identify as Colombian food- the arepa wasn't that great at all. As a matter of fact, I don't think I'll ever order one from here again. Their arepas, quite frankly, were an insult. They were more dough than actual cornmeal & I felt they could use more cheese in them. Overall, food is pretty tasty when you're craving something oily and a cold fruit smoothie. Their smoothies are on point regardless of what flavor you choose. I've only tried the pinchos and salchipapa here. The pinchos I really enjoy, though the chicken breast is oddly colored pink because of their seasoning. The fries are also good but the hot dogs they use for their salchipapa is a notch above scrap. Not flavorful at all and looks like mystery meat instead of a 100% beef dog that I would eat. If you're only ordering a smoothie, you'll be out in only a few minutes depending on the crowd and time of day (or night). Food service is, however, slow...always...and I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. It could be everything is cooked to order or the staff doesn't know how to handle multiple orders at a time and they need to learn to prep. Lunch time or after club hours...this place stays pretty busy. Parking can be a hassle and the crowd of customers can be a little rowdy during late night hours. I recommend giving this place a try during the day and if you enjoy it, you'll most likely visit this location when you're really craving a late night snack. Otherwise? I'd avoid. read more

I only ever order their patacon king and an avena milkshake. This is one of their signature dishes that really should be tried by everyone eating here for the first time. It is a sandwich made out of fried plantain topped with chicken, melted mozz, tomato, and shrimp atop. Definitely try the pink sauce and the chimichurri sauce on top. Late night grub session after staying local on town. This place gets crowded around 1am - 2am. The workers usually call out orders in Spanish so be wary of that. Know how to count or go with a friend that does. Smoothies weren't that impressive, for a place that specializes in it, I've had better. I had the mango shake with milk. I'm surprised I haven't checked out this place sooner! I have recollections of friends stopping here after some nights at the nearby loop lounge. Remembering it is a late night spot I decided to check it out a few times. I decided to try the chicken sandwich with a strawberry milkshake. Very interesting indeed! Good shake and a nice (almost) flat bread type of sandwich. Not as greasy as I first imagined. I'm not sure what type of sauce they put on the sandwich but it's sensational! 75 cents extra for bacon though. Luckily they pile that sucker on for you real good! It is good without the bacon as well so don't fret. Also should note they have a decent vanilla milkshake as well. You have a lot to choose from as far as shakes go. You get a choice of with milk, carnation, or neither to go into the mix of whatever you decide. They have a lot to choose from as far food goes too so I'm sure you can find something you'll like. I'll be sure to update as soon as try a lot more stuff. I think it's safe to say I'm addicted to this place. Well played Banana King, I might as well be a jester in your court now. I waited 15 minutes for an order i placed for a chicken sandwich and when I went up to ask the status of my order, about 6 of them just looked at me and continued working. When I finally got someone to tell me where my sandwich order is, she told me "it's coming out right now". 10 minutes later, I finally got my order. Took them about 30 minutes to make my chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomatos which was greasy, soggy and tasteless.
