I've never seen it get extremely busy (except opening day) so the service is fairly quick. They have a couple tables outside and some chairs so you can enjoy your drink outside. Though they serve a wide variety of drinks, they are more Vietnamese influenced, specializing in Vietnamese dessert drinks. They have several bubble teas with different types of toppings you can choose from. The flavor and ice ratio is just right, not too sweet but just enough to taste the flavors. They also offer Vietnamese coffee which is quite unique, and drinks that have it mixed in. One of my favorites is the avocado smoothie (they have two kinds). However, one day, at only about 4pm they were out of tapioca. A good amount of people, including me, were very disappointed with this, because we came for bubble tea. I really don't know with you Bambu... It's like a hit or miss. Today my husband went and ordered your #10 which looked nothing like your picture! He asked if it was correct and they told him yes. When I saw the drink I asked what is that? He said what I got last time, i said no it's not.. Why is it all dark and black? Not sure if you guys poured grass jelly juice in the drink but it is typically pretty white because of the coconut milk. So disappointed.. I didn't even want to drink it. I asked if he wanted me to go back inside and ask them to exchange it he said no of course. I am sorry to say but I am not a fan. This was my second time stopping in and both times I was disappointed. My first trip I got a lychee milk tea at the suggestion of the employee working. It was gross and I barely had 4 sips before throwing it out. It was so heavy on the milk that it was just too much. This recent stop I had a mango jasmine green tea which was supposed to be with mango pearls. It was served with tapioca instead which was no big deal but the taste was just not good. It had a really strange after taste from the jasmine that I just couldn't get past. I think I will stick to my go to spot in Ferndale from now on when I want Boba. read more

This Vietnamese chain is all over the states but mostly in California so we are lucky to have one in Michigan! All the drinks are delicious, especially if you enjoy super iced sugary beverages with fruit. The coconut meat in the #1 Bambu Special is served in generous and hunky portions. Yum! They've also got bubble tea, macrons and waffles (that are green in color from the pandan). The place is very clean (including the bathroom). I only wish they had a 'loyalty card'. Yeah, me neither... until I stepped into Bambu. I heard about this place a while back from some of my Asian friends who are foodie experts and bubble tea critics. So when they talked about it, I had to see for myself. The setting reminds me of a modern froyo place. The cafe has the cute plastic chairs and tables and the smell of waffle cones! Don't let your nostrils deceive you. Bambu does not sell waffle cones...instead, please introduce yourself to their coconut pandan waffle. What is a coconut pandan waffle? That's a great question. I googled it and I'm still not sure what it is by definition! What I can do is describe it as a a green chewy goodness mixed coconut shavings that make you think of a lighter, softer and not so sweeter samoa cookie, without the chocolate. I had it in the cafe when it was fresh from the waffle maker and it was amazing. I had it again when the hubby brought it home and found that it's much more appetizing when you have it fresh in the cafe. I tried their "taro lover" and wasn't a big fan of the pandan jelly at first. It was way too chewy for my liking and there were too many textures to really decide if I liked it or not. But it grew on me, and I'm kind of craving some again. I also tried the fruit lover a few days later and found the drink to be surprisingly satisfying and addicting. The Coconut Milk with Jello, Lychee, Longan, Jackfruit, Palm Seed, Red Tapioca, Coconut Meat and Pandan Jelly all came together so nicely. It was a dessert you had to scoop out to enjoy. If you are a bubble tea fan, and the che (pronounced GEAH like... "yeah" but with a "chg") freaks you out, find comfort that It's okay. It still freaks me out, but I'm still adventurous to try out new flavors because I always end up liking what I ordered. If you want to travel a safe route, Bambu also has the familiar milk bubble teas. And let me tell you, their taro milk tea is on point and you can choose from oolong, jasmine and green tea as your base. I could go on and on about this place. Coming from California, I was surprised to see this franchise store in Michigan. I wish I found this place earlier, which would have saved me the trouble of trying out other weird places with unsatisfying drinks. This place is located on John R and 13 Mile Rd, and this road also has a bunch of other Asian businesses if you are looking to find some. There is a decently sized parking lot nearby Bambu as well. When you walk inside, it really has the "Asian boba shop" feel with bright decor, pictures of drinks and mochi on the wall, and plenty of tables and chairs. The first time I came here, I ordered a HoneyDew MT with boba and pudding. Quick to note is their $10 minimum if you want to use a card by the way. Back to the drink, it was creamy, smooth, and sweet. For the price of $3.95, this didn't feel too expensive and definitely worth it. This place was also busy, so we had to wait a while for our drinks. They should put on more staff during their peak hours as opposed to just two people. The next time I came here, I tried the Coconut MT and some mochi. I had the same good experience with their Coconut MT, but their mochi was overpriced and not worth it. I think it's better off to just buy the mochi packs from Asian stores. However, my last visit was sort of disappointing, and it might be because of different staff making the drinks. My Taro MT tasted like sugar water, without any hint of the tea. Still, I will come back here and try the rest of their drinks and look forward to them. read more

The pandan jelly is the star of the show. It is chewy and compliments nicely the coconut juice or milk. Quick tip: if you substitute coconut juice for coconut milk in some drinks, it's an extra dollar. This boggles my mind that a simple substitution request would cost more. I tried the Real Fruit iced tea - Passionfruit with rainbow jellies. I got a Large size, and it was by far the best iced tea I've ever had. It was delicious and refreshing. I'd never had a tea with jellies before...only the tapioca pearls/boba and it was such an awesome change! I felt that the prices were comparable to other places too. No complaints. I love Bambu so much. My boyfriend and I are willing to drive 40 min without traffic or an hour with traffic just to get Bambu. We've gone at least 5 to 6 times and the first 5 visits, they accepted the punch card - buy 10, get 1 free. However, they discontinued it. Luckily they gave us our one free drink since we were close to getting it. I'd say 90% of our visits was very satisfying. The drinks were made perfectly. My boyfriend loves the Traditional Viet Coffee and gets it all the time. I love the Taro Lover and I've always gotten it. The reason for the 10% dissatisfied visit is due to the bad service and the way they made the drinks. We ordered a Viet Coffee with less ice however, we ended up with no ice and 75% of the drink. Where did my 25% go?! I asked them to put ice in the cup and they added ice and a bit of espresso and that melted the ice. All I really wanted was ice to fill up the cup and to make the drink cold... That same day, I ordered Taro Lover and the pandan jelly was really hard. Was very disappointed. We've been back hoping that it'll be amazing and each time we've been back, we've been satisfied. Absolutely the best place to get boba in southeast Michigan hands down. As someone who grew up needing to drive to Ann Arbor for Bubble Island, this place completely blows any other place out of the water. The boba is the exact consistency that it should be. You can't go wrong with anything, whether it's a milk tea, a smoothie, or one of the dessert drinks. I've been to Bambu locations out on the west coast so I was super excited to have one open not too far from me. One thing I wish this Bambu did that the other locations do is to have a punch card. I definitely pour enough money into this shop to get a free drink every so often. I didn't find it to be a big deal, but my sister ordered a taro milk two with mango jellies, lychee jellies, and boba in it since she couldn't decide and thought it was all free. It turns out that any more than two add-ins is $0.50 more. WOW. I am happy. Out of the suburban wasteland of metro Detroit rises Bambu, a haven of delicious bubble tea (with crystal boba!!!!) and ché and smoothies and avocado flavored drinks??! The boba here is just as good as some Bay Area favorites. There are a few TINY things I could gripe about - ice / sugar customizations weren't directly shown, although I wouldn't be surprised if the staff would accommodate your preferences if you asked. This is my go to spot for bubble tea when I'm in the Madison Heights area. Friendly staff. Clean interior albeit somewhat small (can maybe fit 10-12 people inside). Their menu size is impressive with different types of bubble teas, che's (sweet vietnamese dessert beverage), coffees and smoothies. It's a good casual spot to shoot the breeze with a friend or get a nice, refreshing drink to go. Be warned: this place is absolutely packed during the summer, so expect longer wait times or go during non peak hours typically early mornings or late afternoon/evenings to skip the wait. The different toppings and drinks can be overwhelming so if you're new to the world of bubble tea, I would recommend getting the classic black milk tea with boba as a starting point or you can go crazy and get something like a durian smoothie if you really have no soul, but no judgment here ;) My favorite drink is the matcha blended tea with boba. I get it with 50% sugar as normal sugar is just a little too sweet for my taste. I keep coming back because the drinks taste fresh and boba quality is good (chewy with a soft center). Some other bbt chains have a kind of subtle synthetic taste to their drinks but I don't get that taste at bambu. A little pricier than some other bbt places but quality is definitely there. I was pleasantly surprised when the fantastic staff member, Alexis, allowed me to sample the Boba as well as a few other flavors of tea and I became ecstatic to realize it's absolutely scrumptious! The Boba is soft, chewy, and slightly sweet. It tastes freshly made. The drinks are a perfect balance to this sweet tapioca treat. I loved the Jasmine Green Milk Tea as well as their regular black milk tea. I decided to go with the Thai Tea which is made fresh from the tea leaves, not the powder other places mix together and present.
