My wife & I just thoroughly enjoyed our first visit here. Sharing everything, we tried the fresh rolls, kimchi dumplings, tom yum soup (tofu - med spicy), & pad see ew (shrimp - med spicy). 15 degree weather also called for hot green tea. Everything was delicious. The soup was a little spicier than what we'd consider medium and the pad see ew was not spicy at all, but terrific anyway. Service was excellent. Bamboo is a really cute little place with great decor and service to go along with the tasty food. The name of the place was definitely taken into account when decor was selected - or perhaps it's the other way around? Bamboo is all over the little restaurant, covering the walls, forming an awning, making up the decorations... combined with the many potted plants, there's something of a tropical feel to the place. However, the way things are laid out is also very elegant. Chic even. Overall, it's a very nice atmosphere and good for anything from a night out with the girls, a date, or just a good meal with the family. As to the food itself, Bamboo has both a Thai and Vietnamese menu. Neither is particularly extensive, but there are plenty of interesting options. There are definitely some interesting sounding appetizers, desserts (sweet potato bites? Mm), and salads, along with a host of teas, iced coffees, and the like. Do be sure to mozy up to the bar area to look at the specials which are written on a wipe board. I did not see it til later, which was a little sad since there were some very interesting things. However, my gang keawan (green curry with onions, bamboo shoots, green beans and basil) was quite good... if a bit salty... Interestingly, there is no pork available as a meat option for the dishes. Instead, one can choose from chicken, beef, fish, shrimp, or tofu. In this case, I opted for chicken, which was quite tender, and served in large slices or chunks. The curry itself, meanwhile, did not appear to incorporate too much coconut milk, and was thus not as sweet as you find in some places. Fine by me. As I said, it was also a little salty, but overall I thought it tasted pretty good, especially when paired with the delightfully chewy rice. Also, let me note that this whole meal came out fast. I had only managed to glance at my email and was still skimming my twitter feed when the waitress returned with my order. ...that's impressive given I do not follow a lot of people or receive many emails. Anyways, service as a whole was really quick and attentive, not to mention polite and friendly. Really impressive. ...and...forgive my girlishness, but the bathroom has some very nice touches. More of that fun decor with a huge bromiliad and one of those glass sinks... and hand lotion which, silly as it sounds, always makes me grin. It's a nice little perk. Prices are about average for this sort of food... a little higher if you order the shrimp. Not horrible, though. Overall, Bamboo is certainly worth giving a try if you are in the area and want a quick but tasty meal in a nice environment. read more

As far as Thai food goes it wasn't bad but it also wasn't great either. Staff was friendly but at times almost overwhelming to where is was difficult to have a steady conversation with the better half. She got the Tamarind Duck and it tasted fine to us but my Pad Kee Mao tasted like it was cooked in a wok the seriously needed the built taste cleaned out of it. The place usually quite busy on the weekends with lots of carryout orders, perhaps they cant handle the traffic. But the food is hands down one of the top 3 thai food we have had. This use to be my go to Pad Thai place, I lived close and would come at least once a month. Since I moved I haven't been able to come as often, so when I was in the area yesterday I was excited to order my favorite, walking in I could see the décor had changed and I noticed different servers from usual. Apparently the restaurant was under new ownership but I hoped the food would be the same. I was disappointed in my Pad Thai it didn't have the rich flavors I was used to. The worst viet/thai food restaurant in columbus. Having the steepest price for viet/thai food,(almost every entree over 10$), all i can taste from food is MSG MSG MSG. It tastes nothing like real thai/viet food, not to mention super bland. I felt so terrible coming out from this place of the thought that our group wasted so much money on crappy food. Bamboo Cafe is the only place in Columbus where I've found Thai food I've liked. They use the right kind of Thai soy sauce and broccoli (accept no substitutes) and the prices are reasonable. The Pho is also quite tasty, though I always seem to end up defaulting back to Pad See Ew. The portions are a bit on the small side, but it doesn't stop me from going back. read more

Honestly, I was looking for another Vietnamese place when I accidentally wandered into this gem. The restaurant is very cozy and the servers were very sweet. I thought the thatched roof was a bit kitschy but I thought they did an amazing job decorating the smaller space to feel warm and welcoming. As for food, the place offers Thai and Vietnamese food. I got the veggie dumplings and pho tai, coupled with a tall glass of thai iced tea (weird combo I know but I can't turn down thai iced tea). The dumplings were perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and delicious on the inside. The pho tai had a very good broth and didn't skimp on the meat or toppings. I thoroughly enjoyed it after a cold rainy day out and about. I ended the meal with some green tea ice cream, which was very yummy. Portions were great, food was fresh and comforting. I had a soup (not a pho) that was probably the best soup I have ever had, in fact I did not even know that a soup can be that good. It was the one with coconut milk in it. The prices are great, too. $40 for sunday lunch for 3. Service is fantastic, quick, I dont even know how they can cook 3 vastly different dishes in such a short time and everything is obviously very fresh. I've been here twice and my food the first time was a 4 this time a 3 so since 3.5 isn't an option I'm going with a solid 3. I love pad woon sen, something about those glass noodles really rocks my socks. The first time we dined in, everything came quickly in and was flavorful. I love spicy food, asked for a level 8 and they really spiced it to that level. the noodles were good and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. The Thai Iced Tea like always was a hit. I ordered a second time for carryout and while everything was good the meal fell flat. It was NOT spicy at all and the flavor was just ok. I ordered this take out from Postmates last night and was really craving some Thai food. This food was most definitely the best meal I've had in a longggg time! There food was still hot and so fresh when it arrived. My sister and I ordered a mix of a much a different food. Everything we got was so fresh tasting and so flavorful. Tasted like they had just made it! I am vegan so I asked for some apical instruction to take the egg out and explained I'm vegan. I also asked for things to be a bit spicier than the normal (I love all things spicy). They were super accommodating and got my whole order right! I'm so impressed this place is such a hidden gem and I'm so glad I found this place through Postmates! Also I am a veggie Enthusiast I know a fresh good veggie from a veggie that's been sitting out and old. These veggies were spot on so fresh and cooked perfectly! great food, very nice atmosphere and the service is so friendly. Since my first review I have made this my go-to Thai restaurant. I eat there about once/month (usually carryout). I love the curry fried rice special (which never appears on the menu), the curries, the bulgogi (very flavorful beef with a nice selection of sides). The satay appetizer is ginourmous and enough for an entire meal if paired with a salad. Tod Mun is interesting and meaty, but not my kind of thing. The salads are really fresh! My old favs (massaman beef, pad thai, panang fish curry,) prepared the way I grew to love them, are not to be found here, nor anywhere else in Columbus it seems. This was my first time trying this restaurant out. As I walked in it was very nicely decorated and pleasing to the eye. A place that you would want to go back just for the decor. We were seated promptly, but that's where the pleasant experience ended. The service was HORRIBLE. It took more than 5 minutes to get our water, another 10 minutes for him to take our order and it took forever to get our check. Then we asked for a container to take home the Pho that we could not finish. The server that waited on us walked away like we bothered him , eyes rolled and as he got behind the counter he sighed very loud so we could hear him. At this point I was livid. I have never experienced such poor service EVER. I talked about the service, now I'll talk about the food. This restaurant is a Thai/Vietnamese restaurant. They offer a decent selection of food although I was looking for Vietnamese sandwiches they did not serve that, however they had the Pho that I was also craving. Our order consisted of Thai egg rolls, Chicken Pad Thai, a combo Pho, and chicken Pho Ga. The food was absolutely delicious and some of the items on the menu are way over priced. The red curry dish I had here was super delicious!! Do not let the strip mall where this gem is located scare you away! The interior is delightful and the restroom was top notch! There was a wicker or rataan chair in the men's room and I thought about sitting down to relax. Very friendly staff as well. The location is very nondescript being stuck in the corner of a strip mall. It's also hidden behind a fast food joint from the main road (Bethel rd). Much like Christine D, I was initially reluctant to check this place out but I'm glad I did. Their pho is one of the best in Cbus imo. It's a little bit pricey ($8-10 and up I believe) but it's good... Plus they're not skimpy with limes like Ha Long Bay lolz. Interior is pretty cool with many many bamboo pieces. Haven't tried their appetizers or Thai food as they seemed a little too expensive... I think a normal Thai dish was like $15-20. Cmon now. So my final verdict is: Good but pricey. They don't take credit card for amount under $10 so beware. read more

STAY AWAY IF YOU HAVE DIETARY RESTRICTIONS (VEGAN/VEGETARIAN OR FOOD ALLERGIES)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I called and asked if their Pad Thai was prepared with fish ingredients because I am a strict vegetarian and I know Pad Thai usually has fish sauce but most places can prepare it with a vegetarian sauce instead. They told me there was no fish sauce in their Pad Thai, so I ordered it. I thought that was unusual, so I called back another time and asked the same question, and they told me there is indeed fish sauce in the dish. I complained that they had served me a non-vegetarian dish when I specifically asked for a vegetarian dish. I received no apology. Good thing I do not have an allergy, or I would have been really screwed. I would at least expect an apology for the mistake, but they really didn't seem to care. read more

I'm a recent first-time visitor, just happened to be there by chance. I had to wait for a couple of minutes to get somebody's attention and was seated in a corner. The place appeared to be busy and a little too dingy for comfort. I ordered the chicken pho - the waitress at my table (the one with short hair who apparently speaks good English!) didn't appear to be very friendly. She just delivered my order and never attended to my table afterwards. I saw her repeatedly attending to a nearby table that had a bunch of people and never even bothered to look in my direction. It was obvious to me that she was discriminatory and giving preferential treatment to certain customers! As for the pho itself, it was nothing to write home about - the broth was somewhat bland and the chicken tasted stale (the kind of processed meat that is regular fare at the Asian restaurants). I made it a point to complain to an older lady (maybe the owner) about the poor service I received. She gave pathetic excuses claiming that the waitress was busy blah blah...She didn't do anything to lift my mood as she didn't obviously care much... But, I do care about not patronizing such discriminatory establishments that serve only certain "groups" of people. Such restaurants are pretty commonplace in Columbus and I wouldn't support any of them. People who think Columbus is a "cool" city are obviously living in a fool's paradise! read more

So, I was reeeeaaaally in the mood for some Vietnamese food and happened upon Bamboo Thai while running some errands. After reading a few reviews (thank you fellow reviewers), checking out the menu and of course viewing a few pics of the food, my tastebuddies said YES! The inside: The restaurant is fairly small and cozy. Seating options are okay...standard 2-4 seats per table but no booths for large parties. Pictures of some of the items on the menu line the walls. Single person restrooms are in the back but, there are also storage boxes against the walls making the walk area a little smaller. FYI**Warm air/Heat and Hot water are basically non existent in the women's restroom, so use it fast and bring hand sanitizer to avoid the freeze out!** The food: Greeted with a smile, menus and fresh glasses of water...awesome start! Seeing as I was a first timer here, I wanted some time to go over the menu thoroughly but, not 5 mins after sitting down the very attentive server was back asking if we were ready to order. This happened a couple more times too many for my liking and in a short timeframewhich made me feel rushed to order. You know, hurry up and buy! LOL Anyway, I decided on spring rolls to start, which they call Fresh Rolls. The rice paper was dry and not fresh at all. I normally could eat about 4 spring rolls but here, I barely got through one. The entree was tamarind Duck with white rice and medium spice level...sounded perfect but, only tasted so-so. The ratio of rice to meat/veggies was uneven but I was NOT about to buy an extra side of rice that should have already been added to the bowl I already had. The flavor just wasn't that tantalizing to my tastebuddies and after the spring/fresh roll disappointment I was about over it. Overall: The restaurant was uncomfortably cold and the food was just ok. Service was pretty good, and at least the food came out hot. Bottom-line, it's not terrible since there are so few authentic Asian cuisine options in the area but there are definitely better places....if you're willing to make the drive. I love bamboo cafe! My boyfriend and I have been there 4 times. Each visit has been tops from the time we were sat until the time we walked out the door. The wait staff is always so friendly and warm! My favorite dish is the roasted duck with vegetables. It's cut up pieces of duck with a pretty big portion of rice and a few slices of tomato and cucumber. For dessert you must try the mango sticky rice! read more

This a great little restaurant! We eat the vietnamese food- steamed and fried dumplings, pho, grilled pork w vermiccli, pork that is just like tonkatsu. These dishes are as good as we've had in large cities. I don't know about the thai menu because we never have that. Please give it a try, if you have not already. read more

Lunch: My friend and I got a chicken curry dish as well as the pad kee mao with beef. For the price, I don't think the portion was worth it with the pad kee mao. I really enjoy noodles, and I felt like there were only a few large pieces in there, it was mostly vegetables. There was a only a few pieces of beef which weren't that good either. The curry was lacking in depth and the chicken in it was a bit dry. I had been here a few years back and remembered the curry being better than this time. This has been my go-to place for Thai since I've been in Columbus. That's partly because of its proximity to my home, but the flavors are on point, and they have a huge selection of items. I've tried some noodle dishes as well as some of their fried rice, and everything has been super tasty thus far.
