Pros: Restaurant was clean and servers were friendly. Food was fine. They were willing to adjust for allergies if needed. Tom yum soup was good, I got mine with seafood, however see note below. Fried tofu in noodle dish was good. Cons: service was lacking, kept having to ask for basic items, more water, serving utensils, plates, etc. Curry was very bland, it was more hot than flavorful. We order green curry and yellow curry, both were unimpressive. Normally Thai curry is our favorite and this was greatly lacking. Only slight taste and look difference between the two types of curry. We ordered all the food at a medium hot level and all dishes came out with way to much heat. The Tom Yum soup actually had our eyes watering it was so hot. Overall we were way under impressed, which was surprising since this restaurant came up on yelp as the #1 best Thai food in Columbus. Conclusion: we will not be back. read more

Ever since the first visit we have been back 3 times - all for lunch all on Saturdays. The atmosphere here is very nice, clean and never too crowded, the service fast and friendly. Today they had a samplings of Sake on a table as you walk in by the door. I tried a small sampling, for some reason I have not been much of a Sake fan, but they did have a half a dozen or so assortment of wines from Asia, like plum wine etc., you could order by the glass or a bottle. The Beef Pho is very good which is what I ordered and on today's visit I also ordered their spring roll appetizer - wife ordered the Chichen Pho. Both perfect, they also put a spice in it which we tried to figure out - was it cinnamon ... neither of what it was but it certainly does add to the rich flavor and makes it unique. This aroma is not overpowering but just enough to excite your palate and wonder what it is, very mystical. When you order the Pho they serve the basil, cilantro, jalepinos peppers, cliantro, bean sprouts and lime on a separate side plate. So if you do not care for any of those items in your Pho you don't have to add them. I noticed that other Vietnamese restaurants will add the cilantro right in with the Pho, I do like cilantro but some of my friends don't carfe for it. Today I also had a bottle of Samuel Adams beer along with my spring roll - of course not fried or baked and it was very good. I have to admit it was very good, although the slices of Jalepeno peppers we both added to the Pho were incredibly hot, today. I mean super hot - we both had water coming out of our eyes it was soo hot. Got to admit, after you burn your mouth sipping hot soup offers no relief :-( but I certainly do not blame the restaurant for that. After about 10 minutes we both had recovered and I had more peppers - this time I didn't chew them as long as I had the first batch and i wasn't bad at all. Actually, they are very good for you. I typically order the Green Curry with vegetables-spicy, fresh, and has an umami of flavors--can't quite put my finger on the deliciousness! I'm giving Bamboo Thai Kitchen a 4 but it's really more of a 3.5. Finding good Thai food in Columbus has been a mission. Since our favorite Thai restaurant (Thai Basils in Grandview) closed down, we have searched high and low for a place that could satisfy our Thai cravings. We stumbled upon Bamboo Thai Kitchen one evening and decided to give it a go. The good: the restaurant is clean, the service was pretty good, and 2/4 dishes we ordered were tasty. Specifically, the red curry and the veggie spring rolls were flavorful and well cooked. The bad: the other 2 dishes we ordered were not good. The chicken wings were the tiniest chicken wings I've ever seen and although they tasted ok, there really wasn't much flavor to them. The Pad see ew tasted...bad. The noodles were oily, and almost smoky in flavor. We will return to Bamboo Thai Kitchen but I think we'll stick to the curry dishes next time! read more

What a nice place. Small and intimate with a nice atmosphere. It's a restaurant, not a fast food joint. Service is quick and the waitress was very helpful in picking out possible choices from the menu for a newcomer. Food is fresh, nicely prepared and presented. You can have it mild or spicy as you wish, or have a small side dish of extra spice for your own personal preference. Choice of chopsticks or silverware. I don't understand a couple reviews here complaining about $10-12 prices.. I'm assuming they may be more accustomed to eating in burger joints. I went for the NON spiced as I'm a heat wimp, but my husband went for the full on spicy and it didn't disappoint either of us. Bamboo Thai restaurant has been owned by a Mother and Daughter since the summer of 2016. The lovely young woman welcomed us happily and seated us quickly. She brought us menus and water. We had trouble choosing from the many well described selections. Once we ordered it was a reasonable wait for our beautifully plated meals to arrive. Delicious!! I would have preferred more spiciness but did not wish to add Sriracha since it changes the flavor of the dish. The strip mall restaurant is nicely decorated and very clean. The general tso's was so spicy we couldn't taste it! We ordered spice for both as "medium" because we both enjoy really hot and spicy food, but spice cannot equate flavor. We were excited to try this place but it unfortunately didn't live up to our expectations. I ordered two meals for takeout and showed up 20 minutes later, as instructed, to pick them up. Turns out they forgot to write down one of our meals, so it wasn't ready. The lady working just said "sorry that was someone else who took your order." She then went back to the kitchen to ask them to rush it. Basically, I just had to wait an extra 15 minutes for our second dinner and STILL had to pay full price for our meals (which were already on the expensive side). I'm always a bit hesitant to give one-star reviews, unless I come down with some form of food poisoning, but Bamboo Cafe is an utter disappointment. Tucked to the side of Olentangy Plaza, I believe this restaurant is aptly situated: hidden from view. The menu is vastly overpriced for the quality and chintzy portions, whether it be the Vietnamese menu or the Thai menu. I am by no means Thai, but having eaten at countless Thai eateries, I know how certain dishes should be prepared. The vegetarian lad nar was one of the weakest dishes I've had in a while; cubes of tofu (that were supposedly fried) rested on a bed of a few strings of Chinese broccoli and wide rice noodles stir fried with egg. The chicken khao pad kra pow was equally pathetic; measly pieces of chicken were served with fried rice, basil leaves, and bamboo shoots. There's always a first time for everything, and this was definitely the first time I've seen bamboo shoots mixed in with fried rice. The rest of the menu is just as comical. $5 for 4 chicken wings? $4.50 for V8 juices? It behooves me to think that they best be beyond the usual. Closed Mondays. FYI. read more

Really disappointed... I went there today because I was craving Vietnamese food. The yelp reviews were very favorable so I gave it a try. I ordered the Vermicelli dish, #30 which was described as having braised pork. Yum i thought. It was $10 at lunchtime which I thought was more than I like to spend on lunch, but ok I was pretty sure it would be tasty and worth it. I stepped outside while they were making it. I go back in ten minutes as they suggested and pay the $10 and take it to my car. Ok so far so good. I go to open the container and see a huge amount of rice noodles and greens including cilantro, green onions, romaine, sprouts, which is great but only a very small amount of meat. I can't overstate this! Not only that but the pork was definitely not braised (cooked in a small amount of liquid). it was pretty dry/chewy. My parents said that the service has gotten better since last time they've visited. + My rice with pork chop ($10?) was tasty. The pork chop had a different seasoning than I'm used to, but it had a nice crunch (might be dry to others, but I think that this texture is the norm in Viet cooking) + Clean, nice-looking interior - EXPENSIVE! But my mom did say that she doesn't mind paying a few more dollars for really good, jumbo-sized shrimp in her pad thai. - Menu needs more organization. The bun thit nuong (pork with vermicelli) doesn't belong in "appetizers." I'd come back even though it's OVERPRICED (~$13 for bun thit nuong if you add eggrolls. Eeep!). I've been here twice and had excellent experiences both times. We had the same server bith times, and he was fantastic. Our water glasses were never empty and he made sure the food was spiced perfectly. The food was really good...we started with the fresh rolls...yum! I had pad thai both times and my friend had the pad kee mao. We ordered medium spicy, and that was perfect...enough kick without overpowering everything. The food was fresh, piping hot, and a good portion size. We shared the mango sticky rice for dessert the first time...it was super tasty but we were too full to finish it. Highly recommend. read more
