Cool little barbershop. Really cool guys. Once you get in, be sure to sign in on the clipboard. The atmosphere is nice, they have a small area with a couple lounge chairs, books, almost every magazine you can think of and a very large TV with the news broadcast. These guys won't hesitate to give you some direction if you're new. The one thing that you'll have to swallow is the wait time. Make sure you make enough time for you to wait. Patience truly pays off when you find the barber that's right for you. I had the pleasure of getting my haircut by Troy. I have never had a barber pay attention to detail like troy did. I been looking for some different places for my haircut so I'm glad to have found a place in one of my more favorite parts of town. I like the lounge feel but really i didn't even have to wait long. I just walked up in there and sat down. so with my perfect timing the guy kyle was a real pro which i can appreciate. he got my look down pat with improvement which was exactly what i wanted. Added bonus was a nice warm shave on my neck. May not mean much but that was a first for me so it was a pretty good cut with out much hassle. read more

Great barber shop in the heart of the city - street parking never an issue on Saturday's - reasonable wait time considering reputation and popularity. $18 for a regular cut is very fair and the 4 barbers are all good and competent. read more

Really bad haircut. I asked for a pretty simple, start with a 1 fade up to finger length on top. I told him how long it had been since my last haircut to give him some perspective. The left side top of my hair is noticeably longer than the right side top. The top towards the back he left uncut so it's significantly longer than the front. The fade on one side goes higher than the other. I asked for a beard trim and he didn't fade it into the haircut so there's just a line where it goes from short to long. I asked him to fix 2 things with the beard trim which he did. I guess I should have looked over everything in greater detail. I didn't notice a lot of it until I got home. I've had haircuts before that I didn't like, mostly because it was longer or shorter than I wanted, but I've never had one this bad. From the results, either the barber was rushing through it because it was a Friday afternoon or he wasn't trained as a barber at all. read more

From the day this place opened until I moved away from Baltimore, this was the only barber I used. I got consistently good haircuts from Kyle, Troy and one or two of the other guys who occasionally work there. Kyle is exceptionally friendly. I got a really goodhaircut here. Kyle who was the barber that helped me did a super job on my longer hair which most barber shops usually butcher! The Location is super for me, I go to Peabody and The shop being in the center of Mt Vernon works out well! Much closer than beatniks for me and more importantly I got a better haircut ! I am sold! Never again . This is the last time they get any of my money. I was given a haircut that i didnt ask for , barber just dove in shaving wherever.i had been growing my hair out specifically to get a faux hawk, not a high an tight! It was crooked , patchy,and uneven.i had to go to another barbershop and it took two..TWO barbers to fix this haircut. Im done. Also , tell people to sign in when they walk in the door. I just got a new job in the area, and wanted to find a new barber shop that was convenient. BBL had a couple of good reviews on Yelp, so I figured I'd give it a shot. GREAT haircut! Kyle (who is the only barber there at the moment) is very friendly, personable, and listens to what you want but also gives suggestions. It wasn't the longest (in duration) haircut I've ever gotten; he's very efficient but at the same time you don't feel like he's rushing. While I was there I could see that his clientele crosses racial lines, which I think is good to know. He's a super nice guy who gives a great haircut, trying to make a go of his new shop... so give him a try!! read more

The prices are good, the place is clean and comfortable, and Kyle is just about the nicest person in the city. My haircut has been perfect every time. I used to bounce around between the chain places like hair cuttery and great clips but I never really felt satisfied. This was my first time here. Nick did a great job cutting my hair. My only complaint is that the razor he used to shave my neck was really dull and tugged uncomfortably at my skin. When you get in, sign in on the sheet to know what place you are (if it's busy). You can park in front of the building from 12pm to 4pm Monday through Friday (metered parking). Parking in front from 4pm to 6pm Monday through Friday gets your vehicle towed. The opposite side of the street appears to be unrestricted metered parking.The shop is cash only. read more

Honestly the best place to get a guys haircut! Especially from Kyle - the man knows hair. For years I was a "super-cuts" or "great-clips" kinda guy, but Kyle does a better job than anyone else. I have been going to this barber shop monthly for about 2 years. All of the barbers here are very nice and easygoing. The shop is always kept clean and tidy. There is a TV to watch, or various magazines to peruse while waiting. They have DumDum lollipops in a jar. Best hair cuts I've ever gotten in my life.

I initially started coming here when I lived in Mount Vernon, and I still come here even though I now live in South Baltimore/ Fed Hill. I think Kyle does a solid and careful job, and have been very satisfied with my haircuts I've gotten here. The place can get very busy on weekends, so weekdays/ nights are best, but that's true with any barber shop. Plus, if it was empty that would likely mean it wasn't any good. Too bad we don't have a barber shop like this in SoBo. read more

This is the worst haircut I have ever had. I am really confused as to how this place earned such a high rating because it gave me the impression that I would receive a good quality cut but instead I didn't even get an even haircut. I am literally at a loss trying to explain to myself and to every single person who has "noticed my new haircut" what happened. For the first time ever I actually took out a pair of scissors and a trimmer and tried to cut/correct my hair (On that note, I am actually impressed w my ability to cut hair - its actually pretty logical and not as daunting as might think). Anyways.. So here's what happened: I typically get my hair cut across the street at studio 7 by Aubrey who does a great job but I couldn't afford a $35 haircut right now. So instead I found this place for half the price (and apparently for just half a cut) and everyone raved, particularly about Kyle. Unfortunately he wasn't there and I had Nick - he was a pretty laid back guy. I clearly explained I wanted a trim and requested he just shorten the length by roughly 1-2cm so my hair was clean around the edges. I closed my eyes and I heard clippers going at the back of my head and I knew something was wrong cause it would have been way too short. I told myself whatever, maybe this guy isn't good w scissors so I'll stick to whatever he's comfortable with and at least get a good cut, if not the one I want. At the end of my cut, my hair is clearly 2-3 times shorter than I requested but something about it looked simply odd and I couldn't put a finger on it. I paid and went home. Thats when the commentary started and I knew it was a mess. I washed my hair and combed it flat to realize it was totally uneven. Not only was the top left awkwardly longer than the other side of my head, the front (bangs) of my hairline was about as even as the stock market tracing during the financial crash. I wasn't really upset cause i figured things happen and i don't know this barbers whole story so I'll just get it revised. I went back in the next day and asked nick for a clean up and he was cool about it. However he seemed like he was in a rush with my hair and instead of correcting what I wished he went beyond the call of duty and just buzzed the sides and said im good to go so I now look like an army recruit. I didn't even think he fixed the problem and he was already ready undoing that black sheet they cover you with. I mention that the front hairline needs to be straightened and he literally snips at it from an angle along just one side. That was the first time he grabbed for the scissors and he handled them poorly. At that moment I realized I was in a bad situation so I said it looked great to just get out. I went home and later that day at a family get together everyone took note immediately. This morning I washed my hair and combed the front bangs down and realized it was completing uneven. The right side was cut all the way up to the hairline, there were like three different sections of the hairline that came down in a jagged manner. I actually grabbed a pair of scissors and lined up the front and trimmed a little of the unevenness off. I wish I could have said it was one of those stylish uneven modern haircuts cause at least they make some sense. But to everyone who looks at it, I'm reminded by it. Ive never received this much flak for my hair and my graduation is next week. I honestly just wanted a decent, if not a great haircut. What I ended up with was the worst haircut of my life story. read more

I've gone here twice now for a hair cut, and I've had generally good to great experiences. The feel of the shop is nice, simple, and not intimidating. Kyle does a good job to make it as welcoming as it should be. I asked for a fairly specific hair cut, though still relatively simple to execute (to the point where I've been able to do it myself with some effort). He really went above and beyond- made precision and detailed cuts, worked quickly, and gave me exactly what I wanted. Probably the best hair cut I've ever had.
