Kyle gives a good cut. Each time I've gotten him, I've been happy, particularly for the price which isn't expensive. Basically everyone else in the shop I won't let touch my hair again. Recently got a cut where I was asked for a length for the sides, and then he cut my whole head that length, along with leaving the center of the top weirdly high. Had I asked for a Mohawk, this would be mediocre, but considering I was trying to just get a trim it is without exaggeration the worst haircut I have ever gotten. This is the second time I've let someone who wasn't Kyle cut my hair, and the previous time was awful, but not the actual worst haircut I'd ever received. Won't be going back. read more

My wife brought my son here a long time ago (perhaps before COVID?) and again just a few weeks ago. I should have written sooner, but alas it got away from me. This place is the absolute best! They treated him (6 years old now) with the same level of attention and respect as any customer, and gave him the BEST haircut he has ever had, twice! The first time, they even sent him home with a really cool Star Wars shelf figurine of Chewbacca that he still has, and cherishes... which was just over the top! The second time, they turned off whatever they were watching on the TV and put something for him on, again super nice! I have super long hair myself, and haven't had a cut in 4+ years, but if I ever change my tune, I will definitely come here! And my son will be coming back for every single cut! read more

My last week here, I had to get a haircut before leaving. I've tried out two other places here in Baltimore, and I was looking for variety. I looked up this place on my Yelp app, so I made my way over here. I walked in, and there were no customer ahead of me. The barber took me right away. He was a very friendly person, and we had a good conversation as I got my hair cut. He did a good job on my hair, which is impressive because my hair is hard to get right. He did it in good time too. I paid him the $18 plus tip. I hung out on the lounge area (pictured) while I waited for my Uber. As I made my way out, I was greeted warmly. I noticed that an influx of people came in here as I was leaving. So I lucked out by coming at the right time. This is a pretty good shop, I would recommend them. read more

This review includes both Kyle and Nick. Kyle is great, one of the best men's haircutters in Baltimore in my experience. Skilled, attentive, wants you to end up with a good haircut. Nick is one of the worst haircutters I've ever seen. 2nd worst haircut of my life. I'm not sure if it's because he doesn't care (10 minutes of clippers and tries to get you out) or he's incompetent or some mix of the two. When I had to cut my own hair during COVID, it came out much better than Nick's cut. I would not recommend Nick unless you just need something like a shave or a buzz - even then, I'd recommend you put your money towards clippers and start doing it yourself. The guy does not care at all, just onto the next. He should not be professionally cutting hair. read more

After moving to Baltimore a little over one year ago, I have been dying to find a great haircut. No joke, it got to a point where I was getting my hair cut in other states while traveling for work because I was fed up with mediocre, overpriced service at places in Highlandtown, Towson, or Canton (just to name a few -- check my tips for Chicago if you ever need a good haircut there!). This place is clean and they have a very comfortable waiting area complete with HDTV as well as some magazines. If you are a bicycle rider like me, the location is perfect -- just a few minutes ride at the edge of Mt. Vernon. There's even a few places right out front to lock up! Ask for Troy -- he did an amazing job and was very tedious whilst providing amiable conversation. In fact, upon receiving news that it's cash only (which is what helps keep their prices rock bottom), Troy even let me leave without collateral to run a few blocks up the street to take money out of the ATM!! One of the few places open on Monday, as long as I continue to live in Baltimore, I finally have a barber! read more

I'll confess, I'm usually not the kinda dude to hit up barbers in Baltimore - last time I did, I got a weird white boy fade. Thankfully, this place has changed my mind entirely. Baltimore Barber Lounge is a nice barbershop in the northern Baltimore area, which makes it rather convenient. It's right on the street and features no parking - which seems to be an issue, considering the number of signs in the place warning you about where not to park lest you get towed - but that's normal for the area. Everything is nice and definitely manly, though not in the sort of pandering "I'm a sports barber" sort of way. The haircut I got, which was for $17, was quite good. The barber spent a significant amount of time perfecting the clipper cut on the sides, which was very much welcome - it shows he actually gave a crap. In terms of use of tools, this place definitely errs on the side of using clippers instead of scissors, which is perfectly fine by me. I'd definitely go back. read more

Baltimore Barber Lounge has been my go-to place since I moved in close by almost 2 years ago. The shop is welcoming and friendly and clean. I've had my hair cut by Kyle (the owner) and by Nick, and both of them are super talented barbers who are personable and kind and fun to talk to while they do your hair. This barbershop has modern decor with old fashioned great service and charm. Kyle, the owner, is very friendly and takes pride in his haircutting craft. He'll work with you to find what style you're looking for and really succeeds in making getting your haircut an experience, rather than simply an errand that needs to get done. After your haircut they also use a straight razor and hot shaving cream to clean up your neck line, which is great because it keeps it looking sharp longer. It's the kind of place you know you'll get a top notch cut by people who will actually remember who you are. For all this at a very affordable price, why would you go anywhere else? Personally, I also find that many barbers struggle to work with my asian hair, it's really stiff and thick. But Kyle was able to get it looking great and it turned out way better than your average buzz the sides / clip the top cut. You could tell that he cared about the quality of his work and wanted to build a good relationship with his clients. This barbershop is one of those great places that makes the normally mundane, an experience worth your time. Yeah, everyone needs to get your haircut, but that doesn't mean it has to a chore that you don't look forward to. I tried this place out off a recommendation from a friend. There were a handful of other people when I went, which I always assume is a good thing. Troy was my barber and man, did he do a great job! He took his time, chatted things up, and made sure I got what I wanted. Going right back next week to get trimmed up. The place isn't huge, but has a good feel to it. Would give 0 stars if I could. My usual barber was booked up so i decided to take a chance here based on the solid reviews. My hair is asymmetric and NOT ON PURPOSE. my sides are totally uneven, which i could only really see when I got back home. I went during the day time and only Phuong was there, so I can't comment on the other folks. In any case, he was exceedingly quiet and noncommunicative. I did my best to explain to him what I want up front but throughout the cut he just "dove in" and more or less did what he wanted, which was quite different than what I had requested originally. But that's not the worst: throughout the cut he had me face the further mirror so I couldn't really see what he was doing with any detail. I think twice he held a hand mirror (held shaky so I couldn't really see). I wasn't expecting the perfect cut since I felt him do the opposite of what i asked in the back right when he started, but I didn't expect that one side of my head would be noticeably longer than the other but...thats what I got... Similar to the other reviewer I'm not a big fan of getting haircuts. I just hate having to describe how i want what ultimately is a very simple standard haircut. This means it really works well to have a local neighborhood barber to goto. You just don't have to explain yourself over and over. Kyle (the guy who owns the place) is a good guy, and he provides a decent haircut. Its not the best haircut I've had, but its also not the worst by a long shot. The prices are very reasonable, and his hours are great. I would recommend avoiding the busiest hours (e.g. saturday) because I think he gets pretty overloaded. I know he calls in some help for saturdays, but it still sounds quite busy. I stick to monday or tuesdays after work. The place is well kept up, clean, and pleasant. He has ample reading material, and a TV to keep you entertained while you wait. I'll keep going here for my haircuts. I like the place and its also great to support your neighborhood barber. I prefer this over supporting "big hair" and their political agenda. read more

My guy used to go to Supercuts for a metrosexual cut. I met him that way, we fell in love that way... whatevs... Then... one day... he had to walk to a barber for a haircut due to his broken car. My man came back a MAAAAUUNNN! It was a trendy and masculine cut. Yummo I am very happy with the results. This place is great. Cheap cuts ($16 you-call-it), friendly staff and a teevee playing the news. The staff is very knowledgeable and will work with you even if you can't properly articulate what you want ("like, a little long on top and shorter on the sides, but still enough to, you know?). Just be prepped, they only take cash. Bonus: three of the four barbers cut your hair facing out, away from the vanity or whatever. You can still see yourself in the mirror stretching across the back of the shop, but for someone that gets sick of staring at their own mug for a whole cut, it is a great situation. read more

I used to go to the Beatnik Barbershop, which is in the same neighborhood, but I finally gave up on the inconsistency and turnover among the barbers. For me, Kyle is better. He takes enormous pride in his work. He's friendly and very consistent with his work. He uses other barbers on a parttime basis, but all of them I've tried are also very good. Lke BB, this is a walk-in business. Be aware that if you come on a Saturday you may need to wait a very long time. Kyle has you write your name down on a list and you can leave and come back if you want. Weekdays are definitely easier. I'll be coming here for some time to come. The cuts are consistent and high quality. Kyle is cool to touch base with on a regular basis. It's everything I want or need in a barbershop. read more

I've always asked for a low/medium skin fade and each time the barbers cut it right instead of giving me a dreaded high & tight haircut (which I hate!). I recently moved back to baltimore after a 2 year hiatus and decided to finally get my haircut. I used to always go to beatnik barbershop because it provided a decent cheap haircut. I like the vibe there and the guy that owns it is an interesting dude. But, I felt the quality was a little inconsistent. While I never got a terrible haircut there I did get a few subpar ones. So in moving back I decided to see what else was out there. BB lounge had some good ratings on yelp so I decided to check it out. The other reviewers are right, Kyle is a really nice guy, that really tries to cut your hair how you like it. He ended up cutting my hair exactly how I wanted it, even though i was trying something different. $15 and my hair is looking nice. I'll return, for sure. For those who are looking for an alternative to the beatnik shop, check out Kyle's place. He's a really nice guy who seems to give a great cut. I love this place. I bounced around from one barber shop and salon to the next until I finally walked around the corner and gave this place a shot. As with anyone who cuts your hair, you probably can't expect a perfect cut the first time. You'll need to go a few times and develop a good relationship with your barber. That's what I've done with this place, and I'd never trust anyone else with my hair except Kyle unless I had no other option. Kyle has listened to me over the course of five or six haircuts and I'm extremely happy with the job he's done. The prices here are extremely fair and the atmosphere can't be beat. All the barbers greet each customer with a warm welcome as they step down into the cozy lounge. Walked in today for a haircut. My office is 4 blocks away but my commute is over an hour so getting home in time to see the barber is tough. The place is clean and the two guys working (Nick and Sean) were friendly and engage to talk with. My haircut was spot-on and the price was right. There was a 5 minute wait.
