This is no ordinary barbershop. I went here for about a year because it was convenient to my house. Then I moved across the city. I tried a few other barbers/hairdressers over the next few months. They were all either more expensive, slower, or lower quality (and in some cases, all of the above). After about 5 haircuts like that, I went back to Fed Hill Barbershop and immediately got a seat, got a perfect haircut in under 10 minutes, and only got charged $20 (somehow their prices haven't gone up since COVID and all this inflation). On Monday, July 10th I got a haircut. I had been there twice before with a good experience. The latest one was not so much. My haircut was ok & I paid and even gave a tip. But the lady was unfriendly. I guess I committed the sin of engaging in the slightest of conversation (such as how are you, etc). In response I was met by a cold stare and silence. This was my first time going there and quite frankly I wasn't sure if I explained what I wanted in enough detail. The woman who cut my hair was done in maybe 15 minutes and other then me asking to cut a little bit more off the top (personal preference) everything was spot on. First time here, Tina cut my hair. I sit down and ask for a little trim, as I show her the length I want my hair cut she rudely cuts me off and says "I know." Thats cool shes a mind reader. I then get home and realize she butchered my hair line shaving way past it. I guess "I know" meant "I know you want to look like Charlie Sheen in Major League." If I could give less stars I would. So yesterday I was looking at barbershops in the area and I saw some good reviews on this place with a few bad ones. Since they had the highest rating I had seen, I decided to give them a shot. Absolute waste of time. Upon arrival there was barely any greeting. As I began to explain the haircut that I wanted, I was cutoff with, "what size guard". Told her wanted a little more than skin. Just as she was about to start, I requested a hard part once complete. Thankfully she hadn't began, since she told me she doesn't do hard parts. I told her well that is what I wanted and she said, "No", and very rudely asked if I would still be getting my hair cut. I said no and got up and left. Seriously do not understand how a place that claims to be a Barber Shop cannot or WILL NOT do a hard part. This is a very common style I have. This barber is terrible and I really don't understand the positive reviews. The woman didn't use a guard on the side of my head so it's almost skin now and absolutely butchered the top of my head. I asked for just a little off the top which apparently means 2 inches off the left side and none off the right side here. When I asked the barber correct it they proceeded to cut even more off the short side. Had to tell the barber multiple times to stop making the already short hairs shorter. They don't listen to what you say at all and don't know how to correct mistakes. The haircut was also incredibly painful because the lady was digging the clipper blades into my scalp the entire time. Every 6 to 8 months the other half mandates that I groom the mop-on-top with the intention of remaining socially tolerable. Remind me to thank her for that. Stopped in this barbershop last Saturday around 2PM. It is located on Light Street just off of Key Highway so very accessible to both downtown and Fed Hill residents alike. I drove, and there was ample street parking (approximately a buck an hour via the pay-and-display machines). As I was walking up I noticed that the shop had about 6 total customer seats, each filled by a young male, and two female Asian barbers tending to the customers currently receiving service. I was a little dismayed by this ratio assuming that it would create a long wait time for service, but I took the last seat anyway because, well, it had been mandated. After sitting down and gauging my surroundings, I noticed various time-passing activities were available. CNN was being broadcasted through a wall-mounted flat screen. Magazines - including PlayBoy and Maxim! - found residence on end tables and empty seats. I settled right down and unashamedly went for the Playboy. There were only men present so I did not fear any judgment in openly perusing the folds. Within 20 minutes, the two barbers had cut the hair of the entire queue. They were extremely efficient with very little small talk. The customers appeared satisfied during the "show phase" of the haircut (the culminating moment when you are spun in your swivel chair and mirrors suddenly appear to show you what your upper neck actually looks like). After I received my cut, I too was satisfied. The barber on the right-hand side of the shop cut my hair (name escapes) and finished the cut with a straight razor for the back of the neck. I asked her to "clean it up, but keep it long" and she accomplished this request with the tact of master. I'd say the cut took 15 minutes tops, and I was out of there in about 40 minutes all-in. Unless there is a line out the door, you'll never need over an hour in your meter if visiting this shop. And finally on price, $15 bucks. Notably, this business is CASH ONLY, so don't be the guy that has to run to the bank post-clip. Seems like a fair price for prompt, professional service. If I still live in this city when I am next due, I will be sure to visit again. read more

Tina said OK...and I walked out of there (literally) dancing! Such a nice gal, listened to what I wanted, and gave me such a cute cut. I would return over and over if I lived in the area. No frills barber shop. For those of you, like myself, that typically only have an idea of how you want your hair to turn out, this is the place for you. Knowledgeable barbers go to work on your hair. Not much in the way of conversation, but they focus on their task, which is making you look good. After the cut, there is a warm lather straight razor cut. Great cut, and price for the area. Fast, and cheap ($15 is on the low range that you'll find in Baltimore). No frills, but then again, I'm used to traditional men's haircuts, so I've never thought it prudent to pay much more than $20 for my haircut when it all looks the same at the end. I got the worst haircut of my life at this place, and that's saying something because I'm an old guy. I was going to cuss out the barber but it would not have been very satisfying because her English language comprehension ability is severely limited. Simply put, I love this barber shop. I get my hair cut about every three weeks and have been going here for over 7 years. I have changed hair styles over the years and they have always given me the best haircut. From buzz cuts with a nice fade to a longer professional cut, I always walk out happy. Its even worth the 45 minute drive now... usually accompanied by a nice walk around the harbor. read more
