I had a really great experience with Marvin, when I first arrived I wasn't expecting much and looked very underwhelming from the outside but once I got inside and started talking to him I was immediately impressed, his office was really cool and he had a lot of intresting equipment laying around Marvin is extremely knowledgeable and knows what he's doing and took the time to really walk me through everything he was doing and explain things in a way which made sense, he was also very kind and understanding throughout the whole process while I was there and to top of it all off when I arrived he was helping somebody out over the phone, and he was taking the time to walk through their issues for free, which I thought said a lot about the kind person he is and the customer service he provides He also showed me his soldering equipment and other computer related stuff which was honestly very intresting. I got to learn a lot of cool and unique stuff that I wasn't expecting at first glance and also got to see a sick 3090 card on his desk which was amazing As for the actual service his prices were very reasonable and we needing a specific part that he didn't have on hand, so instead of making me figure out myself or smth similar he ordered the part and got the next day shipping without charging me extra which I really appreciate Overall, Marvin is an amazing guy, very knowledgeable and knows what he's doing so don't worry about trusting him with your stuff he's very smart, and easy to talk to so much so we had amazing conversation and stories to tell till the end of my visit and definitely learnt some stuff and would absolutely would love to come back again for any future repairs or anything of that. If I could rate it a zero star I would! Marvin is an absolute fraud who also is very unprofessional! Linked down blow is a video of Marvin telling me to go "f myself" after just calling to ask for an estimate of my personal device he had in his care. This man is an absolute Fraud and is likely to break what he touches!!!! I went in to see if Marvin could read the data from an hard drive. He agreed to the service, pulled out an adapter and plugged up my old drive and my new drive (For the data dump). He agreed to the service of transferring my data. As the computer was calculating how much time it would take I asked him the price for this service and he said $200. I politely told him that I didn't have $200. I was expecting to pay $50-$75. Why? Because the last time I was there he charged me $50 to trouble shoot and change out the RAM in my computer. That took an hour! He got mad and said it would be $100 for him telling me that my drive was readable. What the hell!?! When I asked him for my drives back he got upset and aggressive. He made it seem like I was trying to get the secret sauce on how to read the hard drive so that I can go and to do it myself. I could have and should have asked GPT how to do it. I didn't want to do it myself but I also wasn't going to pay $200 for the service. There's no clear pricing ANYWHERE. When I asked him why it's this much he said "I shoot off the hip because this isn't Best Buy". Is Marvin great at what he doe? Yes. Does his system need to change and be more consistent? Absolutely. Marvin Ballard is very easy to deal with. He listens patiently and is extremely knowledgeable about computer issues. Within the first 10 minutes of looking into my laptop, he identified a problem that has been causing me grief for the past 6 months (since the guys from Geek Squad at Best Buy installed a new hard drive & installed Windows 10, BUT they neglected to also install/update the driver for my touch pad.) My touchpad became so weird and frustrating that I was ready to get a new laptop. But Marvin fixed my touchpad issue and also found SO MANY of my photos that the Geek Squad said they transferred to my new hard drive (but the photos DID NOT transfer over and I was heartbroken about that). But again, Marvin fixed that too by finding all the photos (still residing on my OLD, corrupted hard drive) and transferring them to my new hard drive! He also told me about a great anti-virus program (Malwarebytes), and a photo-duplication program (MindGems) which is efficient and easy to use, and will free up SO MUCH space (as I have a cray-cray duplicate photo situation that I haven't been able to get control of until now). I needed to get the hinges on my laptop replaced. I took it to a place called Computer Express on E 82nd where they charged me $45 to even look at it...now the $45 went towards the cost of the repair had i chosen to get it repaired there, but they also told me the part they had to get only came from China and that it would be around the 1st week in Aug to before I got it back (i took it to them on 7.13.23), and that it also would cost me $350 to repair. I took it to Ballard and he had it back to me on 7.18.23 for $100 bucks cheaper! And then he gave me an additional discount because the part he ordered was the wrong color. I love that he tracked down the mistake and owned his part...I LOVE when business owners do that! After my review I realized up until that point the only thing that was not fuctional was the on off button. I realized afterwards that my Internet stopped after it was worked on. When I went back I was told it was a throw away. Despite on my email it stopped working exactly at the same time he worked on it. When my MacBook fell and my screen went black, I went through the normal stages: panic, scouring the web for answers, and going to the Apple Store. Apple directed me to Mac Experience, who wanted to charge me something like $70 just to run diagnostics (after a few days on a shelf), plus the cost of repairs. That's a lot of time & money to pay if you don't even know if your computer can be repaired. Pass. That was when I found Ballard Computes on Yelp. I sent an email around midnight and woke up the next morning to a reply! I was out with friends and dropped my phone. The screen completely shattered and it was in an Otterbox!
