Date of visit: May 30, 2025 All of the Bakers Square locations in the Milwaukee area have long since closed, much to my husband's chagrin. As such, we try to stop here on our way back from O'Hare since this seems to be the closest one now to us. Given how quiet it is, I can't imagine that this location will stay open too much longer; very few tables on a Friday night. We were greeted warmly and lead to a worn out booth directly next to another table (if the joint is empty, why not give us a one booth cushion?). Staff was friendly and relatively attentive and the prices were quite good--especially for Chicago. The food was just okay; my Honey Mustard Wrap was sloppily assembled and difficult to eat. I actually would have preferred there to be a little less food in it so it wasn't so awkward to eat. My friend's "steak" was really ground beef not steak, which was odd. They don't have coconut cream pie anymore, just coconut meringue which was just okay. read more

01/22/25 - We came here because I got a $10 gift card for my birthday. What we didn't realize is Wednesday is free pie day if you buy a meal & a drink. (No wonder there are so many people here) My wife ordered avocado toast w/a fruit bowl as a side. I ordered the skillet w/bacon, sausage, ham, potatoes, onions, peppers & cheese sounds good but unfortunately it was pretty mediocre. Ahhh the kicker. All the employees were wearing free pie Wednesday so inquired about that & sure enough I got a free piece of caramel pecan pie that was simply delicious. There aren't many locations left in Chicago but this one near Harlem-Irving Plaza (Otherwise, known as HIP mall) is a hit! Still serving the classics such as All-American Crush burger, as well as French Silk Pie (which is to die for and my personal favorite). Service always impeccable. Maria, our waitress, always paid close attention to us and knew the menu blindfolded. Bakers Square goes way back to my childhood being the place with a "Welcome Family" ambiance. Amongst Baker's Square locations, this location is a bit better than some locations that I've visited. One of the more standout features here is the decor. This is probably renovated a bit more recently as it overall looks a bit more modern and has more seating options (especially for groups) than I've typically seen -- along with distinct sections that help to keep the noise down. Service is fairly quick and friendly, where they also utilize technology to digitally track order and accept payment. It did take a little while to get the food, but it wasn't unreasonably long (I've recently been to IHOP and Denny's which have taken longer to prepare). Food was overall fairly good and value priced. Portion sizes were generous and the flavors were exactly as I expect from Bakers Square. Some items could've come out a bit warmer, but given that they allow you to create large combos of options -- I can understand how it can be more challenging to manage everything with many small plates going out at once. Overall, a solid Baker's Square option that's good for fulfilling your cravings for delicious baked items and breakfast for dinner. read more

We came here for lunch after some errands in the area. Our food and service were both great! I had a smothered meat lovers omelet and my boyfriend had chicken fried steak. We were so stuffed so we ended up taking our pie home (Free Pie Wednesday = free slice with purchase of an entree and a drink). The man at the front (manager?) explained to us that there are only three remaining Bakers Square locations in Illinois. This location, Woodridge, and Palatine. He explained that Palatine was turned into a Village Inn and the only difference is a stronger emphasis on breakfast foods. I had a craving for breakfast food, and a trip to Bakers Square fulfilled that craving. Their 4x4 breakfast is a great deal. For $12, I ordered chocolate chip pancakes, half of a Belgian waffle, sausage, and hash browns. It was delicious and almost too much food. This is a great value. Our sever was very nice. Is this place good for groups? Yes, but ... Given advance notice, they happily accommodated our party of 13 at a large table in a semi-private nook and consented to separate checks (acknowledging this would take some time). It was lunchtime and there were already a fair number of customers when we arrived. On the negative side, there was only one server for the entire restaurant, and she also had to be busboy and cashier. Meanwhile, the guy sitting at the front desk did little more than greet and seat customers. When asked why he didn't pitch in and help, he said his job was supervisor, and per protocol it was the restaurant manager's job to assign and schedule staff. What total hogwash! (Hey, corporate management, didja know you're paying this guy to sit there and do nothing?) Oh, and the AC was on the fritz. But here's what Baker's Square did to earn 4 stars from me. First, our server "M" showed remarkable skill and resilience under pressure. She and the kitchen got all of our orders exactly right, and the diner-style food was really very good overall. My chicken fajita pita, though not quite a Rick Bayless masterpiece, was good enough that I would order it again; and the accompanying coleslaw was crisp and tangy. Most of my companions ordered basic breakfast fare. The egg dishes, bacon and pancakes earned high marks. Eggs Benedict was described as "among the very best." And of course, the pies were as enjoyable as ever. read more

We love the Asian Stir-Fry; loaded with broccoli, red & green peppers, sauteed onion, snow peas, sweet mandarins, muchrooms, rice and absolutely delicious pieces of baked chicken. The service is always good, and we love our 10% senior discount. Today, the manager, Jose Flores, noticed that the propane gas at the Walgreens across the street was on fire! He grabbed the fire extinguisher & without thinking twice, ran across the street to put out the fire that could have become an explosion causing serious damage to the community's Walgreens. He is one of those "Silent Heroes!" So, good food, good service, and a manager like Mr. Jose Flores, that definitely goes beyond the call of duty! I went with my best friend and niece for a late sit down dinner to catch up on life. Coffee and pie were still a staple. The dinners were absolutely horrible. Thrown together, wrong items of food brought to the table, no water brought to the table. I felt my seven year old niece could have made a better preparation for us. The staff was nice and trained but I feel they are limited with the quality of resources they have. This use to be a popular location for a Bakers Square on the Northwest side. It still has potential but needs an Overhaul. For a corner restaurant on a Main Street, pass it up, or just do a carry out for the pies. Wow, the size of the pie slices here is absolutely ridiculous for the price! We ordered four different slices to go, and every single one was shockingly small--nothing like the pictures in the menu. I remember when a slice of pie at Bakers Square meant a generous portion, but those days are clearly gone. Used to love coming here but the last time i went the service was terrible. We waited well over an hour for our food before walking out. The restaurant was not busy when we went so there was no reason why it should take that long for our food. When we went to leave the manager asked us if we were leaving because of the long wait for food and comped our drinks. They seem to be perpetually under staffed. You can't beat these pies. I'm only reviewing the pies. This is my favorite go to for my holiday pies. My favorite pies are the French Silk, Banana Cream Pie, and the Cherry Pie. Is Bakers Square Going out of business in St. George, Utah? The River Road 1450 South location is fairly new, but they skimp so much on the sandwiches, meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato and everything else, that it appears as though they have a cash flow problem and are trying to remedy it by cutting down on all the ingredients. Less crowded than another diner down the street so we went here on a Sunday morning. Most patrons were spread out which was good. My hubby ordered the Ultimate Skillet and I had the Reuben. My son had a kids meal. Overall the food was good. The server was good but we were never given water and at the end she disappeared for a long time before we got our check. We use to frequent this location quite regularly when we lived in the area. we moved out of state but come back often for family and friends. Tonight we decided to have dinner here. I ordered my favorite Honey Mustard Club Pita. It was awful! There was no honey in the dressing at all, just plain creamy mustard! The processed meat was terrible. Not even sure if it was turkey on it. . I ordered fruit instead of fries and the pieces were half hard and half over ripe. like they had been frozen at one time and then cut into pieces. My husband ordered his favorite, the turkey dinner. Again instead of real turkey it was all processed meat. Awful! When we asked the waiter about it he said they changed vendors and everything is different. It sure is! And we won't be going back there again. When we asked for the bill he pulled out his handheld thing and told us what the total bill was and that he would be back to collect the money. No bill, No receipt and definitely no more business from us. I can see why it was EMPTY in the restaurant at 5:15, the height of a dinner hour. read more

I don't recall the young man I spoke to, but he was extremely helpful, personable, and had great customer service skills. When I went to pick up the pie, it was already packaged and in a bag so I could pick it up quickly. Great job and great service! And, of course, the pie was excellent! Bakers Square is a really nice cozy place. We loved it! The waitress was really nice we loved the serves and the food itself was really nice. All of their staff was so knowledgeable, genuinely enthusiastic, and a complete delight! Family friendly & handicap accessible. Good place for breakfast anytime, lunch & dinner. There is a pie shop special. Good for a light meal that comes with a slice of pie. You can easily find their place in this area because they are also near to other popular place. The staff here really makes this place! We went in for take out pie slices and you couldn't ask for nicer or more welcoming people! We had the lemon meringue, pb cup, coconut cream and carrot cake. Well it's sad that this relic of a restaurant which used to be "Poppin Fresh" in the 1980s for their pies and then called "Baker's Square" in the 1990s and after is just a former shell of what it is now and struggling plus covid of last year. There are only 2 familiar locations in Chicago land. The one on North avenue on Melrose Park Illinois and then this one up here close to Harwood heights/Norridge area. I had to head up to Old orchard mall and this was along the way next to other errands I have to do after Christmas but I was shocked at how the menu now is only two pages on a piece of paper which I didn't take a picture of. Nevertheless it was between this or Thai restaurant but the traffic was really bad and I was already hungry by the time I left for some other errand all the way in Elmwood Park. So far the food is decent or good. Nothing spectacular. The waitress or server I had was attentive. It's hard to give this four stars because of the limited menu than what it used to be but other than that it was decent I started off with a bowl of chicken noodle soup and garlic bread. The garlic bread was pretty delicious. I had the teriyaki salmon but I was disappointed at how much I got in regards to salmon and its sides but it was delicious I wish they would have given a little more salmon I should have gone for the fish and chips maybe and I was in the mood for some fish dish for lunch. I am planning to finish it up with apple pie ala mode. It was a tough decision for the pies because that is what the bakers square is known for in they have very good pies. My favorites are French silk, country apple pie and coconut pie. I ended up going for apple pie and was very good. Other than that I hope Baker's Square will still be around and we'll come back from its former glory but I highly doubt that. This and I hate to compare this to Denny's and IHOP are going to disappear in the world of breakfast and the casual American dining franchises I remember in the 80s and 90s. read more
