Cute seasonal Dairy Queen in Park Ridge. This may have been the first Dairy Queen I ever saw that closes in the winter (they're open year-round where I'm from). They have the same items that pretty much every DQ has--at least as far as dairy treats go--and they also have some food items like burgers and hot dogs and whatnot. It's larger than many of the DQ's that close part of the year, as it has indoor seating, washrooms, and so on. There's also a good amount of outside bench seating as well. The parking lot is on the north side of the building and has about 10 parking spaces. When you leave, pay attention to the sign so that you don't drive the wrong way down a one-way alley. So visit here and support your local high school students! Much like so many DQ's (maybe it's in their corporate materials?) they have a large crew of high schoolers working here which I kind of love, especially when it seems like it's the first job one of them has held.

Best workers ever they are so sweet best ice cream you are the best. Service was great love the attitude.

Love their burgers and Sundays. However tonight I ordered two large fries and this is what both bags looked like. Not sure how they calculate this being a large fry. Totally disappointing.

Had the double Cheeseburger and fries combo. Pretty good prices paid under 20 for 2 meals. The cheeseburger was delicious and juicy. Definitely worth it

CHILDHOOD MEMORIES, DELICIOUS TREATS The Diary Queen always illicits childhood memories. This DQ is located on the corner of Devon at Canfield Ave., Park Ridge, IL. I ordered a medium vanilla and chocolate twist cone with rainbow sprinkles. I saw a very young girl with a vanilla cone covered in sprinkles and thought "I want a cone just like her ice cream cone!" My husband, who always gets the same treat at the DQ, got his usual. The peanut buster bar! Vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate. The inside is caramel and peanuts. A messy treat to eat! Once in a great while he gets a strawberry sundae with whipped cream and nuts. No cherry, please. Our total was $5.46 -- which is a good price point. However, if you get 2 different treats (eg, sundae, banana split or blizzard) it is over $9. A banana split is over $6! This DQ expanded several years ago. Despite the expansion it is still relatively small. There are benches in front where young children, parents and grandparents hang out. There are 6 or 7 tables inside. Their ice cream cakes are very, very good but not inexpensive. When they get ready to close for the winter they sell their ice cream cakes very, very inexpensively. If you have someone who has a birthday coming up in November or December you may want to snag one of their creamy and delicious ice cream cakes. You will save anywhere from $5 - $12! The Owner always winters in his AZ home. He is not an elderly man (maybe late 40's or early 50's). We hit up this particular DQ after seeing the movie "Blinded by the Light" at the Pickwick movie theater in downtown Park Ridge. It's an art deco theater. Beautiful. The Pickwick even has tours (architecture and art deco). This DQ has a very small parking lot (less than 12 spaces). We usually park in the street (Devon Ave.). You can also park across the street at the bank parking lot (after the bank is closed for the day). Street parking is free. The Owner is rarely here, but he was here on the afternoon we stopped by. He took our order, rolled up his sleeves and prepared my cone. Sweet! Service is efficient and welcoming. Park Ridge is an upper middle class town. There's not a lot of diversity in this town -- same situation at this DQ location. The owner is friendly. The employees are always quick at preparing your DQ treat. They are great, hardworking kids. They also serve food at this DQ (burgers, hot dogs, fries, chicken strips). My 4-star review is based on going here more than 20 times. This DQ closes for the season 1 week before Thanksgiving.

Busy old school storefront on a pleasant summer evening

This is a classic old school Dairy Queen, and located in a nice clean-cut neighborhood of Park Ridge. I really liked their use of a number system as the place is too small for orderly queuing and it lets folks find a comfortable spot and just wait for their number to be called. Service is friendly and quick anyway, and on a pleasant summer night, sure enough, there was a pretty big and friendly crowd milling both inside and out. As small as the place is, it does have some limited inside tables and seats, which come to think of it, many DQ's don't have I don't believe. Wife and I both had small cones (I had mine dipped), and they were plenty generous with fresh cones for the $2.09 base price. Limited street parking is easy right out front, and several patrons were parking across Devon at the TCF bank parking lot (while the bank was closed).

This DQ is the best in all of Chicago and it's surrounding areas. The food/ice-cream here is made so good and the staff is super friendly. I definitely take the extra drive just to come here with my family

Service was pretty fast, we got ours in less than 10 minutes. Dining tables are available inside to eat, and also a few tables outside in the parking lot if you prefer the outdoors. For those who don't know, Small Cheval is the fast casual version of Au Cheval which I've had the opportunity to try in NYC. There's plenty of locations throughout Chicago so definitely make it a stop when you're in town. Now is it as good as Au Cheval? Definitely not but at one-third of the price point, it's hard to complain. The beef patties are well-seasoned with crispy edges and just the right amount of fattiness. My main complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough dijonnaise sauce or pickles, making this pretty dry. The bun was nicely buttered and toasted but almost took away from the contents inside the burger. The Famous Fried Chicken Tenders were also a good try. I could tell the chicken was clean & high quality but there was some flavor I couldn't quite place which made it a bit off-putting; thankfully it wasn't super noticeable especially with the sauces. The Golden Fries were delicious and paired well with the burger & tenders! Even the Cookies & Cream Milkshake was solid! Classic milkshake with a good balance of creaminess, sweetness, and texture from the cookie bits. The interior was also bright, spacious, and comfortable! All in all, really solid try!

It's like going to a burger place with a bar inside. I would also have to add with a side of a malt shop thrown in. The lady who took our order was very friendly. Both her and the guy making the shakes seemed competent and efficient. They were both just over worked. There was a rush when we came in so it put them behind. Everything was in good repair. There was no damage to the seats and tables and for the most part they were clean. The things that didn't work for me were the possible understaffing, and the lack of a good onion. I asked for raw onion on my burger. I inspected my burger for it and couldn't find it. So I asked for some more. She was very helpful and handed me a tiny container of minced onions. Apparently that's all they have. I do like a good slice of onion on my burger. If you're looking for a good quick bite to eat or a very tasty shake, this is a great choice! I would come back if the mood struck.

The bun was the first signal they knew what they were doing--lightly toasted, just enough structure to hold everything together without stealing attention. Then came the patty: thick, juicy, with that perfect sear that gives you a bit of crisp before it melts into richness. But the real centerpiece? The fried egg. Perfectly cooked--edges slightly crisp, yolk still runny. The moment you bite in, it breaks and seeps into the meat, turning each bite into something borderline indulgent. It doesn't overpower the burger; it elevates it, adding a creamy texture that balances the salt and char of the beef. The toppings were minimal but intentional--fresh lettuce for crunch, a slice of tomato for brightness, and just enough sauce to tie it all together without making a mess. It's the kind of burger that makes you slow down halfway through, not because you're full, but because you realize it deserves your full attention. Messy in the best way, rich without being overwhelming, and anchored by that fried egg that takes it from good to unforgettable.
