Alway one of our favorite breakfast eateries in New Been. Love the fact that you can join the waitlist online because they are always busy, especially on the weekends. Food is incredible. Sweet potato biscuits are phenomenal and baby approved. We love the hungry farmer - the French toast is unbelievable and the syrup is like no other. The Dutch potatoes are worth the trip to Bakers alone. All of the omelettes are great too! If you love fried food, then this is your place. The food is decent, but most of it does come out of a fryer. Next time, I'll wait until 11:00am when there's more restaurants open. read more

Definitely a good place to head for breakfast or brunch. Not the best breakfast, seems sort of average, but it's still very good and I like the atmosphere. Hung around for a bit after finishing our food and the waitress seemed to be a little annoyed (understandable but yet again not). It's a solid 7.8/10 and I would recommend the chicken and waffles. I hopped in here at a friend's recommendation but only to grab some sweets the day before Thanksgiving and bring them to share with family. I didn't dine in. The baked items for carry out were delicious. And the ones I didn't buy also looked too enticing to pass up. I managed to get a slice of pumpkin pie, a pumpkin bar, s'mores bar and three cookies. The pie was perfect, the pumpkin bar wasn't bad (but not as good as the pie), the s'mores bar too sweet for my liking and the cookies were also perfect (especially the chocolate chip one). I learned very quickly that you shouldn't wait around to question whether or not you should get something or what you should get. Every person in line in front of me got multiple boxes and bags of stuff. Only a few people in front of me and they were almost totally emptied out by the time I arrived at the counter. This could've been because of the day I went, but it's worth noting the price-to-deliciousness ratio was quite off balance here. If I can get things this good for this cheap, why wouldn't I double the bounty? I hope to get back someday for one of those massive cinnamon rolls. read more

We waited 45 minutes for our food. 4 meals ( 2 omelettes, chicken meal and pork meal.) The food arrived just room temperature, badically cold ( it was 13:55pm on a Sunday and the kids were really hungry by then. Restaurant closed at 2pm. Margaret (server) appologized for the wait but we still had to pay for a cold meal. Think this restaurant is just lucky as it is 2 minutes walk from the birthplace of Pepsi. Really nice place to visit. Ambiance was nice - it's a big place but waitstaff was very attentive and personable. Food was really yummy. We had French toast, eggs, "Dutch potatoes," sausage, etc.. We were admittedly a bit skeptical of their "famous" butter syrup after reading the menu and I figured it would be super sweet, but it was actually quite good, not terribly sweet, and an interesting alternative to the usual maple syrup. We liked it. Overall really nice experience and I'd be happy to come back. read more

Stopped by here on my way home from my vacation at the beach as the food looked great. I went with a traditional comfort/country style breakfast. My waitress was nice and attentive. I did have a little trouble finding the place, was using GPS on my phone and I am not from the area, but a nice gentleman helped me find my way. Enjoyed my meal very much. read more

Good food, casual setting. Loved the fact you can use the yelp app to get on the waiting list. I enjoyed the chicken salad, corn fritters and sweet potato casserole. My partner says her chicken tenders were her favorite ever. The cucumber salad was tasty. Warning, the Dutch potato dish is excellent but so full of rich ingredients you may struggle later. Seems we caught the tail end of Sunday lunch as the bakery items were in short supply. Most of the staff write masks but a couple did not. read more

First-time diners. We were immediately greeted and registered for seating . Within 10 minutes, we were seated. Carol, our friendly server, was quick to approach us and take our drink order. We ordered the Meat omelet and the Hungry Farmer plate. Both were delicious along with the coffee, and Carol was attentive to our needs, too. We will be back and recommend this restaurant. read more

We ordered the turkey club with coleslaw and the special, cheesesteak with smashed tots. Our meals arrived after a short wait. They looked really good. The portions were a good size and were well prepared. We both agreed everything was delicious! The coleslaw had great texture and the right amount of seasoning. The turkey club delivered everything you would expect. The smashed tots were an interesting version of tots, but were good. For me the highlight was the cheesesteak. I had mushrooms and jalapenos added to the already loaded sandwich and it was amazing. The overall experience was great. We will definitely return here again and highly recommend giving Lawson's On The Creek a try.

I had the pleasure of dining at Baker's Kitchen on Friday morning with several family members while we were in town for our family reunion. Baker's Kitchen is located right in downtown New Bern on Middle Street, and we were able to find street parking without a problem. We met around 9:30 AM, and I was honestly surprised to see that the restaurant was already packed! That alone told me we had probably picked a good spot. We had a large party of twelve, and even with how busy they were, the management and staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. We were seated downstairs on the left side of the restaurant, which worked out perfectly because we had someone in our party who would not have been able to manage the stairs. There is additional seating upstairs, but I really appreciated that they made sure our group was comfortable downstairs. Now let's talk about the food because Baker's Kitchen did not disappoint! The menu has so many selections that it was actually hard to decide what to order. I was impressed by the variety, and the prices were very reasonable, especially considering the amount of food you receive. Everyone at our table ordered something different. I ordered an omelette, and when I tell you it was HUGE, I mean huge! The ingredients tasted fresh, and everything was cooked perfectly. Most of our group went with traditional breakfast favorites like eggs, grits, and other breakfast staples. My daughter decided to switch things up and ordered shrimp, fried okra, and grits. When our plates came to the table, the presentation was EVERYTHING! It looked just as good as it tasted. One thing Baker's Kitchen definitely does not do is skimp on portions. She kept our glasses full and somehow managed to take care of our large table like we were the only customers in the restaurant. Considering how busy they were, this really stood out to me. I also had the opportunity to meet the owner, who was extremely sweet, welcoming, and down to earth. She took the time to speak with us and made our family feel genuinely welcome. That personal touch makes an already great experience even better. Baker's Kitchen gets a solid 5 out of 5 from me. Great food, generous portions, reasonable prices, wonderful service, and a welcoming atmosphere. If you are visiting downtown New Bern and looking for a good breakfast or brunch spot, put Baker's Kitchen on your list. I know one thing for sure. I had an appalling experience at this restaurant and strongly advise others, particularly Black patrons, to think twice before dining here. The lack of professionalism and blatant disregard for equitable service was astonishing. My boyfriend and I watched as multiple parties, including a large family who arrived simultaneously, were served and completed their meals before we even received half of our order. Our server, BECCA, displayed clear negligence--failing to provide me with silverware after I returned from the restroom while ensuring my boyfriend had his, and making no effort to check on us throughout the meal. To add to the insult, both the server and manager stood at the kitchen entrance openly staring at our table, creating an atmosphere of discomfort and unwelcome scrutiny. When my food did arrive, it was incorrect--I was served one blueberry pancake and one plain when I had clearly ordered blueberry pancakes. By the time the correct item was brought--15 minutes later--I had already eaten half of the meal and had to request the replacement in a to-go container. Finally, paying the bill was another ordeal, as BECCA disappeared, leaving my boyfriend to approach the front just to settle the check. The only highlight of this experience was the cheesy grits, which were admittedly delicious, but not nearly enough to make up for the unprofessionalism, disregard, and overall negative treatment. We did not leave a tip, and we will absolutely never return. No one deserves to feel dismissed and disrespected while spending their hard-earned money on a meal. My server sucked! She had maybe four tables upstairs and was flirting the entire time with a member of the kitchen staff. She didn't come back and fill drinks and it took over twenty mins to place and order, just as I was about to get up and walk out she came over. We ordered and it took over half hour for the food to come out. I ordered an eggs benedict special my egg was terrible it was hard boiled in the middle (I had told the waitress that I like my eggs over easy and told her I would send back). When I took a bite it was a hard boil egg and not poached. I told her that I didn't want it. The waitress told me she couldn't take it back. When asked for a manager-she didn't get me one she told me that they could cook up an overeasy egg on side but if I wanted poached it was going to be a long wait. I told her I wanted to poached. My family at this time had finished entire breakfast and were waiting on me. My daughter had french toasted and said it was out of this world and my husband had hungry farmer with french toasted and dutch potatoes he said it was good. Maybe I ordered the wrong dish when my food came out eggs were perfect but dutch potatoes were cold. I finshed and we waited, and waited and waitress never came back. I went downstairs to get my bill. I wasn't looking for something for free I complained to manager-they offered me free breakfast-I declined the offer and told them Iike this place just would like better wait staff. I will go back when summer crowds die down and try again. read more

Confused by the post, because our family visited the Baker's Square for dinner before a Theater Production last Friday. The are open for dinner and the food is delicious. My kiddos stuck with their usual Chicken Strips and burger, but even that was impressive. The chicken strips were freshly cooked (just like I make at home) and the burger was eaten in a flash by my son. Our meals were well prepared and full of taste. I has a pork roast that was drizzled in apple butter. With a baked sweet potato and green beans, my mouth reflected back to my Grandma's kitchen table. It was sad when the plate was empty. The service was slow, but to cook food that is fresh and remarkably tasty, it takes time. I will not even mention the dessert counter filled with chocolate muffins that were screaming for a cold glass of milk and pies that called for you to carry them home. For a kid-friendly fresh cooked meal, The Baker's Square is a great stop in downtown New Bern. read more

My family and I were on vacation to the New Bern area for a family reunion, Baker's Kitchen was recommended to us as a great breakfast spot since that would be the only meal we wouldn't be with the group for, and boy- are we glad it was. Our first breakfast there, we fell in love. It was a busy Sunday morning and our toddler was....being a toddler. Rick, our waiter, was great, getting our order in and on the table very quickly. He even helped pick up the "tower" my toddler made from jam packets. The Micky Mouse pancakes were a big hit...but not as big as the steak & cheese omelet!! We frequent this restaurant almost every Sunday. We know they are really busy and that is why we always check in online and today we (party of 8) were 4th on the list with a party of 13 on the wait list behind us yet they got seated before we did. We ended up still waiting over 30 min once we got there which is not normal, since we always check in on line. My food is always delicious. The desserts are amazing. The staff are the friendliest servers in town. I usually have French toast, fried okra, and dutch potatoes- with a ginger cookie :-) Salads are huge and cold and delicious. Pineapple cake is also incredible. read more

Always a great place to eat brunch. Nothing too fancy, just good ol' home style food. I try to stop in once a week. Very clean and efficient. I recommend the farmers breakfast. Wait times can vary, just depends...but usually I'm seated within 10 minutes. read more

Bakers kitchen is always a good spot to eat. Their cinnamon rolls are amazing. Their Dutch potatoes are to die for. We have had a few issues with food temperature not being hot once we get the meals but they have taken care of it and made it right. read more

We get to Bakers all the time. We use yelp to get reservations so we can wait a lot less time. It is well worth the wait. The staff is also the best. Lots of friendly people work there, including the hostess. read more
