This is a cute place to stop. It's charming and clean inside with a sort of Americana small town feel. This would be a good place to stop for grocery like items, Icecream, snacks or dairy. They've got toys for kids, towels and life jackets for sale. There's bathrooms here but the caveat is that they're port-a-potties out back. Overall good place. read more

Live a couple miles from the store. They carry unexpected things like PVC fittings.... things you don't want to have to drive 90 miles round trip to get. Electicity is expensive out here so people use propane as much as possible and Bakers always has plenty. Store prices are a bit high but what do you expect out in the boonies! Buy the "good" expensive beer and you'll pay about the same as in town since you can't raise it much. We would be lost without Baker's store and the Elderberry restaurant/lounge next store. If you're heading to the coast please be kind and don't overwhelm our cell signal. (especially in the summer) With so much tourist traffic sometimes we end up with no signal and you'll only get services for about 15 miles. read more

This is an old fashioned general store that has a little bit of everything. Fresh baked goods, and a hot food case. It also has self service gas pumps. Rumor has it they also serve breakfast, but we did not make it there for breakfast. The second time we walked in the male employee recognized us. I told him what we were looking for, cooking tools, hairspray, camp cooking items, etc. He did not tell us where the items were. There was another employee working, so, Instead he left his register and took us to where each item was located in the store.. The prices are more than you would pay in Seaside, or Portland, but it is really worth an hour drive to get to another store? I think not! It is a place where people sit on a bench outside of the store, sipping a soda, eating a snack, a meal, and just watching the traffic rush by to get to someplace else. I personally am very thankful for this general store. No matter what time I come in everyone is helpful. They have homemade chili that reminds me of my mother's. Local veggies, fruits. They create yummy baked goods and their beverage assortment in the back as well as their local varieties is where it's at. They store some household items in the back end that you might need .. which is more than helpful. I believe that it is family ran, I am grateful. This place has been here forever. In past years it was just a hole-in-the-wall general store that catered to the few locals who lived in the area, fishermen, hunters and the odd traveler on the sunset highway. I've stopped here a few times for gas coming back from the coast on my motorcycle. If the general store in Elsie was out of fuel it was iffy if I could make it back to Portland so I was always happy that they were here. I've also had many a meal at the restaurant next door. A couple of years ago I went inside and was surprised to see that the place has been cleaned up and upgraded with fare that would appeal to the yuppie tourist trade heading to/from Cannon Beach in their Prius. Not that I am into such foolishness but I'm a sucker for a freshly baked pastry and what good is a donut without a good cuppa joe? The people there have always been nice, the little interaction I've had with them. Seems like a family affair and perhaps they own the restaurant as well although it is my impression that the restaurant has changed hands several times since I've been stopping there. I like the nostalgia of a General store where you can find anything from souvenirs to items for home repairs. I actually stopped to get a picture with the sign to send to my parents because I am THAT girl, but also came away with some bonus baked goods. It is totally in the middle of nowhere, so in some cases the ONLY place to stop for gas and supplies. Definitely better than some other places I have had to experience as the ONLY stop in some pretty remote areas. The baked goods were just coming out of the oven and the ladies baking were extremely nice and happy to chat with us. They had hand pies, donuts, muffins, and anything else you could possibly want. Pretty impressive to have a mini bakery in a general store. We left with a warm and delicious sticky bun. Did not even know we needed it, but it hit the spot perfectly. As stated in other reviews, they do have public bathrooms, but they are port-a-potties. A bit cleaner than the average I will say. Even cleaner than some of the regular bathrooms I have had to use (or skip over) at places. All in all a good stop to help you along journey. read more

Baker's is super charming. The employees are super duper nice, the style is retro yet nice and modern, it feels like a small town general store done just right. The gas isn't the cheapest ever, but it's not like there's a lot of selection around here. Plus, you get to have it pumped out of an old school(ish) gas pump, and pay inside - afterward! Perfect throwback to 1995. And, it comes with a FREE coffee or fountain drink. (I got hor chocolate) Inside you'll find a very well stocked store that has just about anything you might need. Lots of automotive parts, food choices, etc. The only thing that's kind of lacking is their beer selection, so I have to assume there's a good beer store nearby somewhere. All in all, just what you'd need and want from this store. They made me feel warm and welcome and belonging, and it's hard to put a price on that! read more

This is an almost always stop on our way to the coast. This morning as we filled up with gas (which buys you a free fountain drink or coffee by the way) Baker's sticky buns had just come out of the oven. My Pal that I was with bought one... and wasn't disappointed. The size alone could last you days. The smell intoxicating. Hello Carbs! The staff is super kind and friendly (keep in mind folks these people see a lot of tourist types, the 'on my way to the coast' folks that might not always be pleasant or that might lack awareness)... never the less my experience has always been positive, I enjoy popping in and can almost always find what I forgot to bring from Portland :) read more

Perhaps I've become numb to the abundant sameness and uniformity of convenience store chains like 7-11, Quick Trip, Race Trac and so on, so much so that the quaint, rustic log cabin appeal of this place was a delightful surprise. This is a like an old time dry goods store except with a bakery (the sticky buns looked wonderful), fresh fruit and vegetables and an abundant variety of soft drinks along with beer and Oregon Wines. It has all the stuff that appeals to yuppies and hipsters with the possible exception of Kombucha tea. Prices were what you would expect from a convenience store and the service was small town friendly. Obviously this is a pit stop between Portland and Cannon Beach, and you may be in a tremendous hurry, but may I recommend you make time to sit for a spell at the outside covered tables and enjoy your beverage, be present in your moment and take in the piney smells of the area surrounding this mountain top general store. This store also carries random stuff like pool/lake/beach toys (inner tubes,etc) and basic hardware store stuff. Basically it is what it is... A general store for a small town with just enough items to tide you over before you "go to town" to do your big shopping. This place was great. Baker's General Store is really the only option in the area. If you're camping our along the Nehalem (as we were) or find yourself the victim of poor planning (like you thought you could get from PDX to the coast on a quarter tank of gas) then you're likely pulling in to the Baker General Store to stock up. This little spot offers dry goods and food, a small deli, firewood, ice, and gas. It's a dressed up version of a convenience store with actually kind of a worse-than-average beer selection and the bonus of some gear for hunters, fishermen, campers, and various outdoors-y types. My stops here were for camp supplies - firewood bundles ($4.99), ice ($1.85/bag), beer, jerkey, snacks and, as a poor advance planner, gas ($4.40/gal when average in town was $4). The prices here match the level of convenience, as I sure as hell am not going to drive 20 miles to the coast for slightly cheaper everything. The folks that run this joint were plenty friendly to me when I came through both times. It has that sleepy country general store feel to it, and that's kind of refreshing (vs. your average Plaid Pantry worker). Honestly, my experience here given the remote location was A-OK. If they just had a bit better beverage selection I'd probably notch this one up a star. read more

I've been going to this store since I was a little girl and can remember So the better part of 40 years off and on. It's always been a favorite destination when camping at Spruce Run. It use to always have the friendliest staff and the best home baked treats in the area. The last couple times I've been in to get treats the treats have been amazing as always but the attitude and standoffishness of the staff is less then desirable. Upon our most recent visit over Memorial Day weekend 2022 we stopped in for some treats after clam digging and taking the scenic route home and I commented on the lovely smell upon walking in and was greeted with a scowlly faced old lady making the treats who couldn't even say thank you the compliment. I've noticed this decline in the staff over the last couple years. This use to be one of my favorite places because of the friendliness of the staff and not one staff had any friendlessness to offer on this trip It was around 8-9 in the morning and everyone seemed grumpy. These mom and pop shops use to be my favorite places to visit but if the staff attitudes don't improve I won't be wasting my time to stop here anymore. read more

We randomly stopped by this place on our way to hike Saddle Mountain. Every single staff member was so friendly and so helpful! The food was good (especially the cherry cheese cake)! Growing up in Tillamook and Forest Grove, I have fond memories of this place about as far back as I can remember. On a recent trip through my old digs we stopped by and saw the place has been remodeled and expanded. They have gas pumps now and a bakery, in additional to general store type of stuff. We took a side trip to Baker's on a bike ride from Vernonia to Jewel and beyond. The staff were friendly and helpful, asked me if I was looking for a bathroom (obviously a cyclist, cyclists are always looking for a BR) even though I had not bought anything. I dropped my gloves when I went across the parking lot to the Elderberry Inn for some marionberry cobbler. They kindly set them out where I would see them when I hit the road again. They saw me coming back and pointed to them---"There's your mittens!"
