Buyer beware! Stopped in for a couple items on our way to our beach house rental nearby. Older lady…read moreat counter wasn't very friendly. She was too busy watching a video on her phone. We grabbed our items and headed to the counter. She pulled herself away from her phone to ring us up. No greeting or pleasantries. She said there was a problem with our card and asked for it again. She ran it again and said their internet must be down. I saw her hitting the green button multiple times, not the red button to cancel the transaction. We ended up paying cash. I was a little concerned about her running our card twice, so asked for a receipt. I immediately checked my online app and saw two transactions in pending. Not sure the transactions would go through as pending if the internet is down. Sure enough two days later the transactions went through as sales. I was able to dispute one transaction over the app as a duplicate, but had to call my credit card company to dispute the second one as a 'paid in cash' transaction. Super frustrating and time consuming to have to deal with while on vacation. So thankful we used our credit card and not debit card as the former is much easier to get your money credited.

The ingredients on the sandwiches were very fresh. I could have used a little more sauce on mine. However, the potatoe salad was the star of the show. Definitely tangy and i loved the pickles in it. I ended up going back to get a togo order of it! The inside was very cute and had a decent amount of space! Would recommend!

I have a fondness for international markets and sandwiches. So it was fortuitous to visit Gaetano's…read moreMarket & Deli in Astoria. It reminded me of two Italian spots in Seattle's Pioneer Square. Very popular since most of the onsite seating were occupied (6/20/25). No surprise after glancing at their menu, easily I could gravitate towards several of their sandwiches. Lots of merch and deli items are also available to select from. I ended up ordering a half pound of proscuitto (0.52 lb for $17.67). This was carefully sliced thin, packaged, and wrapped carefully, which was duly noted and greatly appreciated. We paused at window counter seats and had to sample the purchase before departing. Absolutely delicious! Helped elevate a meal the next day too. I may have to return to indulge in one of their Italian sandwiches. Update: we did return to dine onsite at the same window counter seats (6/22/25). The Homie had the Hot Meatball ($14). Meaty with zesty sauce. I had the Salami Panini ($12), which reminded me of a fave Italian panini at Irwin's Bakery & Cafe in Seattle. Both were fantastic, hit the spot, clean plate club worthy, and definitely no takeout boxes needed! Gaetano's Market & Deli, a terrific find in Astoria!

Grateful for them to be open at all and fulfilling the order 30 minutes before close. We arrived exactly as they were about to close and had our 3 sandwiches ready to go. We tried the Fratello and BLTA. Might try their gabagool for next time. Very tasty sandwiches but wished they sliced them in half. They are located in an industrial park close to department of corrections. We aren't Italian but I think they are the real deal considering the specificity in their menu.

When I did stand in front of a staff member working the front, he just continued to do what he was doing and pretty much ignored me until I said something. I guess you just have to walk up and talk to get his attention. (New York City delis even greet you...so perhaps it was an off day for the gentleman). I overheard and witnessed other stuff that was said, but anyways. The actual workers behind the counter/making the sandwiches were just doing their role, so I don't have anything to say besides the fact that my sandwich and my wife's were tasty. She got the gabagool and I got the Italian stallion. We both agreed that the sourdough could be improved a bit, but the deli meats tasted fresh. Would come back to try other sandwiches, but hope the service would be a little bit more attentive/friendly.
