Amazing donuts! I love good old fashioned donuts without all of the fancy frills, frosting and ridiculously sweet toppings. The donut shop seems quite popular and I understand why. The service was good, and the selection was great (of course I arrived at 7:00 am to ensure I had plenty of donuts to choose). I ordered a dozen to take home to my family and the donuts were devoured. I was able to try a raised glazed, old fashioned, chocolate frosted old fashioned and maple glazed old fashioned, all were delicious and perfect! By far, the best donuts I have ever had. My first experience was when my boss brought an assortment to work. I had to find out where they were located to get some to share with a friend and also with family. They all agree these are sooo sooo good! The store front doesn't create an inviting atmosphere located next to a laundromat with a sigh that just says 'DONUTS'. Talk about a hidden gem! This morning I visited Reddit via google - and there were several great recommendations for Bakers Dozen Donuts... they're close to home, so I thought I'd give them a try. There was only a few customers around 9:30am, I noticed one person working up front. I never heard her say hello not did I notice her ever smiling, and I felt slightly rushed to make a decision even though there was only 1 person behind me. I wasn't upset by their customer service, but just thought I would note how it was. I tried 3 Donuts. 1) Bavarian cream. I'd say it was average. The yeasty texture was good. Filling so-so and chocolate glaze lacking. I couldn't taste any chocolate. 2) chocolate glazed donut: was everything as above, minus the filling. 3) choclate iced chocolate cake donut. The cake part was good. Again, the icing was lacking in flavor. I would say they need to step up the ingredients for their filling and icing. I would visit again, but don't think I'll be rushing back sadly. read more

Located in what used to be a wings shop, Baker's Dozen is a welcome addition to this neighborhood. I popped in after seeing initial pics on Yelp and it was worth the effort. The bright yellow interior remains but the front counter has been replaced by taller glass display cases. I order up a dozen mixed donuts and get a nice box of colorful pastries for $8.50, nice! I check em out immediately, a mix of cake and glazed donuts along with one cruller. At the office I pig out on three victims: a glazed, blueberry cake along with a buttercrunch crumb and they are all very good. The glazed reminds me of a Dunkin Donut but maybe a bit lighter. The blueberry donut and butter crunch both have good flavor along with some moist cake, nice... Now I don't think you should be eating doh-doh's regularly but if you were committed to doing so, the pastries here at Baker's Dozen are delicious and a bargain. First I have to start out by saying we all know how much I really, really love Krispy Kreme, but if this place was beside KK, I would go here instead. I stopped here on a whim as I was driving past. The place looks so unassuming from the outside. All there is a simple sign that just reads "DONUTS," unlike the other doughnut places that have fancy lights, pretty colors, and extravagant decorations to lure customers in like a moth to a flame. All of their donuts looked really tasty, so my eyes looked around at all of the tasty treats, and my mouth started to water. The first thing that caught my eye was the Apple Fritter. I have a special weakness for apple fritters. But being the skeptic I am having visited a few bakeries in the past, and the items not being fresh I wasn't sure what to try, and what to leave. I asked one of the ladies in the back how was the Apple Fritter, and she said "Crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside." I figure, what the heck, I had nothing to loose, so I decided to get one. Next I looked around for my second donut choice, and I decided to get the Raspberry filled donut. Then I took my two donuts to the cashier and started to pay. I whipped out my plastic and the cashier pointed to a sign, "$3 credit card minimum," so I begrudgingly (not really) got a third donut. This time it was the blueberry. With my 3 donuts I was on my merry way. I started with the blueberry, and it tasted so fresh, that I was amazed and shocked. It was a great tasting donuts. Next I had the Raspberry filled donut. What I want to know is how did they fit an entire jar of jelly in the donut. When you go to the other donut places and ask for a jelly filled donut, there is a couple of tablespoons of jelly somewhere in there, but here, the entire donut is FILLED with jelly. Enough to make two or three PB&J sandwiches. So be careful when you eat this one. Last, but not least I saved the best for last. It was the Apple Fritter. It was indeed "slap yo mama" good. It had the perfect crispy crunch on the outside with a great soft inside. I mean it was indeed perfection in every bite. My only regret, getting just one. I might be wrong, as we know there is a doughnut chain war, but Baker's Dozen does not taste like either KK, or DD. To me, that taste like both KK, and DD. I would say 75% KK with their sweetness and taste, and 25% DD with the light and airiness. Baker's Dozen found the perfect recipe blend to make their donuts, and they are a nice big size too.
