Looking to cater a dinner? Get some yummy premade food for dinner? Sit down to a breakfast that's fit for a king? Baker's Best is your place. Friendly people, beautiful food, and fantastic desserts. Located in a somewhat eclectic street in Newton (complete with a sport card store, kids clothing outlet, and a place to buy fabric flowers) Baker's Best is a great place to take your co-worker or even Grandma out to lunch. The food is incredible, although a bit on the expensive side. Try the creative menu during their weekend brunches (until 3!) and make sure you don't leave without a cream cheese brownie! read more

Challah french toast: TDF. to. die. for. Veggie quiche was excellent too. The service was friendly -- our server even sparked up a conversation about astrology when she saw that I had my sister's natal chart on the table. I'll be revisiting soon, so *maybe* I'll try something other than the French toast. Wait, who am I kidding? It's almost worth flying 3,000 miles for. read more

Oh Bakers' Best How can I thank you for making my life at work so easy. I am at a new job and the first lunch I ordered was their fabulous deli platter and the best home made soups ever. My last company I used them every week and week after week they succeeded not only with their delicious food but their award winning service. Keep up the great work! If you haven't used Bakers' Best yet for your private parties or work lunches you should give them a try. read more

Challah french toast. Yep, you read that right, Challah french toast done CORRECTLY! Not too crispy, but not too soggy. Just a little crisp edge and soft in the middle. Yum. Syrup was a little watered down - but oh well. I'm assuming it's not real. Pancakes were tasty, I like mine a little bit more well done but i can't complain. Overall - well done! read more

I love Bakers Best! My friend who works near by introduced me a while ago and I have since been back quite a bit. I usually go on weekends for lunch or brunch. I like it better when there is table service (I think sat & sun until 3PM). Either way though their food is delicious! Some of my favorites are the chicken pesto pannini, thai wrap, chicken salad, veggie omelette....oh and their fries are awesome - thin and crispy! Looks like they have some amazing cupcakes & baked goods too - just have yet to try. The owner will come around alot to check on tables and make sure everything is good. Friendly staff and nice cafe atmosphere! read more

We have been a loyal client for 24 years. Today they refused to address a simple peanut allergy as they have for the past 24 years. Incredible after decades of loyalty they refused to make the same accommodations as they always have in the past. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BAKERS BEST! read more

We came here for lunch. The store was busy since it's Passover eve and alot of people came to pick up their orders. All their salads are pre-made, so you can't ask for 'dressing on the side' or 'no peppers' etc. This is quite annoying, since they don't have a lot of other salads to choose from (they have packed salads, greens based which are basic and OK). We had a goat cheese + cranberries + greens salad ($6), box of beans + feta cheese salad (yummy), Thai wrap (pretty good ) - $6 or $7, grilled vegtables (small box) - were pretty boring and oily. The food was OK, but they don't have any kind of whole wheat bread that you can get (is this a bakery??). Their soup selection is limited and the line is long. I wouldn't go there if it wasn't on my way, on the other hand, the food is average and there are a lot of pre-made salads so you can always find something. Go and have coffee in Lincoln St cafe just down the road. read more

Masking as something five star with price points to match, this deli does it well. It's not which toast but, what type of bread (4+ available). House coffee ...well done...perfect strength. Everything else...a little watered down or smallish portioned. Limited value in high atmosphere. Me thinks the café is but a background to the 'deli' - OMG did I say that word? I would think with catering and functions orders one would have more generous portion control because ONE would be paying for it. But then, it's precious' wedding and our guests deserve a 268.00 per plate lunch. The BEST store made corned beef hash, but the waiter reached across my face to serve it. Now, where was I? Oh, Newton Highlands. read more

(3.5 stars). First of all, I went to Bakers' Best with one of my very best girlfriends. She's the kind of friend that could make a trip to Burger King look glamorous. So some of my perception of Bakers' Best might be enhanced by my delightful lunch date. We chose Bakers' Best because Bread & Lily (across the street) seemed a little too institutional (in all fairness, their food looked really good, but it had the ambience of a hospital cafeteria) and Bakers' Best seemed a bit more suited for a leisurely lunch. We both had sandwiches - my friend had the chicken club on multigrain (which she enjoyed) and I had the chicken salad with grapes on a baguette. The chicken salad was good - no extra mayo (always the downfall of chicken salad) though it could have used something to enhance it a bit - some more salt, and perhaps something to add a zing to it (cumin, maybe?). All of this to say, the sandwiches were solid. They weren't spectacular, they weren't gourmet, they didn't use any of the funky ingredients people love so much these days (no aioli, no chipotle, no cilantro mayo, none of that stuff). After sandwiches, we had cookies and tea. Despite the name Bakers' Best, I don't think that this place is at its best as a bakery. We both had chocolate chip cookies -- the cookies weren't bad, but they weren't memorable either. In fact, they felt downright flimsy. A bakery cookie should be large enough to be enjoyed, and this was petite enough that I had eaten the whole thing in under two minutes. The cookie part also seemed to lack some basic ingredient-- perhaps it needed more vanilla, or more butter -- but it just didn't have that bakery-delicious taste. read more

Our office got lunch catered by this place last Friday.. we had a spread of grilled salmon and rotisserie chicken breast, which came with sauces and a chutney.. and also a spring mix salad with goat cheese, cranberries and a really good creamy balsamic dressing. Everything was fresh and delicious- it really hit the spot! Only, I didn't like any of the sauces (mustard sauce was too spicy for my liking, then some tomato-based sauce that wasn't good, either.. and a corn chutney kinda thing, which wasn't tasty in general). Dessert platter came w/ what seemed like one of everything.. The lemon square was yummy (a very wet kind, not as firm as others), and brownies were great, too (esp. the almond one, which tasted like they add in almond extract!, yum!). read more

I've heard alot of people rave about this place but frankly I think it's a little overrated. Known for their weekend brunches, they're pretty much the only brunch place in the neighborhood for that , and they know it. Sooo, they're a little overpriced. Also, another gripe i have with them is the togo service. They've gotten my order wrong more than half of the times I've been there. In all fairness, i've never utilized their catering services which is a big part of their business. As I write this I asked my wife what she thinks. Her response, "other than their Huevos Rancheros, it's not my cup of tea", and "their service is horrendous." read more

I went here today for brunch with two of my friends. I am a pretty reasonable person, so I was not surprised that it took a while to get seated at 1pm on a Saturday in Newton. However, once seated we were promptly ignored by our waitress for ten minutes until she came and got our orders for water and than ran off again, not letting us order any coffee or anything else. Finally, another 10 minutes later we were able to order our lunch and the rest of our drinks. Our food came pretty quickly and was correct and tasted pretty decent. My friend wanted a refill on her unlimited coffee and we were unable to flag down a waitress to do that. I finally asked a very nice waiter to grab her a coffee, which he did. Meh. Food was decent, but not worth waiting an hour for. Service was so slow and the tables were packed on top of each other. Take out may be the way to go here. read more

Once I stopped in for lunch while running work errands, and I thought my lunch was VERY expensive and HIGHLY mediocre, not to mention it took a really long time to get my sandwich. However, I've since had a lot of experience with their catering and I've found it very reasonable, tasty and the service is great. There's a ton of selection, they're flexible and they're always right on time with delivery. read more

My husband loved the french toast! I had the turkey club and the turkey and bacon were wonderful. Great atmosphere and super friendly staff. Chatted with the owner and he was a really nice, genuine guy! We'll be back!!! read more

I love this place, although parking can be difficult , and it is always crazy there, it also can be a little over priced, but it's delicious. They have so many choices as well. Deserts, great sandwich's and gourmet take home. mmmmm. read more

What a surprise!! Despite my initial skepticism about driving out to the suburbs for a meal, my partner, a Boston native, took me to this fantastic restaurant while I was visting this last summer. Well, I'm so glad that he did because I had some of the best pizza that I've had! I solidly recommend the white pizza to those that enjoy Mediterranean ingredients, as the pizza's toppings consist of: mozzarella cheese, feta cheese, spinach, pesto and chicken. I'm coming back to Boston in December and the first thing I'm going to ask my family to do, no exaggeration, is to take me back to this highly-recommended restaurant! read more

If what you like is French Toasts then you have to go to this place because they have the biggest and most wonderful french toast that I have ever tasted. If you go on a Sunday for brunch you will have to wait but do it cuz u wont regret it. It is a little bit expensive but it will be one of the best breakfast of your life. It is great for brunch and lunch and catering too... read more

We went through a phase of coming here for Sunday brunch. The food is great, but in order to avoid a wait, you have to come early. There was something for everyone (bagel or cold cereal for the picky eater; eggs benedict or a variant for adults). I have had their other food at various catered events in our community (tomato basil soup was awesome) but we have only patronized the restaurant at brunch. read more

This is the place to get a chocolate lover's cake. They have this velvety rich chocolate cake covered with ganache and an amazing chocolate flower on top. The take-out food is ok. They have a good selection, but nothing very impressive, same with the sandwiches. read more

Extremely disappointed with the service. Ordered a breakfast platter with assorted pastries Plus a box of coffee juice etc. The order was for 12 people , but what we got was a platter that could only serve at most 8 people. 3 stale bagels, a couple of croissants, a couple of mini muffins , a few pastries and that was pretty much it. Thankfully I did not have a hungry crowd otherwise I would have been in a pickle. definitely not worth over $100. Overpriced and cold, stale baked goods is what you will get. Never again. I'll just pick up Dunkin Donuts next time, it will cost less and the food will be warm. read more

Please, do not hire this catering company for a milestone event such as a wedding. A wedding is beyond their capabilities. Hiring a catering company is different than having to teach a catering company the basics of food service. read more

super take out and eat in. A favorite place to go for breakfast. Wonderful cakes and tarts to woo your favorite hostess with.

Just used Bakers' Best Catering for a party in our home for over 20 people last night. The food was fabulous! Quality and taste was excellent! Service was great too! Definitely recommend! Two thumbs up! read more

I'm so confused by these reviews. I've eaten at Baker's Best for breakfast a handful of times and the restaurant is nice but the service is awful. The food looks pretty, but it is extremely overpriced and lacks flavor. My work orders catering from them a lot and I think the catering is awful. Often it looks nice so I will grab a plate and then invariably end up having 2 bites and throwing the rest out. read more

We used them for our wedding and we were so impressed!! Sandwich platters, salad, and fruit platter were so beautifully prepared and I didn't want to ruin them by eating! Not only was the spread pretty, but it was DELICIOUS! Surprisingly, it was also more affordable than most other catering options... highly recommended!! read more

We used them for a recent family celebration. Certain aspects were outstanding. They were prompt and neat and left the kitchen and entire house perfect. The service was fine. Now for the food. The appetizers were outstanding. We had several different ones and each was more delicious than the last. Unfortunately I wouldn't say the same for the entrees. We had two main courses, two side dishes, and a salad. Everything was underseasoned. Many guests were reaching for salt shakers during the meal. Only one of the dishes was presented nicely. One of the main courses was sliced meat and it was simply piled in a big lump with many of the slices still attached. The roasted vegetables were not cooked evenly and were piled into a deep bowl so that the pieces on the bottom became quite limp. Also, we had asked for a modification to the salad, and it was not executed, but was served unmodified. The salad had very large pieces of fruit that were too big to eat in one bite. Overall, the expectations that the delicious appetizers raised were not met. read more

Came here for brunch on the weekend and it was fantastic! Let me just say that the Challah Stuffed French Toast was the best I've ever had. We actually didn't have a long wait so perhaps we just came early enough on a Saturday (around 10am) before it got busy. read more

My office loves to get catered lunches here. Especially tasty salads, cookies and I'm a fan of the chicken salad wrap too. I'm afraid I don't have much more to say on this, as I haven't been to the shop's location. Will update my review when I do visit... read more

This place is really tasty, cute, and I'm glad that I found it! I had a delicious sandwich (pesto chicken) and my friend had the caprese. Check out the cupcakes with monkeys frosted on them! Cute for kids. I can't wait to taste one of their mini-cakes! I'll be back. read more

My parents love to cater parties from this place--I don't know how their prices are because I'm not the one paying, but they make delicious prepared wraps and other things and I think we've always been very satisfied with the results. read more

I have had a breakfast sandwich here as well as multiple lunch sandwiches. This place is good but it is very overpriced, let's see a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel was over $6...INSANE!! Their tuna melt with avocado on multi grain bread is delicious but the sandwich itself and a bag of chips is over $11, a tad pricey in my opinion. Overall, pretty good place but I do not understand all of the hype surrounding it! read more

If you find yourself in Newton Highlands around lunchtime, there's no better place to grab a sandwich than this place. The freshest, highest quality ingredients, served with friendly service. Of course, you'll pay for this, but it's worth it. Great takeout (premade and catered food) too. read more

Uggggh, every time my uncle comes into town this is the one cafe he HAS to go to and eat. Since he is family, I join him. There's nothing wrong with this place, but I don't see what's so special about it. This pretty much sums it up: OH BOY, sandwiches!!! Holy shit, baked goods that I can't eat!! I eat boring sandwiches at work every day and this is the main reason I avoid this place. If you want something that is shi-shi, yuppie and trendy and overcharges on American food, I highly recommend this place. read more

I've never been to the actual cafe that so many of you hate, but I've never had a better caterer. Ever. My company hosts many sales meetings and surgeon training events, so naturally we've tried out different places. This one gets rave reviews every time, and if it's an event that I'm not attending then I spend the night praying that there will be a fridge full of leftovers when I get into the office in the morning because it's delicious. By far, my favorites are the lasagna (both the vegetable and meat are to die for), the meatballs, and the chicken broccolli ziti. I honestly can't think of a restaurant that I like better. Those are certainly not the only options though. They have some of everything and it can almost get a little overwhelming trying to decide on a menu. But it's a good thing. read more

Ordered pancakes with berries, emphasis on the "s" at the end. When I received them there was one, yes a single strawberry, cut into 4 pieces on top. I actually lifted up the pancakes to see if I missed something. Nope. One berry. Pancakes tasted pretty good but nothing to write home about. read more

They do a nice job catering. Reasonable prices and Charles their delivery person is wonderful!

It's no secret that this is the best lunch spot in town (Newton Center) and based on the reviews here you can see why. The food is outrageous and the deserts... slice-of-heaven. Bring your credit card because you're not getting out of here for less than $10. read more
