They were good but not great, and I found both flavours to be a little bland and lacking in flavour if I'm honest. The portions are very generous, however. It's Gelato Fresco, so it's quality stuff. Get yourself a half sandwich (they do that) with half raspberry, half chocolate dairy-free ice-creams and you'll be in sugar heaven! This also opens up a whole new vegan possibility - the affogato or "drowned' in italian - chocolate sorbet with an espresso shot poured over it. Yum yum yum! Bakerbots is conveniently located right outside the Delaware exit of Ossington station. I went in on a Friday afternoon to get a variety of baked goods for a party. The girl behind the counter explained what they had to offer and helped me choose the best things for my budget. Their carrot cake is moist, with buttery cream cheese icing. Their cupcakes are also moist, and their icing makes you want to keep eating more. I got mixed flavours: red velvet (which I tried and loved) and double chocolate. Sometimes I find icings way too sweet and although Bakerbots is normal sweet (come on it's icing) I think it's balanced well with the butter. Their butterscotch tarts are a perfect buttery caramely treat and were a nice surprise for people not looking for something cakey. I've been a few times and it's usually at least kind of busy - so plan to grab and go. Seating is really limited so don't expect to sit down. They're open until 10pm which is awesome - more time to satisfy my cravings. This place is one of our favourite bakeries! I love their everything cookie - it's the perfect combination of crispy and chewy and a fantastic sweet and salty mix with peanut butter chips, pretzels, and chocolate chips. The best cookie! My husband loves their chocolate cake. Whenever we're downtown we tend to always stop by here for a slice of cake and one (or two) cookies to go. They have the BEST gluten free cookies, they're large and chewy and have a hint of coffee taste in them. Even my non gluten-intolerant friends love them! However, the highlight of Bakerbots isn't it's space, it's the food. Bakerbots does offer milk and vegan varities of their ice cream, which is really fun. I cannot for the life of me remember if the space is accessible and/or what's the deal with the bathrooms, my bad. I would HIGHLY recommend trying a half or full ice cream sandwich. They're some of the best I've ever had in my life. All the baked goods and ice cream are made in house and you can taste it. Got a Birthday Cake Cookie + Nocciola ice cream sandwich and a Rococo + Black Tea ice cream sandwich. Ok, listen. You already know this place is worth it. The ice cream is bomb, the cookies are good (ok, the oatmeal ain't the best..) and honestly, there's a blackout cupcake that you need in your life. Hell, yes) and a slice of black and white cake that I was taking back home for my husband. We thanked her profusely, tipped her, and skedaddled outta there because I knew when an exception was being made and I wasn't about to overstay my welcome. We sat outside because holy shit there was a spot on those two benches! And we munched along happily, because life is about appreciating the little things. Top-notch bakeries were almost on every block. I know what the good stuff is. And here is where you can ABSOLUTELY get some of the "Good Stuff". The place is more about content than show biz, and there ain't really a lot outside to let you know the wonders contained therein. But ain't that the way of Nerds? They don't give a shit about the wrapper, it's what's inside that counts. I stepped inside, and there was some throbbing EDM pulsing away. You'd think that in an Artisanal bakeshop you'd hear some String quartets, or maybe a little light jazz. Folk music. But, Mais Non! A closer look at the kids (and yes they all looked breathtakingly young) behind the counter and they were walking/working in rhythm to the beat. Strangely there wasn't a HUGE selection of stuff, but then again it was later in the day when I visited. Bakeries have their salad early, yes. But what was there looked splendid. Like, drool-worthy splendid. Here's where I menchen this was to be my total-sum dinner. There is a tale to tell about the 5 places my daft companion and I walked into (and walked out of) prior to our roosting at Bakerbots, but I don't feel like typing THAT much now. I came to Bakerbots with my boyfriend a few weekends ago specifically to get a sweet treat to enjoy with our coffees. Walking in, I was immediately enchanted by the sweet displays of cakes and cookies. Unfortunately, I completely agree with Amy D.'s review -- we weren't greeted very warmly, and although it was obvious we were first-time customers, there were no real offers of assistance. Suddenly uncomfortable and consumed with a desire to get out of there as quickly as possible, I ended up hastily choosing a "RoCoco" cookie -- a chocolate cookie with a hint of sea salt (at least, that's what I'm assuming it was, as the owner didn't bother to explain what any of the cookies were). The cookie itself was fine; it tasted as I would like a chocolate cookie to taste, but it wasn't really worth going out of the way for. My boyfriend had some sort of croissant sandwich and a slice of apple pie (which I personally didn't enjoy). Just as we were about to leave, another customer walked in -- a regular or a family friend, I'm assuming -- and Rosanne's demeanour changed immediately, giving him a warm smile and telling him that he could pay later if he didn't have cash on him. I was actually kind of shocked...it was like witnessing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! Reading through others' reviews, it's obvious that *some* people do get this kind treatment, however I would hope that all paying customers are considered equally as important, and treated as such. An absolutely phenomenal little neighbourhood bakery. Everything looks and tastes absolutely amazing. I'm typically extremely critical of bakeries and still Bakerbots is one of the few that managed to meet and exceed my expectations. The big draw at Bakerbots are the ice cream sandwiches. You choose from a delicious selection of chewy cookies--chocolate, blueberry, ginger, peanut butter and blueberry when I was there--and they load it up with ice cream from one of Toronto's best ice cream shops: Ed's Real Scoop. They even let you choose multiple flavours of ice cream for your sandwich. These things are huge so I recommend getting a half sandwich ($3.50). While the ice cream sandwiches are phenomenal, the pie was the real gem here. First, let me note that I consider myself a serious pie connoisseur. Some may sing the praises of the likes of The Pie Shack or Wanda's, but these people simple don't know a thing about good pie. Until recently I just accepted the fact that Toronto pie meant mediocre pie. Thankfully this is no longer the case. The slice of peach pie I had at Bakerbots' blew me away.
