When I moved to Tennessee from the Monterey Bay area in California, I was expecting to find great barbecue. It hasn't happened. We have been to several places and disappointed every time and Baker Brothers was no exception. I got the baby back ribs with the side of onion rings and the vinegar coleslaw. And when they said vinegar they weren't kidding, it made my mouth pucker and was hard to eat. The onion rings were probably the best thing but even they were not that good. I think there was some kind of Cajun seasoning on the breading, but the shell was hard. The baby back ribs seemed like they had been left over from another night, frozen, thawed and then heated up. They weren't falling off the bone, they were off the bone. And even the mild barbecue sauce was way too vinegary. Maybe this is just Tennessee style and I'm not used to it, but to me it just was not very good. My wife had the deep fried fish and she didn't like that either. She said they tasted like they had been frozen, thawed, and then heated up. She said that there was a rubbery crust all the way around it. She said the French fries were ordinary and she had the same vinegar slaw that I had and did not like it either. She had to add mayonnaise to it to make it edible. The atmosphere was good and the staff was friendly and had a good attitude. But they needed more help as service was slow. We felt it was better than Sam's BBQ Humboldt, but not much better. Both of these places have some great reviews, and I don't understand it. Baker Bros has very tasty ribs & bbq. Plus, their catfish is the best in town! I can't say enough about how helpful the owner is. I recently needed food for my Dad's 80th birthday party, which was in the middle of nowhere. I talked with Drew about what we wanted, & he guided me in the quantity I needed & food selection. Had a great experience with the family at Baker Bros! We all got something different, and shared and traded all around. It was all good! We are used to a sweet BBQ, so this was different. The smoky meat flavor was excellent. My daughter asked for a chicken sandwich to be blackened. They didn't have that, but customized some Cajun-style seasoning for her instead! After dinner, we splurged on the bread pudding bites. They were scrumptious--even the skeptics gobbled them down! Our waiter was excellent, and took great care of us. Super, personalized service. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, and I've probably had everything. The smoked wings are divine with deep smoky flavor. Order the fried pickles and peppers - a unique twist on a southern favorite. The bbq is succulent and the southern sides are perfect accompaniments. The hardest part is deciding what to order, and as good as the Q is, their catfish is what my mouth waters for. You get good sized pieces that are juicy and seasoned! The pickle and pepper appetizer was good at first, bit got too salty quickly. The batter was good. The small container of sauce isn't enough for half of the order ( which is huge). My hubby wanted ribs but they were out, at two o'clock in the afternoon. We both had the combo platter and chose brisket and sausage. The portions were very small for the price: $18 each. We got one small slice of brisket (very good, tender and well seasoned), and a link of sausage that had a soft texture (ok but not a favorite). The texas toast wasn't the size of Texas for sure and got soggy immediately. The bbq baked beans were just ok, nothing special ( and no protein): they could have come from a can-and my rice was dry and had little seasoning or protein and didn't deserve the name jambalaya. My hubby's potato salad was ok, just not stellar. We passed on dessert because we were unsure of the taste. We read there was beer on tap but was told everything was in cans; a disappointment for us tap drinkers. We did enjoy the beers served to us in cans, but one type was outdated as evidenced by the sell by date on the can! The beers were comped as a result. Would have rather had fresh tap beer. I doubt that we will return, as I think better q can be found nearer to Memphis. And the price point was way too high. We eat out often, and we enjoy trying new places but this is one we will likely pass up. There aren't a lot of worthy places in the area, so we will just pass and keep looking. We are SWTN residents, so we are not newbies to the q scene. Just gotta keep looking for a place to spend my money. read more

The food is good. I had the wings. They cooked them fresh which is a plus. I really like the turnip greens. Best I've had from a restaurant. The service was okay. So here I am a Massachusetts Yankee on his first trip through Tennessee. I'm following in my great great grandfather shoes. He was a Confederate soldier who fought at the battle of Shiloh, farmed cotton in Humboldt, and was captured by the Yankees at the battle of Missionary Ridge. I'm going through Tennessee visiting all his old battlefields. He wishes he could have tasted barbecue like this, back in his day! Instead, he was a prisoner of war at Rock Island pow camp in Illinois and had to eat rats for two years! This was exactly the kind of place I was hoping for! The ribs were on point, and the sides were to die for. There was even a band playing live, and they said it was the first time since the pandemic that they have had live music there. They were so friendly and so awesome that I will definitely come back, next time I am in Tennessee. If you are from the Northeast, you have to stop here and try this food, because nothing like this can be bought, at any price, in the Northeast! read more

Walked in at 715 pm and the place was mostly empty. Normally a bad sign, but it smelled like a bbq joint and they had a smoker so I decided to stay. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich which he said was excellent, our son had a double half pound burger which he said was the best he's ever had and I had the jambalaya with barbecued shrimp.
