We stopped in as we were traveling through. Saw it on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Nice little BBQ place. Cute, rustic decor with wooden tables. The benches for the booths need some serious reupholstering! We chose to sit at a table. I love the rustic wood. We ordered the special for the day which included a sandwich, a side and a drink. We both ordered the Yard Bird with Alabama sauce. I really enjoyed it but my husband said it was so so. He doesn't like mayo. I enjoyed the flavor and the slight kick. All in all it was a good meal and the employees were very friendly. We would eat here again. Found this place off the interstate on a Friday after the lunch crowd. Service was friendly and quick. Went with the 2 meat platter w Brisket and Ribs along w side of fries and beans. Brisket was tender w decent bark, would definitely get it again. Ribs were over cooked... meat fell off the bone too easily but still ok as far as flavor. You go up to the counter and order. They give you a number and you find yourself a seat and they bring you your meal. My food came out pretty quick.and overall, I was definitely impressed. The pork sandwich was very good, though maybe next time I will get it without coleslaw (I found the coleslaw a bit sweet). The French fries were honestly amazing. Bought a family pack at the drive through. The people I dealt with were extremely nice, however... We got a pound of barbecue; half of that was fat and hard pieces. They gave us 4 buns in a paper bag; they were already hard. Other barbecue places always includes a full bag of buns in a plastic bag. The slaw was strange tasting; not vinegar, not mayonnaise, but something else. The baked beans were way too salty. I travel around Tennessee quite a bit for work. I set out with the romantic notion that there is always a perfect hidden family BBQ joint to be found wherever my travels take me. However few are the joints that truly exceed my now lowered 3 to 3.5 star expectations. Enter Clayton Bros. I chose it because of other reviews and it's proximity to the interstate. I need something unique or an unexpected take to get me to type words in the Yelp and that's what I got. I had a composed sandwich not just a bunch of meat slopped on a bun ( not that there is anything wrong with that). The cheddar jalapeño sausage sandwich had pickled onions and whole grain mustard. A total flavor explosión. The spicy green beans are a worthy side. This place has a thoughtful menu and just well done que. The staff treated me like they were glad I was there and they were knowledgeable and passionate about the food. In my humble, ok not super humble but self aware opinion, the place exceeds expectations. They have a take and they execute it. A good mix of new hip and down home. Brisket was dry and stringy. Chicken was ok. The sauce wasn't very good. The sides were salty. I asked if we could have a sample of the Bbq bologna since they were out of things. The man at the cash register said sure. We waited 25 minutes to get our food. There were only two other tables there. Our food was dropped without the bologna. I asked the gal who brought our food and she said they were working on it. It never came out. It was a let down at every corner. Which was really disappointing for our lunch stop.
