I love baker and commons so so so much. Perfect neighborhood breakfast and brunch spot. I have one note. PLEASE start making GLUTEN FREE BREAD available!!! BC has my favorite sandwich ever and I can't eat it anymore because I was recently diagnosed celiac. I would miss it so much. Willing to pay an extra few dollars for bread I can eat. Picture of sandwich attached. It's really good and I would like to eat it again.

This is one of my go to coffee spots. Great oatmilk lattes served in a bowl! Definitely get your moneys worth. I've tried the savory cheddar & scallion scone along with the biscuit and jam. Both items are very flavorful with a soft flaky texture. I love all of the outdoor seating too. The inside seating is usually crowded and the acoustics make it very loud! It tends to be a bit humid inside as well, so outside is always my preference.

Lovely biscuits with sausage gravy and a poached egg. Cool atmosphere and friendly service. Super drip coffee. Insane bakery case!! The sausage gravy is a tad salty -- not a dealbreaker but worth knowing about.

Food was cold (wasn't supposed to be). Coconut cream pie was heavy and not fabulous.

Still absolutely love this spot. I just got my boss a whole chocolate cream pie for her birthday. I had reached out to inquire over Instagram and they made it so easy. The owner is so kind and helpful. The desserts are just so yummy and homey. They are always busy which makes me happy.

They served me a bowl of coffee which was pretty hard to drink? It was delicious, but why not use a cup? The food was ok, but they didn't warm it up or anything...I don't think I'm going to go out of my way to come here again.

absolute BOWL of a coffee that's made well and tastes good can and will change your life. although the food is on the pricier end for what it may be worth, the pastries are mind blowing and there's no rush to get on up out of your seat. If I lived any closer you might find me here every day with a gigantor coffee and a book from next door.

Wait, like it's really delicious. My friend raved about this place. Now I won't shut up about it too. I've gotten the biscuit, biscuit sandwich, quiche, soup of the day, avocado toast, and drinks. My favorite is the biscuit. Best biscuit in the area. I really like their soups too. Overall, everything is good. I'm not much of a coffee drinker but it's pretty yummy. Food was ready fast too. Lovely spot to catch up with friends over delicious food and drinks.

Baker and Commons is the kind of spot that earns its line out the door... and honestly, it's worth the wait. The buttermilk biscuits are a must, especially with the butter and daily jam (raspberry today which happens to be my favorite). As someone with UK family, I'll just say these are the closest thing to a proper scone I've had in California. I also had the shakshuka, which was rich and flavorful, though I do wish it came with more bread. The real star, though, was the mocha. Probably the best I've ever had... get the large if you're planning to stay awhile. Despite the crowd, the staff kept things moving and friendly. The space feels casual and cozy with that signature Berkeley buzz. Great prices, great food, great vibe. A no-brainer for brunch.

amazing quiche and ambiance. would definitely return. it gets a long line in the morning so make sure to come early on weekends before they sell out

Outstanding hours and interior spaces - good desserts and ok pricing. I love the hours of this bakery. I actually was looking to go to Nabolom but they close at 2pm on most days - this conveniently is right next door. I can't tell you how much I appreciate a place like this open late - its casual and perfect for visiting with friends. A bar area available too for mingling if your dining solo. Good desserts - but for almost every dessert I saw room for improvement. To start with mango pannacotta had 1/4'' of water on top. Probably wasn't too fresh and was way too sweet. I get these in Little Italy in SF and was shocked by how sweet it was. Owners need to try what they serve at Stellas - not saying its the more authentic way but this was super sweet. The chocolate cream pie had a delicious rich flavor and texture and the crust flavorfully toasty but the crust was soggy. On this dessert I would blind bake the crust add a thin layer of melted chocolate to the crust and then fill in the chocolate cream. Leave off the bits of chocolate on top - doesn't add anything the way a layer of chocolate between the layers would to keep things from getting soggy the next day. Blueberry bread pudding was ok - but it was one big clump like it always is. I hate to say it but this dessert could be so much better if it was two layers - one layer of bread and one layer of pudding - its so easy - I make better bread pudding at home myself and am a novice. The tiny $1 almond pastry was perfect. If I had a cup of coffee and a few of those it would be 10/10. Maybe if you got this far just do that.

I only have great things to say about this place. I usually come for the freshly made baked goods, and I decided to come for the food. From the 2 dishes I got, I think I would still stick to their goodies at the counter. Going to try other dishes still though! Service is great, you order at the counter and take your name tag to the table and they bring the food out. Quaint spot but so lively with families and students.

The first time I passed by this shop with my son he explained that there is always a line outside. My wife and I came here for some breakfast and surprise... there was a line outside. Now I know why. Only one person taking orders and people deciding what they wanted when they got to the front of the line. My wife and I were no different. There was so much on display that we could not decide what we wanted to do. They have an extremely friendly team who walked us through the process of ordering, taking a seat and waiting for our food. I did get a cup of their excellent coffee to wait with. We found a comfortable seat and waited (just a few minutes for our food.) The egg sandwiches (see photos) were amazing... Fresh eggs with either fresh bacon or sausage on these incredible biscuits. These were truly delicious and a treat. My wife and I enjoyed it all so much. The cinnamon muffin was awesome. This is such a great spot for both the locals and visitors. A cozy spot to hang at with friends and enjoy some really good food [and coffee.] We are definitely looking forward to our next visit. KUDOs to the team at Baker & Commons.

Hello, Do you serve GF bread?

Do they do the build your own Mac and cheese like Elmwood cafe did? Really hope so. Such a great fall meal.

Don't know, but I suspect that if they do it wouldn't be as good as what Elmwood did. I base this on our experience with their chicken curry sandwich -- one of Elmwood's best offerings -- which they totally did wrong. Please see my review for…

The space is lovely. I love a cafe that has different seating options in terms of height, and there is a lovely spacious outdoor area as well. It's functions well as a work and social gathering space. I tried a guava pastry that was delicious and got a lot of work done (I worked in 3 spots since I like to move around when I work). Service was great, and there are so many drink options as well! Looking forward to returning soon!

Part coffee shop, part cocktail bar - I'll take one of each please! They make good, hand-crafted cocktails; the espresso martini, topped with ancho chili powder is my partner's favorite, he will request to go here specifically for this beverage. I don't believe they have a food program besides some pastries. Would love to see some breakfast and lunch options offered; it would entice us to hang out even longer. Music is good and upbeat - definitely extra points from me on that. Pay attention to the leaflets/posters and other materials they have at the entrance and around the establishment, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you find. Last time we were in, I picked up a calendar of free classes on various highly useful skills, offered by a local organization. I highly recommend checking out the classes, and would have never found them if not for Mother Tongue. Open 7 to 7 daily, which is great. We'll be in again soon.

We only waited about 10 minutes before we were seated. The service was quick, we didn't wait long for our food and we got checked in on a lot. We sat upstairs, which must be new because I don't recall them having an upstairs dining area. But it was really nice and the noise level was perfect enough to listen to the company you are with. Didn't feel packed at all. I enjoyed the candied bacon, it was one of my favorites when I came the first time and still tastes good as I remember. I ordered the KF chicken and waffles, the chicken was okay but I think it was overly cooked because it was a tad try once I bit into it. My bf got the omurice and he said it was good and filling. I am not a big fan on poutine, my bf said it was good and that the tater tots held their crispiness even after being mixed with the sauce and egg.
