This place makes the most magical treats. I love that they take classic naughty treats from when I was a kid but then make them with wonderful ingredients delicious feelings and love. I actually bought a wedding cake a few years ago for a family bride but never had the chance to visit the store itself. So I FINALLY was able visit just the other day & specifically came for their Passion (today's was strawberry) Flakies, as they are only sold on weekend. I have been obsessing to try these for over a year now. In high school, I was addicted to the Vachon version, so happy they have made their own (sans chemicals) & am happy to report they deliver on light creamy jam deliciousness! How could you not love this spot... they have Snoop Dog's face on a cookie. If that doesn't make you spin your head in their direction, I don't know what will. The interesting thing about this spot is that they're catering to every interest of the spectrum. Tongue in cheek humour that makes you laugh on a cookie... absolutely hilarious (I even think they do Drake lyrics). They also do custom cakes with intricate lace and beautiful flowers as well. Also, they have ICE CREAM! In general, it can be your all-purpose spot for sweets. Service here is really nice. I mean, best friends and long term neighbourhood bartender nice. I saw more than one person hug the staff here. That is not your normal run of mill factory store... it's a sign the store is integrated into the community at a personal level. As for atmosphere, it's cute, it's light, it's vibrant. You can't get any better than this spot. There is some stand up seating if you want to eat but it's mostly take out. Bourbon peach hand pie - This is NOT your pop tart... not even close. This is flakey light pie dough that is delicately wrapped and surrounding true to fruit jam. It just also happens to be flavoured with some bourbon. I did like how it wasn't a sugar bomb even with that glaze on top. It tasted mostly of lightly sweetened fresh peach and then this short burst of sweetness from the glaze. This isn't your momma's pop tart. This is your made from scratch grandma pop tart. 4/5 S'mores - Another item that is nostalgia on a plate except your camp fire s'mores have never had it this good. I've never really loved smores as a child but this upgraded version deserves to be loved. Unlike the stale and gummy weird smelling marshmallows from the bag, this one is a pillow of happiness... soft and bouncy, it is the perfect large blanket on top of the flavourful graham and smears of chocolate underneath. 4/5 I do find this bakery to be a wonderful hub for the neighbourhood. So many times people would pop in and just say hi as I was enjoying my treats. I can see why. In my short time here, I felt welcomed and invited to try the many different tastes and ideas. My bae surprised me in May with an epic salted caramel cake for my birthday celebration from the Bake Shoppe - it was so so good! I decided to order a cake over the phone for my friend's birthday last month. The woman who took my order was super friendly and helpful - she made the process very easy. I paid half via credit card then the remainder in person when we picked up the cake. I opted for the double vanilla cake with a personalized topper. The birthday girl loved her cake and ended up taking the rest of it with her to the club to eat after a big night out haha. They also offer cookies with famous people on them (picture perfect for the 'gram!) along with other delicious baked goods in store. We also picked up an EPIC smores dessert when we grabbed the cake - chocolate, graham crackers, and toasted marshmallow goodness!! Love the wall of cakes they have as soon as you walk in. One is a mom-and-pop business on the east end with scrumptious creations and zero pretension (The Sleepy Baker); another turns on my inner geek girl with their creative blend of fan culture and baked goods (Cakes Cove); and then we have this cool kid, all pretty and playful. You're killing it, Bake Shoppe. They've done really well with the rebranding (same location and owners of the Wedding Cake Shop). Good music, cute concepts (e.g. rap series cookies) and a touch of that Petra Collins & clan colour palette. The actual shop has a neon pink "Baked" sign (love my button!) and a modern mural. I feel some Milk Bar vibes, but this seems fresher and with more indie spirit at this point. So beyond cakes and cupcakes, what do they offer? A fun and contemporary take on nostalgic eats. What an awesome place! The unique cakes on the wall, the display of pretty treats, the neon "Baked" sign and the dainty plates! It certainly is a great spot to visit for something sweet. I tried the ruffles marshmallow bar, the strawberry raspberry pop tart. The ruffles bar was a good combination of sweet and salty. It tastes exactly as you imagine it: like a rice krispies treat with chips instead! The pop tart was flakey and soft, and very sweet too. Some people may find the jam filling a bit too sweet but I think it was okay. I think I'd prefer it better if it was crispier like pie crust, so there'd be a greater contrast in texture. I have only had the cupcakes here but I must say that they are doing everything right. The frosting is balanced and delicious. Not too sweet and with a pleasing soft texture. Not like other bakeries that have really gritty too saccharine frosting (may or may not rhyme with shmairie shmirl). They have also mastered moist cake. I want to try their other treats and we are planning on getting our wedding cake done here. We are super picky with our cakes and this is the first place to meet our standards. The 4 stars is because they only have 3 flavours and one is red velvet. I hate red velvet. But I imagine they do it well. read more

I'll discuss each separately: The Vanilla cake slice was awesome. The ratio of sponge cake to icing was perfect! The three levels of thick sponge between smooth icing was definitely a treat. The chocolate brownie was great. The texture of the brownie wasn't dense and was suprisingly light! I'm a huge fan of brownies and this definitely satisfied my chocolate tooth! I'm officially a huge fan of Brown Butter Nutella cookies! It's a Nutella filled chocolate cookie ... just try one! For just over $2, you can't go wrong. Finally, the music the staff chose, in my humble opinion was on point! We walked in hearing Outkast and finished our treats to ATribe called Quest. I'm huge fan of 90's Hip Hop and it's clear that the staff is too! At the register, I noticed sugar cookies with Biggie, Missy Elliott and Drake. Off to the side on a separate display, an ODB sugar cookie smiled at me. This definitely made my day. Overall, I'd highly recommend Bake Shoppe! Garbage. Walked in and asked for a Salted Caramel cake, which took like 20 minutes just to bring out from the kitchen, but that would have been negligible if the cake was any good. When we got home and had a slice, it was just terrible. The thick icing felt and tasted like chewing up unflavored plastic clay, and the cake itself was crazy dry, like a display cake that had been sitting out for weeks. We thought maybe we were just... bad at eating cake?? So we gave the rest of the cake to a friend in hopes it wouldn't go completely to waste, who promptly messaged us to confirm that it was too gross to eat. Have had WAY better cake from Metro and only got one from here because it seemed like a fancy indulgence, but all it amounted to was a total waste of money. I don't like actual Poptarts, I never understood why so many kids did, but these grownup Poptarts... wow! The strawberry filling was so intensely flavourful, I wish I could buy a jar of it! The pastry light, tender and tasty, and the icing on top it necessary to make it look like a Poptart, but it was my least favourite part of the pastry. I really enjoy the goodies at the bake shoppe and it is turning into my go-to place for cakes. We really enjoy the poptarts filled with kitten and the bear jams. As well as the potato chips crispy. I've tried the smore and its good but very sweet. Xmas time we bought the cookies. Everything is good and I'd give it a 5 star but unfortunately it is quite pricey... So they lose a star for that. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the staff that I dealt with when I went in store was extremely rude. They couldn't care less that I was in the store, and I even was with a friend. We were very excited to try the cookies we've heard so much about, and yet we were made to feel like we were wasting the precious time of the staff member we had dealt with. Other than that, the cookies and homemade pop tart was absolutely delicious. Mind you, I don't live close to their College & Ossington store but it's worth the trip. The shop itself is pretty small and you can tell that they make everything fresh since you can see people baking behind the counter. i was really excited to order a cake from here because theyre so cool and pop culture relevant. so i got the drake cake for my bfs birthday. i emailed and they responded super quick and choosing the flavour i wanted was super easy and customizable. but when we got the cake she told me to leave it out to thaw-dont put it in the fridge...ok...so the cake was frozen? weird.. then when i took it home and cut it , the flavour was supposed to be ferrero rocher and none of us tasted that at all. the cake its self was moist and yummy but the cream filling was meh, not much flavour or even sugar. the outside buttercream was also weird..kind of plasticky and coated your mouth. i like their designs but for the flavour i was really disappointed. you can get yummier cakes from a local grocery shop or bakery instead of trekking here if you live out of the way like i did. read more

Absolutely terrible service and very sparse selection. I called twice, at least 4 hours ahead of time, wanting to pick up half a dozen cupcakes and cookies. I specifically mentioned that I wanted a 'Happy Birthday' message written on one of the cookies - just as is advertised on their website - and was told that would be okay. Upon arriving, I had to wait a couple minutes before a very rude attendant came to the front and basically suggested that I was lying. Forget that there were only 2 flavours of cupcakes and cookies left, she also insisted that I must have misheard on the phone because I would need to order day(s) in advance just to have Happy Birthday be written on *one* cookie. After my insisting, she eventually did write the message but it was overall such a disheartening experience. The lady acted like she was doing me a huge favour, and despite my best efforts to keep the conversation cordial and wishing her a good day at the end, she slammed the register, gave me a dirty look and strode back to the kitchen. Experiences like this make me wonder if she would have treated me this way if I was white or if I had attended with white friends. Take your business elsewhere. read more

A couple of days ago I came to the Bake Shoppe to get a bday cake for my fiance. I came around noon, picked the flavor and wrote the text for the inscription and left the cake at the shop to be picked in the evening. When I came in the evening, I was given the cake with no inscription and was told that for some reason they forgot to do it and at that time there was nobody at the store who could write it on the cake. Needless to say, I was upset, the cake is more than just filling and frosting, its an experience. I planned to present it at a surprise party with candles and the whole point of getting it from a specialized bakery and not some grocery store was really the customized experience. I barely got any apology from the store attendant and no offer of compensation of any sort. She wrote the inscription with a black marker on a piece of plastic and stuck in on top of the cake. $34 completely wasted. Will never trust this place again. read more
