In researching for new and interesting things to do around the island, I discovered this lovely tea shop and their afternoon tea offerings. I'll admit that I wasn't sure if my friend and mother would be into it (I was thinking maybe it would be too corny for them) - but we all ended up LOVING the experience, so much so that my friend came back a couple weeks later with his own mother. The shop itself offers a wonderful array of loose leaf teas and other items like bath & body gift sets, candles, gems, incense, tarot cards, and so on. I'm not into tarot or anything, but I kinda regret not picking up the package of "Wise Dog Tarot" cards just for the novelty of having them. That said, I *did* pick up multiple loose leaf teas from their selection, as well as a couple other gifts. As for the afternoon tea itself, it could not have been more delightful. The cottage where they offer most of their afternoon teas is sweetly decorated - and you can pick out your own tea cup/dish set, try on (surprisingly sturdy) tiaras (if that's your thing), sample a couple teas after reading their thorough menu of loose leaf teas that can be brewed (including those that can tend to various health priorities), all while you also get to enjoy a variety of scones (with jam and clotted cream), sorbet, and lovingly presented finger sandwiches, soup, and desserts on a classic, tea-time curate. While the price may seem a bit much at first, you're not just paying for the food and tea, but you're receiving an experience... and while I had my doubts initially, I can now say without any doubt that the thoughtfulness and service-mindedness that are put into the afternoon tea experience are worthy of the price tag. Also, myself, my friend, and my mother all agreed that we were surprisingly full by the end of our tea time! An exceptional experience all around and I would recommend the afternoon tea to anyone and everyone. :-)

I bought two herbal teas: relief and detox. The ingredients looked so good! I asked if anything contained stevia or sugars and was told none of their teas have that. Yay.

Hi Life is a definite must-visit on Bainbridge that is on par with some of my favorite spots in the…read morecity. They have a large but not overwhelming menu, with daily specials that are worth perusing. My friends and I came for lunch right after getting off the ferry, and were pretty hungry. I had the islander bento, which was a special that day, and included chowder, area 206 curry, crab salad, seaweed salad, and a chef's choice poke on rice. Two friends had the tofu poke bowl, and one had the house udon with sukiyaki beef. We were all really happy with our food, and I want to point out how awesome it is that they have a vegetarian option in the tofu poke bowl that is actually tasty and satisfying for the vegetarians. My friend who had the udon said it was really flavorful and that the beef was tender and delicious. I loved everything in my bento and think it's a great way to try a bunch of different items. The chef's choice poke was a mayo based tuna poke, and while I usually go for the more shoyu sauce-based pokes, I actually really liked this one. I did not feel like the sauce overpowered the fresh flavor of the fish. Service was friendly and fast, and they have some seating inside and quite a bit of seating outside. I think the concept is really cool and the food is great. I also love me a highball so I want to try one of those next time.

This was my first time visiting the island and my main motive was to try the Poke Sho-Ka-Do Box at Hi Life. The Hi-Life's signature poke sampler box contains eight types of poke (three varieties of ahi and Atlantic salmon, one scallop, and one tako). Before arriving, I had no idea that it would be $40.00. I ordered it regardless because I still wanted it. It was quite unfortunate that this does not come with a side of rice. You need to order rice separately, which I ended up not doing and regret. Honestly, the fish quality was okay. I was overwhelmed with how much sauce the fish were drowned in. It really gave me the ick after eating it for a while. I ate it all because I knew it would not be ideal to save any to eat later since it was hot outside and I was planning to be on the island for a few hours.

It's clear this was the case for others as well, as there was a large line extending outside the door onto the sidewalk when we arrived around 10:00 a.m. I ordered their multigrain toast with jam along with a savory croissant. The toast comes heavily buttered and the savory croissant for the day was topped with the fillings you'd fine in a spanakopita -- i.e. spinach and feta. I really loved the thickness of the toast slice and the degree that they toasted it: soft and fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. They did not hold back from including a bunch of seeds in the bread, and that added a nice texture in every bite. The jam is on the sweeter side, but I like that it's on the side so you can control exactly how much sweetness you want to add. The savory croissant had good flakiness to it, but it would have been nice if we had an option to have it toasted. Overall, very good bakery that I'd gladly visit again if I'm back on Bainbridge Island. Definitely get the toast.

Our favorite place for a great smash-burger, Hitchcock's! The place was busy as expected on a warm autumn evening, but we were in luck. We were greeted promptly and a table for two had just been cleared. Service is always friendly here but the kitchen can get a little behind on a busy evening, but again we were in luck. We ordered our burgers, mine a double with onions pressed into the patty and one order of fries to share. The kitchen got the order out promptly. Yummy! BTW we chose to eat in the bar area, it can be a bit noisy, we like it! But if you're looking for quiet conversation ask for a table in the back or out on the sidewalk.
