Bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel
Simone S.

This place is very easy to miss but I'm glad I found it. I called to order and then went to pick up. Btw it's the sidewalk portion of the mini mall near the Dunkin' Donuts, not inside near the parking lot. *for anyone else like me and can't figure it out * Anyways, when I found it there was a line outside, despite it being bone chilling cold. That's always a good sign. I picked up my order, bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. So simple but so easy to mess up. I'm glad I was not disappointed. The bagel tasted fresh, chewy but not gummy, and the everything seasoning was everything with that hint of salt that so many others miss causing them to fall flat. The bacon ratio was perfect cause we all know places tend to be stingy. My only complaint was the egg ratio was sparse. It looked like there was literally one large egg on it, not 2 or even a jumbo or something. But I was satisfied. I'll definitely be returning.

Tuna

The ordering is great. Sanitary etc. That's what the three stars are for. Bagel was a regular bagel. Reminds me of ordering off the coffee carts in the city during the 80's and 90's before going to school. What you put on a bagel MATTERS. The tuna had no veggies. No powdered seasonings to make up for lack of veggies....not even a lil garlic powder and onion powder. Also it's was a lil smear of tuna. I could not finish it. That's not a NY tuna on bagel. The veggie cream cheese tasted good, it was just missing half the serving size. Great for kids grabbing something before school or the older folks grabbing something to gab over. I will give this a pass.

When I lived in Co-op City, I loved stopping here for a toasted buttered bagel brekkie before heading off to elementary school. Their bagels are so fresh and they prepare your order exactly as you specify. Asking for extra butter will definitely get you a heaping portion of butter. They have everything from cinnamon raisin bagels to mini bagels and even bialys. They also have breakfast sandwiches and beverages. It's a small establishment but better than the Dunkin Donuts around the corner.

Scallion cream cheese, mediocre and little scallion flavor
Rose L.

Rude, unfriendly girl at the register aside, the bagels are just ok. They're not inedible or anything, but they're very fat, doughy, bready, soft bagels and lack the flavor and chew I personally prefer in NY bagels. The scallion cream cheese I got was almost all cream cheese with only a little scallion mixed in. It has very little scallion flavor, and I would not recommend. I can understand that people would go here bc the bagel options are scarce in the area, but in my opinion, it's def not a 4 or 5 star bagel by any stretch of the imagination.

Service: 10/10 The employees were very friendly. They were kind and had a nice smile on their face. That is what customers should be looking for when being approached by waiters or waitresses. They were very helpful with the menu option. Food: 10/10 I started with their hot chocolate with whipped cream. Man! It was delicious. The whipped cream, by the way, is optional. It does not automatically come with the hot chocolate. The texture was just right. I picked a good day to drink hot chocolate. I have also ordered their standard Belgian Waffles with a side of sausage. I have to admit, I was slightly disappointed with the quantity of the waffle. They only give you one. Additionally, you'd have to ask for the butter. Butter does not automatically come with the waffles. The syrup is or at least should already be on the table once you're seated. Even though I only got one waffle, it was delicious. Furthermore, you have the option to add whipped cream to the waffles. They will add the whipped cream to the waffles for you. The same can be applied to pancakes. When all is said and done, they will offer you a blow-pop lollipop. Overall 9.5/10 I will be back. I am unsure if they do reservations. It wouldn't be surprising if they did. Their menu options and pricing were reasonable.

It looks like, and kind of feels like, a diner, but it's so much more. We were super excited to find Latin American cuisine favorites that we love and don't often find near home. I had a Cuban Medianoche sandwich that was served on absolutely excellent bread, with curly fries. My husband, the carnivore, ended up with some kind of multiple meat sandwich that came on the same amazing roll. (Before you think it's weird for me to rave about the ROLL, where we live in central PA, there is no good bread. Just saying!) I also had to get an order of tostones because I love them so much. They came with a garlic sauce that was intense and delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. I got the impression that this is a neighborhood joint with lots of regulars. I had my mind set on ordering…read morenonfortified red sangria, but discovered they only have brandy or other liquor infused sangria they make in small batches. You cannot order a fresh carafe or pitcher of sangria with the fruit in it here, which is what I was expecting from a place headlining sangria. So your experience of the Sangria Cafe for sangria will come down to whether you like yours fortified. I like my sangria freshly made to order with just the wine and chopped fruit, but you may have a better experience at Sangria Cafe if you prefer fortified sangria. So the Manager, Elios, was superb. He told me he would let me taste the red, white and lychee versions to see which one I preferred. Given they are all fortified to an extent, I chose to order margaritas. I prefer mezcal margaritas, but they did not have mezcal at the time. So I went with the tequila classic. It was good and I had it to go for my evening at a cigar lounge. I also ordered food to go: the French cut pork chops with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus and the braised beef short rib with small potatoes and broccoli. Here's a twist: the food was better than the adult beverage at a place emphasizing the latter. At all times, my server, Hector, was superb in his own right. Service is probably the strong suit at Sangria Cafe, followed by the food. The French cut pork chops taste like they have been marinated or at least brined. You will eat these down to the bone and you will pick up those bones to clean them. The garlic mashed potatoes were great too, but the asparagus was a bit overcooked. On balance, this $30 dish was satisfying and would have been better had they included a little gravy on the side for the mashed potatoes. The beef short rib at $38 was even tastier. I appreciate the chef took the time to get a good cut of short rib and trimmed the excess fat down to a leaner cut. The meat is inherently marbled with fat, so the flavor is already going to be as present as the savory tenderness. If you dine at a restaurant where there is excess fat on the beef short rib, know the chef there is not putting in the work to trim all that fat. Coudos to the chefs in the Sangria Cafe kitchen for their trimming work. This is even better than the pork chops and you'll savor every bite. The broccoli was overcooked here, so the chefs could restrain themselves on the cooking time for the veggies. The small potatoes were perfect and what is not to like about marbled beef and potatoes. Here they have a little gravy with cooked onions to add to the savory pleasure. The Sangria Cafe is a great place to come with friends. This place will see lots of action as the weather warms. The atmosphere is upbeat and the music is in full swing. This is a Latino and Afro Latino crowd. The kitchen and service are very good here. Perhaps I'm in the minority preferring nonfortified sangria, but I wish that were an option with the chopped fruit in it. Perhaps the majority prefers the fortified hit, but it would be nice to have it more relaxed with just the wine as summer approaches or at any time of the year. Please keep the mezcal in stock as SOP for the mezcal margs. Thanks to Elios, Hector and the chefs in the kitchen. 3.5 stars.
