BEC w/ hash brown on a rainbow bagel. The hash brown is great addition if you're hungover.
Lauren D.

As you will see in nearly all other reviews, the customer service here is subpar, UNLESS you know how to order. I used to tell my friends to expect rudeness and coach them on how to order because they are very specific. But! As my 5 star review reflects, I love this place. My partner and I don't ask if we want to get Bagel Zone, but ask "you want MBL?" for Mean Bagel Lady. That's just how it is , she's rude but has great bagels‍ the sandwiches hit the spot and it's the best (only?) quick bagel sandwiches around that aren't Dunkin or Starbucks. Some things to note! -can't go wrong with a classic BEC. If you don't know what BEC means-- Sorry plz get up to my breakfast sandwich standards. -I like mine on a rainbow bagel...slightly chewier than plain bagel and it's fun to see what colors they are. Sometimes it's horrendous green that is unappetizing to most but I love it. MBL will get excited at the pattern when she cuts them open and it's great. -in the fall she makes homemade apple pie cream cheese that is the most amazing flavor you will ever taste. Limited quantities so get it while you can. I missed it this fall completely -you absolutely cannot get both cream cheese and an egg on the bagels. Don't ask. -you also can't walk in and buy a half dozen or dozen bagels on most days cuz they need them for the sandwiches?? Idk just call ahead the day before if you want em. -during all of covid they didn't wear masks at all even when it was full on mandated here!! And now suddenly they are wearing masks and have signs posted all over and won't serve you if you aren't masked when the guidelines are gone. It makes no sense but oh well. -MBL has been quite chipper lately! Every time I have been in there lately she is so happy and hasn't been rude (except to the frat star who kept approaching the counter after the two workers said "you need a mask" about 5x). Not sure what's changed but she has been so nice. Sadly the complex is being bought out so they are either moving or closing down for good. I am hopeful they will get the new location so I can continue getting MBL while I'm here!

"Poppy" bagel

Ordered a poppy bagel toasted with cream cheese. Got a sesame, bordering on burnt with so little cream cheese it was a melted runny mess. Quality of the bagel itself commensurate to Dunkin' Donuts. Bummer. First and last visit.

Sausage, Egg, and Cheese on a Sesame Bagel

The bagels and breakfast sandwiches are good but the service is definitely a hit or miss. My sandwiches are usually pretty oily and greasy, but the ingredients are fresh and the bagels aren't as doughy as traditional ones. The woman behind the counter is usually pretty rude so I typically expect it before I go in. The layout is also kind of weird, the bagels aren't facing outward so it's hard to see, and the woman gets mad when you ask if they have a certain bagel. I basically only come here because it's the only decent "traditional" bagel place that is within a 5 minute drive of the Storrs campus.

Bacon, egg, and cheese, with a hash brown... because you can never go wrong ;) On a egg onion bagel.

Tried again, good basic diner fare…read more On my re-trek of breakfast spots, decided to give this place another try as it's outside my normal travel zone and the previous experience was lacking. Inside is nice, homey and marches the vibe of a classy New England breakfast dining space. Server was manning the counter and was attentive and helpful. Menu took pride in its Benedict's, and I saw they did a biscuit and gravy. So I opted for their biscuit Benedict to see how that fared. With a side of corned beef hash. Food came out quickly, took pics and dug in. The Benedict was an assembly line Bennie. Biscuits were freshly made in house but salty, eggs perfectly poached and hollandaise was savory. Sausage was a generic sausage patty, and hash browns were delightfully crispy potato pieces. The corned beef hash was cooked well, loaded with lots of meat and very little potato. Which was good, cause the potato was undercooked. I was also overcharged for the corned beef hash, charged the full price when it should've been the add on price. Was 5 bucks additional, but still not cool. As a diner, it checks all the boxes. Good cheap food done well enough. It's nothing to call home about, but a place to go if you're in UConn and have the family visiting.

The coffee was a bit cold, but the flavor of Dulce de Leches was there. The food was delicious, but the star of the menu I would have to say were those tasty home fries, well seasoned crunchy on the outside soft on the inside! It was a cozy small location in the beautiful city of Coventry, but I do believe that it's time for a bigger location or maybe a secondary one

It's okay but pricy…read more I've been to this location a few more times since my last review. The last couple of times the place was very busy and getting seating was not possible. During my last visit it was relatively quiet, so I took a seat and went through the menu. My server was very friendly and professional. I took her recommendations and got the churro crepes and peppermint latte. Latte came out quick, same with the crepe. The latte was very sweet, lots of sugar and mint. Coffee flavor was obliterated, and was a bit much for me. Informed my server, offered a drip coffee as a replacement but I opted against. The crepe was going to be a lot of sugar too, so just sent it back. She communicated with her team to watch the syrup pours for future drinks, which is a good proactive move. The churro crepes. Conceptually is a good idea. The cheesecake filling was tasty and a reprieve from the avalanche of caramel syrup and sugar. The churros were warmed up but the server was very honest that they were not made on the spot. Outside of the churro was crunchy and inside was stuffed. The crepe was not warm, so I don't think it was made fresh to order either. When I asked the server, she insisted it was made to order. The price was 21 for the latte and crepe. The price of the crepe was high for the quantity and quality. The latte was reasonable for price, but might want to ask to go light on the syrup. Given the location, it's one of the few breakfast spots around that area. It's not bad, but they do price accordingly for the lack of competition. It's not a trek place, but it's one of the few options around without driving 15 minutes. If you need breakfast in that area, then it works.

We were seated pretty quickly and the waitress was very helpful. The place itself is pretty quiet other than the other conversations going on. There is a ramp to get inside with or stairs.
