WOW... This place is a winner. They have always been a top notch bagel shop. We have been coming here for years but apparently not frequently enough. There bagels are great! This is a good size shop in the Holiday Park shopping center. Much has changed in the last 60 years but Bagel Plaza is still here. It's a real easy in and out onto Merrick Blvd and the parking lot is ample size to hold all the cars for all the stores located here. Bagel plaza is a nice size shop with plenty of seating. You walk in and are directed through the ordering line (counter). Place your order, pay and leave or sit and enjoy. We chose the latter. We definately enjoyed our bagels (or flats) withe a delicious lox-cream cheese spread and vegetable cream cheese. Both these items we teriffic. I brought home some bagels and bialys and really enjoyed my bialy. They do a great job here. Their wonderful-friendly team really rounds out the experience. As a Muslim who only eats Halal, I've always felt safe eating here because Kosher food aligns closely with our dietary needs--it's very Muslim-friendly. Even after moving away, I've made it a point to visit every time I'm in town, as it's a place tied to fond memories and great food. Unfortunately, my most recent visit over Thanksgiving break left me feeling unwelcome and alienated. The political statement displayed at the door felt divisive and unwelcoming, particularly to Muslims. While I've always appreciated Bagel Plaza's inclusivity, this experience has left me questioning whether it still aligns with the values I once associated with it. Updating... Summary: tl/dr: food great, logistics terrible, go early, or deal with rush. The establishment has a responsibility to make things better. It's only my opinion (which doesn't mean much), that changes are needed. If there's a line there's a reason (Brennan and Carr's roast beef, Fiore's mozzarella, Crow's Nest Restaurant, etc). Each of these places figured out how to handle volume. Bagel Plaza has to figure out theirs. Let's start by stating the obvious here. - Bagels and bakery items are great. Bagels are made with their flavors mixed into the dough. E.g. an everything bagel has 'everything' within the bagel and on top. - Most things are made fresh to order. No need to worry about old slimy pre-sliced tomato's, onions, or lox. - Lox are thinly sliced, and even when 'others' slice the lox, I'll take them any day over thick slabs of lox pre-cut and in a pile like other establishments. - Herring in cream sauce and tuna salad are award winning. - Loyal counter help has been around for a long time - some over a decade. - The regular customers are all amazing. To be fair and consistent with a review, there are some areas to evolve. And some of these issues are outright dangerous. With the greatest food in the world, if getting it is a problem, it's a problem. The challenge is with the volume. The secret is out, everyone loves Bagel Plaza. Here are your challenges: - Lawlessness: maybe not this businesses problem, but it's a problem - cars are u-turning on Merrick road to park on the Eastbound side, cars are pulling into the exit of Merrick commons to get in front of the shop, parking in the fire lanes has become accepted practice, parking in front of the bus stop, blocking traffic, and now pulling into the exit to park by the dumpster - all goes. I'd suggest legally parking in Merrick Commons if you can find a spot among the gym goers. - The queuing system is a mess. Not a big problem, but when it's raining out and you have to stand outside waiting to get in, that's no fun. - DoorDash - the conveniences are great, but the 'app' prices are inflated so the costs can be passed onto you instead on the business. I personally think the app platform business is modern racketeering (to consumers, owners and drivers). There are still shops who have their own delivery, and these are great businesses to support. Regardless, many days I'd rather the DoorDash drivers go deal with the mess and I'll pay for that if I have to (begrudgingly). - Text message / online ordering is a joke. You're still standing in the store longer than if you waited on the regular line. And the pickup is chaos too, since you're dealing with text message orders and now the app delivery drivers. The quoted times for online ordering are wrong, misleading, is it lying? Idk. You be the judge. Don't believe the claims you won't have to wait. So this is a unique challenge. A business clearly doing well and having volume far greater than the location, processes or systems were ever built for. Time to get the chief operations over involved, just please don't change any recipes. read more

We had Bagel Plaza cater my daughter's baby naming ceremony today and the food and service was outstanding! We worked with the owners Sam and Yanna and were able to get everything we wanted for a reasonable price. They were also able to provide wait staff to help with setup and cleanup and everything went exactly as planned. All of our guests loved the food and everything tasted delicious and fresh. I moved from the east coast to San Diego. After several years of not being able to give a decent bagel (and forget about good whitefish salad) I figured, "what the heck," and called Bagel Plaza to see if they'd ship me a couple dozen bagels, some sticks, and a couple pounds of chunky whitefish salad. Silence. "Are you serious," they asked? "Completely," I replied. "I have no idea. We'll check and call you back." Long story short, I couldn't afford it at the time. Regardless, every time I take the red eye into JFK I go straight to bagel plaza from the airport at around 6:30am and get all the bagels and whitefish I can eat. This place is amazing. I was craving a bagel with Lox while working locally and my Yelp research efforts lead me to Bagel Plaza " Home of the Bagel". From the moment I stepped foot inside I was in love! I love when Bagel shops offer a plethora of cream cheese spreads. My favorite being Lox and Scallion. The woman behind the counter was very kind and took my order knowing exactly how I wanted my items. I ordered the Lox and Scallion cream cheese spread on a pumpernickel bagel. I paired it with a medium Hazelnut Coffee with Almond Milk. My coffee was perfect. I'm actually not even a fan of hot coffee or hazelnut. Everything was delicious here! The spread was thick and filled with nice diced chunks of Lox. I spent some extra time catching up on reports while in the shop. The seating here is very comfortable and spacious. I looked at the business hours on Yelp and much to my surprise this spot opens at 5:00 a.m!!!!! This is awesome for catering office brunch or fulfilling your craving from the night before. This place is a hard pass for me. The veggies in the cream cheese were in chunks, there was no salt on the outside of the bagel and to top it off it was over $10 for two bagels and an OJ. You can get a full diner breakfast for 2 for $5 more. If it was good it would be worth it but the barks were mediocre and the cream cheese lacked flavor. I think it might have just been the new person there. my bagel did have a thin layer of lox - paper thin... so thin that honestly it tasted just like only cream cheese and not really anything else. Bagel plaza has been my favorite bagel place for the past 30+ years. They have the best bagels, the best cream cheeses, and the best fish. Their cookies and pastries are pretty amazing too (hint: chocolate cheesecake muffins). I have memories of being a kid, my dad going out on Sunday mornings to get breakfast, bringing home bagels and cream cheese and lox and sable and whitefish and herring in cream sauce, and the four of us sitting around the table having brunch. I admit, I have a sentimental bias, and 30 years later, I walk into Bagel Plaza, the same guy is cutting the fish and it makes me a little weepy. I no longer live in the area, but every time I come to visit, a bagel from bagel plaza is on my list of things I want. But bias aside, the bagels are incredibly fresh, soft and fluffy on the inside, and if you get there at just the right time they're still warm with a just-right barely-crispy outside. If they haven't come right out of the oven, I like to get them slightly toasted. The service today was especially great, when I asked for two different types of cream cheese on my bagel, I was asked if I wanted them one on top of each other or side-by-side. That is great attention to detail and customer service. An interesting note: a couple of reviews I read on Google complained that bagel plaza does not serve bacon. They really don't know what they are missing in this area. I tried to use the handy dandy yelp app to find the best bagel place in the Merrick/Bellmore area and only a couple places came up. This place had 4 stars and a whopping eight reviews. Apparently, this is the only game in town for bagels and that is a sad thing, my friend. First off, this is a Kosher place. Not that I couldn't tell from the painting hanging there of Moses at a swim meet (see pic). It depicts Moses parting the water above one of the lanes in the pool so that a Hasidic man can casually jog in the lane to beat the catholic team. I'm not Jewish but that's hilarious. What's not hilarious are the quality of the bagels. I don't know if it has something to do with the Kosher process of bagel making but these bagels were just ok and lacked a flavor. Also, if you expect to get anything with meat you are S.O.L. because they don't serve it here. I had an everything bagel with sun dried tomato cream cheese and I could tell the bagel wasn't fresh. It wasn't even warm. An everything bagel usually has bits of salt in it. This had everything but salt. The cream cheese seemed to be the only highlight of the bagel. People wrote about the different variety of cream cheeses but it was more like an odd variety of cream cheeses and some that should never been made into a flavor. I have no idea why I tried a bit of the chocolate cream cheese. Seemed like an interesting idea at the time. I owe my stomach an apology. At least this place had seating and bathrooms, although it did not feature ample parking. It's part of this huge shopping complex with plenty of parking, however you can't park anywhere near the storefront because it's situated in a fire lane that also serves as the one-way access road out of the complex. At the time, I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with cinnamon raisin cream cheese and have been going back for the exact same thing ever since. The cinnamon raisin cream cheese actually has real raisins, brown sugar and walnuts in it making for a perfect addition to any bagel. Other cream cheese flavors include blueberry, scallion, olive, strawberry and nova. Bagel Plaza is a kosher establishment that also serves grilled sandwiches, cookies, cakes, salads, muffins, scones, bialys, knishes, coffees, teas and other baked goods. I'm not a huge fan of bagels, but the muffins here are spectacular. Try a mini muffin, or gorge on a regular sized one. They have everything here, Raisin Bran, orange cranberry, blueberry, chocolate, chocolate chip, banana, corn, etc etc, with and without cream cheese baked in. They're different day by day, today I saw some very green looking pistachio muffins. Pro tip: halve and toast! They're flexible if you want to make up an order that's not on the menu, like an omelette or something. Not as many options here as at bagel boss, but it's a quieter place to sit and brunch with a friend. Plenty of seating around the side, and lots of parking in the lot. Bagel Plaza is my favorite bagel shop in Merrick which has a handful bagel places right next to each other. The bagels have a balanced density. My favorite bagel is the pumpernickel bagel; I highly recommend it if you like fennel seeds. They have a wide selection of spreads and salads including a dozen types of cream cheese. My favorite cream cheese is the sun dried tomato one. What sets bagel plaza apart from all of the other bagel shops is its selection of fishes. They have the best lox, sable, and tuna in the area. This is the only bagel shop in the area that I go to for smoked fish. Also, their smooth whitefish spread is one of the best. I highly recommend the fishes here with your bagel. Note that it is a kosher bagel shop, so they do not have meats. They do have plenty of pastries. The also have a few russian influenced premade dishes in case you want to try something a little different. I have been coming here for years. I actually prefer this place over Bagel Boss! The bagels are alway fresh, the customer service is always great. The line moves quickly and efficiently. The establishment is overall pleasant with a nice area in the back to sit with some booths and nice art work. The bagel, cream cheese, salads and dessert choices are excellent and I am never disappointed. Their coffees are large, I think their large iced coffee is over 30 ounces give or take. Their bagel specials which come with a choice of different side salads are very good and reasonably priced. Although I think some of the side salads can be s bit over-priced. I would also like to add my recent discovery of Gluten Free Bagels which are made from Tapicoa, which is different from the usual potato ingredients often used in gluten free products. I went for breakfast and wanted a carrot cake muffin. However they were out so the guy working suggested what I swear he called a "good morning" muffin. It was carroty, cinnamon-y, with bran and nuts inside I believe and powdered sugar on top. YUM.
