Okay, the bad reviews are bizarre. The best bagels in the world are at Fairmount Bagels in Montreal, but Bagel Hound's bagels are the pinnacle of a New York/American-style bagel. They are chewy and crusty and appropriately dense and delicious . They are not giant and puffy in the way that NY style bagels have become. They are seedy. They mosty make the authentic kinds (sesame, poppy, salt, onion, etc.). The scallion cream cheese is great. They are friendly. I can't speak to the bagel sandwiches, but it is mainly and obviously a bagel shop, not a place to sit and have a relaxing brunch. Go and get some delicious bagels! read more

I ordered bagels for brunch with my family. We came to the shop to pick them up and then brought them back home. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, onions, and lettuce. My cousin ordered a bagel with a lot of extra butter, and my cousin's boyfriend ordered a turkey BLT. My bagel was great and I got exactly what I ordered. My cousin asked for a lot of butter and they barely gave her any. There was the lightest spread of butter. You could only tell that there was butter because of the slight discoloration on the inside of the bread. My cousin's boyfriend had also gotten a fish BLT instead of a turkey BLT. He hates fish and couldn't eat what was in the bagel. The wait took so long and most of our orders were incorrect. Even though my bagel was delicious the accuracy of the order shouldn't be less than 50%. I was disappointed to be honest. read more

I ordered a bagel with their jalapeno cheddar spread and honestly it was pretty good. You can buy bigger bagels at the grocery store and this one in particular (which was also one of the cheaper ones) was $7-$8 I believe. The bagel is half the size of grocery store bagels for the price of about two 6-packs at the grocery store. Keep in mind: the bagel I ordered was one of the cheaper ones. There were some for $10 and $12 I believe too. My girlfriend ordered a bacon egg and cheese, which was great, but again: much smaller than usual and was somewhere in the ballpark of $8-$9. You're better off going to the grocery store and buying two dozen plus spread for $10-ish. It was a very good bagel, but not worth the price. Most stuff on Cape Cod tends to have jacked up prices anyways, so it isn't surprising, but even at Dunks it would be like $4-$5 for a bagel and spread. I like supporting small businesses, but wow the prices for a breakfast place are a little wild when breakfast is usually the cheapest meal to buy. read more

This review is for the Harwich location (which hasn't yet found its way onto Yelp). I ordered a Smashed Avo Toast bagel sandwich. The cashier was friendly and helpful. The sandwich was ready in just a couple of minutes. Best of all, the sandwich was DELICIOUS: crisp cucumber slices, thick layers of cream cheese and avocado, and just the right amount of salt. It's a messy sandwich; you'll need plenty of napkins. All of this cost only $8.02 with tax. I'll definitely be back. Reward yourself and try it. read more

This is for the new Harwich location. Ordered a Salt and Sesame bagel. Was able to grab a tub of cream cheese b4 I paid. Had to wait 15 minutes for the bagels. Think either cashier or someone else should be able to pull bagels/bag em as it would be super quick. Line was out the door. Sesame delicious. Salt was very hard. It was the only open breakfast place in the area (end of April). Place is small no room to eat inside but they do have outdoor tables. It was hot like hell inside despite it being 53 outside. We ordered 3 premade bagels with egg/cheese/bacon (there was no choice freshly made on the menu) and 3 lattes which came out to $41 w/ tip. Unfortunately food was no good. Latte was the worst I have ever tied I almost threw it away. Bagels were stale and hard like cardboard. Eggs were bad and very hard and cheese wasn't even melted. Guy at the counter wasn't friendly, just very indifferent... They have tons of t-shirts and other merchandise for sale but they should really concentrated on the food instead. read more

Been vacationing at the cape for the past 20 years and never found a good bagel place. My buddy Howard recommended this place and me being from Long Island decided to give it a try. I walked in and staff was very nice and it had a cool feeling in there. As I gazed behind the counter I got a good look at the bagels and knew it wouldn't taste like a NY bagel. I ordered a cheddar bagel, plain bagel, everything and salt bagel. I used my own schmear and lox at home to test if the bagel could go with it. I arrived home and instantly took them out and started to eat. They looked like Rolls. Barely a hole, hard as a brick and the inside was too doughy. I could barely pull it apart with my bite. I'm giving it 2 stars since it had so much hype, but when you visit anywhere that's not NY, you should expect bagels like this. read more

We only vacation here in Wellfleet and the pizza place was an easy first night meal for us so we were sad to see them leave. Upon trying the bagels for the first time, we were blown away. The bagels are well done and made fresh. The cream cheese is light and flavorful. For us to be walking distance, this is a great option for breakfast. First day I went, they sold out by 10am of a lot of items. I got there earlier the next time and there was a line forming 10 minutes before opening. They offer bagels, bagel sandwiches, coffee, and other drinks. Plenty of outdoor seating. There are walk up windows from the outside and inside the building. Great addition to the community and I hope they are around next year when we return. read more

I have been eating these bagels for a few years. They started at a little place in Truro. They were pretty good bagels but as time as evolved, they have turned into amazing bagels. Let me preface. As a kid, I grew up on legit Jewish bagels from Widoff's in Worcester. Turn the clock ahead and I went to every bagel place in Brooklyn on a Bagel Crawl in search of a chewy crusty bagel. Who knew I'd find an excellent version off State Highway in Eastham. Forget the bagels for a minute; the spreads are heaven...my fav is the caper dill whatever the heck it's called. What's the hype about??? Got there after they were open for two hours. Only three types of bagels left and they were only for sandwiches. You could not buy a single bagel. Paid $12.00 for a thrown together sandwich where the person who made it obviously didn't care. Threw the obviously pre measured meat on to only half the bagel with no effort to lie it across the whole bottom. Then then wrapped it in wax paper and then cut it in half! When you grab the "sandwich" out of the bag it falls apart. If you're going to cut it in half. (Not by request) why not wrap it again? Total mess when you have two sandwiches in the same bag. The bagel was like a pretzel and took 20 minutes to get my order too. Other customers were passed it was taking so long for a dimple bagel "schmear"". Good luck to them. So the old JDs pizza closed down and in its place sprung up the Bagel Hound. They had some speed bumps adjusting to the new kind of business ( at their start they did not have a toaster for bagels for weeks) but NOW I do believe they have caught up and have full blown sandwiches as well as coffee, (including Nitro) and just as any Cape roadside business, a full line of retail merchandise including mugs and hoodies. There is a pet friendly outdoor seating area through the back door (not shaded or covered) but it is also rughgt across from the entrance to Marconi Beach - which is the best casual breakfast venue you could ask for ! I enjoy the off the beat spreads and the ability to get veggies on the bagels - not a crazy huge intricate menu , but just enough variety to keep it interesting. They did have some bakery items that looked like sweet croissants I'd like to try as well as their own branded bagel chips. If you are into the smoked salmon and wine with bagels and you don't need it to be formal - this is your best bet as they have a chilled wine fridge as well. Ho hum. Bagel Hiund came SO highly recommended and I went in with such high hopes. I am an admitted bagel snob, having tried every place on the Cape and struggling. NYC set the bar SO VERY high, it's nearly impossible for others to compete. Anyway. I went in hopeful today. I hit 1/2 dozen from the limited selection and took them home with a tub of plain cream cheese to do a side by side blind taste test with an H&H (NYC) with my husband. 1st: size matters. Disappointed with the skinny bagels we picked up here vs H&H. Then, the taste. Lightly toasted, good schmeer. Meh. We taste tested the cinnamon raisin (H&H, BH didn't have that kind), the onion (side by side) & the pumpernickel (side by side). TBH, took several bites of each (blind), chose the betters, ID'd which was whose and gave up on the BH for lack of flavor (sorry! I HATE giving negative feedback). We'll definitely return to give them another shot though. PS We were SO impressed with this note at the door!!! These are good people (I've read up on them on FB & website. Regarding bagels I'm spoiled....born and raised in New York ......your bagel might be tasty to many but for me it's much too soft and does not deliver the taste of a NY style bagel sandwich served with Lox & cream cheese, adding my favorite of a thin slice of red onion and tomato. The NY style bagel is boiled & oven baked, producing a crispy crust and chewy but very firm inside......then you're biting into a crisp firm bagel that explodes with many flavors and textures, that repeats with each slow bite. Bagels are more like round bread than bagels. The cream cheese this year is WHIPPED and thin, and melts completely away on a toasted bagel. If you can't sell real, thick cream cheese why bother? Go to Jo Mama's in Orleans, where you will get a real bagel and real cream cheese. read more
