We've passed this restaurant many times on a busy River Road in Fair Lawn and decided to stop in. Upon entering this warm and cozy interior without a reservation as first-timers, my partner and I managed to locate a table outside on this summer-like day. Juany's Cafe is a cozy, family-run establishment making a great impression as a place for brunch on locals and visitors. The owner is Peruvian, and the Mexican cook began in the kitchens of his homeland, known for its authentic Latin-inspired cuisine. We decided on the Latin bowl with marinated steak accompanied by black beans, sautéed veggies, avocado, and sweet plantains & Grilled Chicken Burritos with Sweet Potato Fries. Complimentary fruit salad started our meal. All ingredients were fresh, and the seasonings were unique with their bold flavors. There was a wait time for food as everything was homemade, made to order, and well presented. The prices were more than reasonable considering the quality of the food. Our server was friendly and accommodating. The service was a bit slow due to a large party group. Brunch is the norm here, but we can't wait to try it out for dinner.

I have ordered from this place numerous times because it's local and the food and prices are decent. However I always have an issue with every order. Today we placed an order and this was the delivery ticket that came with my order. It doesn't contain the delivery instructions my wife wrote for this order where She specified to leave our order on our porch. The driver obviously can't see my delivery instructions so the driver called my wife several times to say she was outside waiting for us to get the order. This is extremely an inconvenience. How can any driver understand this ticket? Also the back of the delivery ticket Contained info from another client. They compromised another clients home & tel info without a care in the world. Are they that busy & thrifty that they have to recycle paper? They also use black marker on the tin foil to write specs of orders which the ink can seep into the food. My wife called them directly to say the order was incomplete and the young lady didn't apologize for the inconvenience. She said we could either call Uber or wait a long time to have the sandwich delivered to us. She stated they were very busy and she couldn't give us an estimated delivery time but that it would be delivered. We waited about 25-30 mins and called to ask for a delivery status, the same young lady said that the order wasn't a priority because they were too busy. I said they should have made it a priority bc they messed up. I asked to speak to the owner or a manager and I heard her speaking to someone saying that I was asking for the owner and mentioned someone named Frank. The other person said "is that the order from Uber and the lady driver?" She said yes. The other person said "we are busy so tell him to complain to Uber!" She then hung up on me. I called back and asked why she hung up and her reply was oh I thought you had hung up. I then said ok thank you and hung up. What a horrific experience. Business owners need to be present at their establishments or hire people who care about the businesses' reputation! read more

I've been home in NJ from PA for a year now. A great cup of coffee and some friendly faces at 5:45 in the morning isn't a bad way to start your day. The bagels are very good and have always been very fresh in my experience (I'm there early enough in the morning to see them being made on site) and the breakfast sandwiches are great. I noticed someone mention the staff is "friendlier" to some as opposed to others and perhaps it may appear this way but what they are doing in reality is keeping the traffic moving ... and moving fast. These guys know how to serve ... maybe try making friends with them yourself? They know I come in every morning at 5:45 for my coffee...they see my car pull up and are already making it by the time I open the door. And for the guy who complained about delivery??? Who has bagels delivered from Hawthorne to Paramus? LOL puh-lease. read more

Bagel Express is by far the best bagel shop in the nj area that you will ever go to. they have baked good, chips, drink, bagels, sandwiches, soups, wraps, burgers, and all sorts of breakfast treats. i think it's just great that owner frank scola opens at 4:00am to 4:00pm. that's a long day but no matter what time it is the staff is nothing but smiles and ready to help. they always know your name and order. it really is a family. i also think it's great how much this business contributes to the youth of hawthorne. they donate to sports and schools which shows sense of community. anything you get here will exceed expectations as well as the service. so please disregard any bad reviews of "too hot of coffee" or "bad bagels" because take it from someone who has lived in jersey their whole life. I came to Bagel Express craving something very specific. I wanted something that wasn't on theme menu and it was a pretty intricate sandwich to say the least. The owner wrote down my order and made me the biggest, best tasting sandwich I have ever had. The turkey tasted fresh and the bacon was crisp and delicious. The bread was also amazing, which is one of the most important aspects of a sandwich. I also got a coffee with cream and sugar which was absolutely delicious. Could go as far as saying one of the best cups of coffee i've ever had. Staff was friendly and open to conversation, will definitely be coming back. read more

I LOVE bagel express!!!! They have the BEST coffee in the world (I know, because I've spent the last 3 years traveling the world for work). Frank is a sweetheart and always has a smile on his face. I cannot go on enough about their coffee!!!! Oh - and the food is great, too. It's the kind of place where the owner and staff take the time out to get to know you and your usual order. The food is always fresh and delicious, and their bagels are like no other I have ever experienced anywhere else.
