My family gets very excited when I come home with my haul! This place almost always has a line, but don't let that deter you. The staff is fabulous and moves people along rather quickly. The cookies n napoleons are awesome but the fruit tart was not great because the shortbread was very thick. I had the breakfast sandwich and I added tomatoes n spinach and it was delicious. My husband had the chorizo omelette and that was a little disappointing. The place is cafeteria style. It only has 1 bathroom and could use some repairs as the floor was being held together with duck tape in many places. Definitely stick to their bagels and some of their baked items here. So, solid breakfast in a town without a lot of solid breakie spots. All of the staff is friendly so they score on service as well. Ambiance? Not so much. This place is LOUD! We are from the NY/NJ/PA area and think we know what a good bagel is. We were pleased with what we got. I ordered a salt bagel and I am a self proclaimed salt bagel officianado. Most bagelries will have too much salt on the bagel. In my opinion, there only needs to be a light sprinkling of salt that is baked in. Bagel Central delivered! I was super happy with the sandwich which included a light spread of veggie cream cheese. My husband's breakfast burrito was good but would have been better if he had eaten it right away. Ordered from the specials menu posted on the chalkboard behind the counter ~ Lox Bagelwich, the written description of which included cream cheese, eggs and lox on a bagel. Sounded great. Cashier asked if I would like to add anything to it. Already sounded like a pretty full and delicious sandwich so I asked what other people tend to add to it, largely asking out of curiosity. She said cream cheese. I told her that cream cheese was part of the description and comes with it. She said that cream cheese is actually an up charge. Somebody else came over to the cash register and iterated and reiterated that cream cheese was an up charge. I pointed to the chalkboard where it plainly states in part of the description of the bagel sandwich that it comes with cream cheese. There was a lot of back-and-forth chatter between them behind the cash register, and since I was not the one paying, I never got to see the receipt as to whether or not they did charge for the cream cheese. Nevertheless, pretty unsavory of them, to say the least, to try to charge for an item that was already listed as an ingredient in the sandwich. The inconsistency is allowable as a mistake, however, admit it, own it and it needs to be corrected. Either they erase cream cheese as one of the ingredients listed as an integral part of the sandwich, or stop trying to charge customers for the cream cheese; but, you can't have it both ways and still be ethical. That's like listing pepperoni pizza as a special and then describing the ingredients in the pizza, including pepperoni and then having the cashier ask if you wanted to add anything to it like pepperoni, which would be an up charge if they continued with today's line of thinking ~ does not make sense. Sandwich itself was delicious, and I did get it with cream cheese, whether or not they charged the friend who kindly picked up the tab, I'll never know. read more

Overall my dining experience here has been good. I've had the egg breakfast and bagel with lox. The bagels are not NY style but they're decent. They offer several different cream cheese options too. The main criticism I have is that they only serve brewed coffee which is so watered down unless you get the dark roast (slightly less watery but still not great), they do not serve espresso coffee drinks. They really should do better with the coffee. The place is big and although the line can be long at times, it moves quickly and seating spaces are usually available. read more

There were so many options but the staff were kind in helping us choose an option for a full Maine experience! Bagel Central is definitely a staple to downtown Bangor. It's a fun atmosphere for meeting with friends & taking pics for the 'gram. Man, this place was iconic among my peer group in high school and from what I see when I go there now, it's stayed true to that! My personal favorite is the lox & onion bagelwich. You've got the honkin' omelette with onions and yummy smoked salmon that absolutely overflows from the bagel "buns." You can sip on your cheap & delicious coffee from those fun plastic cups and people watch, gossip with your friends about whoever is also in the building, or do your homework like a good little student. Honestly, BC is a rite of passage for anyone who grows up in the greater Bangor area. I love to see a family-run business thrive, especially one that is careful to observe their religious practices. The family is Jewish and are closed on the Sabbath day. At least they used to be, I hope that hasn't changed! What else can you say, it's a fun environment with really affordable and delicious food. If you're into smoked salmon, you HAVE to try either the lox bagelwich or the lox cream cheese on a bagel.
