I had your chicken ceasar penne salad today . I rarely eat out but I figured Id give this salad a try. It was mostly lettuce with a swear 6 pennes on it. The dressing they give with it was not enough to go around. It wasnt a big salad but stuffed so tightly in the container I couldnt shake it to coat with the dressing.The chicken was cold too It cost about 14 bucks . First off, there is easy parking for Frank's. That makes everything nicer. That they have been a fixture since 1945 is also nice, but the real test is the product. Being greeted by enthusiastic counter people was lovely. It was easy to figure out who was an employee by their hats and shirts-a very nice touch and nod to the past. Two thumbs up to everything we sampled, from gluten free cheesecake and yummy cookies to pizza. We are looking forward to sampling a sandwich or an entree during our next visit. Hopefully they'll be around for a lot longer--and by their track record, it seems like a good bet. read more

Stopped here on a trip yo Acadia Just to get some of those classic Maine Whoopie Pies. The Whoopie Pies were really soft and fresh! Cake was soft and fluffy, filling was light and creamy, not too sweet; Just the right amount. Overall great! I could have gone for multiple. Light to eat too! Strawberry Tart was fresh as well. Nice sweet-tart jam and good balance with the shell. Lemon Blueberry Crumb Bars had a good bold flavor too. Both The lemon and the blueberry came out well. Bars game cold and if have preferred it room temperature, but maybe that was how it was supposed to be? Either way, it was good. read more

I can't recommend Frank's Bake Shop enough, especially if you have a gluten allergy. Their homemade gluten-free bread is truly outstanding--it's flavorful, soft, and holds together beautifully (no crumbling like most GF bread!). I needed a burn away cake which I provided the toppers to celebrate a mortgage burning party. Where other local bakeries give high estimates and long wait times, or turned down after days of waiting; Franks Bakery Shop knocked it out of the park in less than two days! This place is more than a bake shop. It seems to offer just about everything you would want, from cakes, pies, donuts, and baked goods to sandwiches, pizza and ice cream. You name it they have it!! The food at Frank's is good quality. We ordered a club sandwich to go that was tasty but quite small for the price. We also picked up a dozen donuts to bring to our friend's house. The donuts were delicious. The reason for the four * rating is the ordering process. Granted all of the employees are super friendly and nice, but it is a bit confusing when you walk in. There is no designated line to place your order. Despite that critique, we would definitely recommend coming here for a smorgasbord of food. read more

Well, it's twice now we've been disappointed with several years between those visits to the bakery. This was a favorite place for my wife growing up in Bangor, that's why we came. Recently we bought an 8" quiche, molasses and fig filled cookies. The total came to $40.84. The tastes, quantity and quantity did not reflect the prices for each item. The quiche was just okay at $14.99 and the fig filled cookies had a smear of fig, hardly enough to be called "filled." It goes against my grain to knock a small family business like this but I want them to know price and quality still matters. Who's minding the store? read more

We have been here a couple times. This time we ordered five breakfast sandwiches, which were amazing of course. They really are known for their bakery stuff. We also wanted to grab lunch here for later on so we took a few sandwiches to go in my opinion, the breakfast sandwiches were the best. The lunch sandwiches were not really good at all, really mediocre, and honestly was really disappointed in that. There is not much flavor no sauce, And nothing special at all. It is just a few pieces of meat on bread today. But if I were to go again, I would probably only get the bakery items or the breakfast sandwiches. read more

Omg! This place went above my expectations. I remember coming here when i lived in bangor over a decade ago for snacks and lunch but never bought a cake. I threw a friend a surprise party. But i was planning it from Miami, so it was hard. I called and the woman i spoke with (idk her name) was so pleasant, sweet and helpful. I asked for a very odd decoration. Googly eyes (inside joke with my friend) i thought they'd just slap a couple on. I didn't see the cake until the party. It exceeded my expectations. The cake was phenomenal. It was delicious. The decorations were amazing. My friend cried when she saw it. And the price was so reasonable with 2 days notice. I will recommend this place to everyone i know in the area. Like what everyone is saying if you're wanting for some treats and sweets this is the place to be, they have lots to choose from, from cakes and pies, donuts and cookies,eclairs too. I went there to pick up the blueberry pie that I ordered over the phone,it was freshly baked same day and I also bought 4 different kinds of cheese cupcakes. Those were so delicious except for my peanut butter cheese cupcakes which is too sweet for me. I also asked if they have something to offer that's sugar free,the lady out front offered me one kind of cookie that's sugar free The place is nice and clean and they also have ample space of parking outback. Staffs were friendly. Just want to add this on my review. Temporarily in the area and walk by this place on the way to work all the time. Too convenient for breakfast, a snack, or dinner. For this review, I got the breakfast wrap with scrambled eggs, tomatoes, onions, spinach with bacon and cheddar. Also an eclair for breakfast too. Wrap was great! Super filling. Eclair was luscious with lots of custard filling. I've also gotten their scones and muffins, they have a great pumpkin muffin and a chocolate banana muffin. They also have daily specials and lots of desserts like mint slice, peanut butter slice, and all sorts of cheesecakes and cakes. So, when I was young, I'd occasionally go to parties at my aunt's house in Orono. She always had trays of mini sweets from Frank's Bakery there. Being about 9 years old and minimally supervised at these parties, I would secretly sneak around to each dish of the sweets and take these little frosted blondies. I'm pretty sure I ate everyone of them at every party. Flash forward *ahem* years to this summer when I was passing through Bangor during Frank's business hours with my mom. I requested we stop and pick up some of these squares. While I didn't know there name, I knew I'd know them by sight. Unfortunately, they were not in the display case, so I inquired but could only vaguely describe them and how I remembered them tasting. But here's the thing, the staff there went above and beyond in helping me try to figure out what they were! They offered suggestions and even offered to whip up frosting for me, as I thought maybe it was coffee flavored? A customer overheard me and said, I bet they are on the party trays. Lo and behold, they were right!! It's a maple blondie bar and they are usually on sold as part of the party tray, but they could sell them by the dozen, but only had some frozen at the time - if that was alright. Of course it was! So, long story short - the sweets here are so good that they live up to the memory of a nine year old girl some *ahem* years later. We picked up a couple other items too and they were all just as good! And the service was just as top quality! Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. read more

So glad I found this place. Once you enter this place there's no mistake that it is a great bakery. Besides the array of pasteries, donuts, and cookies there are sandwiches , pies , breakfast foods ( served all day) fresh rolls, pizza, and all its galore offerings on the menu. I did include a menu and a holiday catering menu for your viewing. Came in here got 1/2 dozen donut. Its donut is fresh and airy. You like Boston cremr donuts? They offer a delicious one here. The donut is fresh, airy, thick chocolate ganache and tons of fresh Bavarian cream filling. Delicious , and I usually don't like Boston creme donuts. My favorite is just a plain honey glazed donut. And it is equally good and fresh. Got a small coffee to go and it is fresh and a great tasing cup. Got a chocolate eclair and have not sink my teeth in eat but cannot wait .
