Want a NY bagel in Doylestown? Then this is the place to go. The staff was incredibly friendly when our large group of classmates (~12) all arrived at the same time for bagels before an event. The friendly staff and owner accommodated us and the food was made fresh very quickly. You order at the counter and then pay when the staff calls your name. For a normal day, there are plenty of tables to sit at. You can also get a bag of bagels to go if you prefer or order a tray of sliced bagels with cream cheese for a group breakfast. Astoundingly good bagel breakfast sandwiches! Bagels are made on site, and employees are very friendly. If the occasional mistake is made (they once missed a sandwich I ordered while I waited), they go out of their way to remedy the situation and turn a potential negative into a positive. Weekend mornings the line is out the door, so come early. Even on weekday mornings the flow of customers is steady. Much better than some of the bagel chains in the area. Wandered by starving and realized I forgot my wallet. I asked them if they took ApplePay, and to my delight, they do! So I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel, and had a little chit chat with the employees about saving me from having to eat at Starbucks. In addition to the extremely rude customer service, the bacon egg and cheese on a bagel tasted like nothing but salt. The bacon was clearly microwaved - and couldn't have been for more than 10 seconds before it was thrown onto the microwaved eggs. The bagel itself also tasted like salt - I learned that after I took everything off the bagel in hopes of salvaging my breakfast sandwich that I overpaid for. I love this place! Everytime you walk in the staff always greets you right away & they are so happy to see you! Even get a joke from one! Employees tend to be a little short with you and the way they wrap the bagels often gets a good bit of the cheese and egg to fall out as you unwrap it. Bagels are decent and this is a good option if you are in town and want somewhere you can walk to. Decent seating options and dogs are welcome outside. Overall not bad not great read more

Everyone always raves about bagel barrel , and it just didn't hit the mark for me. It was good but not amazing. I went here when native cafe was closed and their sandwich was not as good. I got bacon egg and cheddar - which they gave me American, not cheddar and the bagel was a little chewy. I usually get bagels from village bagel which in my opinion makes the best bagels in bucks county. Native café has a superior bagel sandwich though. Again, not bad but I don't know if I'll be back. The inside is a little dingy too, didn't seem the cleanest and most of the staff was pleasant but there was one man who was very demeaning to some of the workers which I did not appreciate. It's very poor form to belittle employees in front of house. I think this is just one of those places doylestownians rave about because it's been there so long and it's convenient and like home to them but to anyone else it does not live up to the hype. read more

Bagel Barrel on West State Street, Doylestown, PA, has been around for a while, and aside from the Manhattan Bagel shop a few blocks away, is the only game in town for boil and bake rounders. The joint is cozy with small dining area, self serve coffee and very reasonable prices. It's a nice place to hang out with friends and family (if you can find a table). Downside is that their bagel style is not my fave. They are on the small side and more densely textured than I prefer. To my buds, they taste like sour dough loaf with thin shell and lots of sprinkles (onion being my primary choice). The quality is there, but I jump for a lighter, air-pocketed inside, crisper shell and less sour flavor. It comes down to the base flour used and the amount of kneading before forming the ring of dough that becomes the bagel. Like pie crust, less is more when it comes to great texture. Everyone behind the counter was pleasant and having a good time when I was there. That's always a good sign for a positive atmosphere. If they made the kind of bagels I loved, I would stop in regularly. As it is, Bagel Train in Yardley will continue to be my station for awesome bagels in Bucks County. read more

We both loved our bagels. I'd rate them a "9" out of 10 (Best Bagels in NYC gets my "10" out of "10") and would happily have one again. Service was fine! The bagels came pretty quickly and while I wouldn't describe the staff as wildly friendly, I wouldn't describe them as rude either. You know some people don't understand how to be flexible, in this case that applies directly to the bagel barrel. Now I've tried to support local businesses as much as I can in the last year and a half, but unfortunately our local businesses don't do a whole lot to support us. In particular bagel bagel barrel, you would think they had the only bagel in town. Now they're in their Covid policy is the call from the car now that's great I understand. However let's have more than one cell phone line guys, this morning I sat out front for 15 minutes trying to call their single phone number so I can order my wife and I a couple bagels and cream cheese. After 15 minutes of frustration and 20 calls I decided to walk up and ask for my two bagelsAnd cream cheese in person. Now mind you I have a mascon I am 6 feet socially distant I'm doing everything right here! I am rudely met with, " I'm sorry sir you can't order here get back in your car!" Bagels are awesome. Kid at the counter today? Not so much. Copped an attitude with us about the number of bagels we ordered (his error, by the way) saying we didn't order a dozen. Asked for our bagels cut; came home and had to cut them. Not a big deal, but considering all of the "smart" remarks from the time we walked in until the time we got our bagels, this was super annoying. Upon further inspection, I realized we were given an egg bagel instead of what we ordered. Not a big deal for most, but it's the simple negligence on top of this kid's attitude that really got me. Especially considering we don't eat eggs in our home, but that's neither here nor there because I'm going to ask for someone else to help me next time or just straight up not come back. Normally the food I get from here is decent enough (granted I usually get bagels with cream cheese), but today I was pretty disappointed with the quality. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel, but when I went to eat the sandwich I noticed the entire egg was gray all the way through. Additionally, the bacon was very soggy and chewy and the cheese was rock hard and plasticky. We called the store, and they said they microwave their eggs and that's why they looked gray but assured us the sandwich was fine to eat. Tip's included." I wonder if this man, who I now recognize to be the manager of the Bagel Barrel, knows who I am and is just avoiding small talk. It would make sense given the circumstances, as even a simple, "Oh hi, there! How are you?" could get awkward quickly. "The bagels look great." "Yeah, they're fresh. Made them this morning. Oh I almost forgot-" The manager then digs into his jacket pocket and hands me a butter-stained note. "So the guy who called to make the order, I think his name was Adam? He wanted me to give this to you." "Thanks." I should look down at this point, but I can't help but stare at the frayed lip on the edge of the manager's baseball cap. "Aren't you going to read it?" I am from out of town and I LOVE visiting Bagel Barrel when I come in town. They have the best bagels for a reasonable price. I stay in the Burrough, and Bagel Barrel is a short walk away. However, the workers have the worst attitudes. I have worked in customer service and been reliant of tips for years, so I completely understand how people can be. The passive aggressive attitude is not necessary to dish out to the ones that are being nice and friendly at 6am. Save that for the Karen's! Great bagel shop! Stopped in for breakfast and had a bagel sandwich (bacon, egg and cheese) and it was delicious. They take a bit to prepare the sandwiches, but it's worth the wait. The bagels are excellent quality and the other ingredients on my sandwich were fantastic. The reason I rated 4 and not 5 stars is that when the staff is busy with preparing - they are focused on that and nothing else. They actually kind of ignore the customers when they're busy. I never write reviews but after working in customer service for YEARS it's easy to spot the red flags. Staff wasn't nice. I am oh so sorry for asking you to do what you're paid to do. Plus I got a breakfast sandwich and the eggs tasted rubbery, wouldn't be surprised if they microwave them?!? I only know that taste because I microwaved eggs when I was like five years old and they had that similar gross rubbery taste. I'll make my sandwich at home next time knowing I'm getting my moneys worth and basic quality foods. I'm no chef but goodness I'm about to jump into their kitchen and show them how it's done! Asking simply for an egg bagel bacon egg and cheese will get you a double egg American cheese and maybe 1single soggy slice of bacon mixed in with the scramble of egg. What I was expecting was about 4 /5 slices of crispy cooked bacon atop of my egg and cheese bagel. I would come back here again and see if they'll cater to my request. Normally I would give BB 4 stars because for years they have been consistently the best around. Authentically made and perfect taste. Lately, the past few weeks, the bagels have changed. Not my first trip to Bagel Barrel: my family prefers the dense bagels that they make. I begrudgingly go back, though the service is a constant irritant. This trip, I ordered 2 everything bagels, 2 sesame bagels, and 2 plain bagels. All tasted very good and were priced at around $7. I also ordered two half pound tubs of cream cheese at $4.50 each, which is expensive, but convenient. The person who took my order was very friendly and helpful, which was a surprise, considering every other time I have been to this establishment, I have been "greeted" with an attitude that can only be described as tolerant to disdain. If you go to this establishment, here is a tip to avoid impatient attitude and eye-rolling looks. Before you get to the counter, know exactly what you want, and how much you want. Yes, it may be hard to immediately know what you want or to be spontaneous, but it will save you from being an unwelcome customer. read more
