a breakfast of eggs, toast, toast and coffee

Cute local place. Staff is very friendly and they do a lot of takeout business. Only 4 tables and 10 chairs total. I had an omelette and coffee for $11. Included hash brown and toast. Food was passable.

It's about time to bestow the fifth star to Newtown Bagel. It is awarded for consistency of effort, sincere and friendly service, long term partnership with the community and excellence in breakfast sandwiches. Their success is shown by the opening of a second shop, Yardley Bagel Co. in Lower Makefield, which produces the same quality baked rounders as Newtown, in a more expansive and comfortable space. Can a third be far behind? While I still have a small issue with the texture of the bagel skin which is softer (less crisp) than I prefer, I can't deny that the pliable nature when fresh from the oven creates a perfect platform for a hot steaming sandwich. My just eaten sausage, egg & cheese on untoasted onion bagel was wonderfully delicious from first bite through last. The chew blended ingredients well and gave full voice to the harmonics exploding in my mouth. Alas, my tastes have matured to appreciate the pleasure of the different texture. There is a place in life for more than one variety of bagel. Bagel Wisdom attained by hard experience and exhaustive bagel research cannot be denied.

"Scooped" bagel (saves 75 calories and still tastes just as good IMO)

Bagels here are "good enough", and I certainly don't know of anything better in Newtown. Their staff has improved a lot in the past few years. There used to be a cashier who was hopeless at taking orders (although very nice) and it would always be a big ordeal to order and the lines would invariably back up as she got everything wrong and people had to re-explain what they wanted. People there now are significantly more competent. I can order a "lox sandwich on a scooped toasted everything bagel with veggie cream cheese" and they GET IT (and then even ask me if I want the capers and onions!). I wish they had a better waiting area, as it always seems awkward to wait for your to-go bagels. If there are no available seats right by the waiting area (and those 2 seats are way too close together) you're either standing right by the door as people come in and out or taking up a 4-top seating area. But I understand the positioning of their space is a bit weird. You can get your bagels "scooped" which saves you 75 calories (I'll attach a picture) and for me, doesn't change anything about the best parts of the bagel. The bagels are OK. I think if they were a little crunchier on the outside they would be sublime. But Newtown Bagel doesn't have any real need to improve as there's no major competition in Newtown. The veggie cream cheese is also just OK. It's nothing like the Bagel Barrel in Doylestown, but it's good enough - just like Newtown Bagels overall.

Good sandwiches and friendly staff. They really need a 2nd register as the line backs up quickly. Or at least a take out only line.

I asked what I was in for and was immediately schooled on all of the offerings by the owner..... she described every item with great detail, pride and passion. I ended up buying some items for my wife's work and something for myself. The prices seemed high, but believe me you're getting what you pay for. I ended up with two Croissants - Buttery, flaky French-style croissant, one Pain au Chocolat - Our classic croissant filled with two bittersweet chocolate batons, one Nutella croissant - Our classic croissant filled with delicious Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread, one Fruit Jam croissant - our classic croissant filled with delicious fruit jam and a Almond Chocolate croissant - Our classic almond croissant filled with two bittersweet chocolate batons. For myself, I took another customers advice and went with a savory Ham and cheese croissant - our classic croissant filled with bechamel (creamy white sauce), ham and cheese. The shiny sheen of buttery baked goodness was the first thing you'll notice before you taste that flaky brown crust. Every bite was a clean crisp break and boy did all the flavors of ham and cheese combine to make a fantastic breakfast. My bill was $40 combined for all seven items. (I believe the ham and cheese croissant itself was about $6 and change) The croissants my wife brought to work were a hit. One of the her co-workers lived in France for several years and was complaining she couldn't find a comparable croissant on this side of the pond. She was beyond impressed and commented they are better than most she remembered. Mission accomplished, she'll be paying her first visit and I'll be returning to try some sweet options next time! Small location, but a mighty and beautiful product made with love at Mamie Colette!

MaGerks was overfilled with the meat, cheese and mushrooms. We took some off and made another sandwich with a roll we had at home. Next time we would ask for it to be light on the cheese. It also came with a small bag of potato chips and a firm pickle. We think this might be the best out of the three if less cheese. Clubhouse cheesesteak is a go to for us. It is consistently delicious. We had a choice of fries, chips or coleslaw and we went with the chips plus there a few pickle slices. Francesco's cheesesteak was good but it had a different chicken taste. It came a la carte and was noticeably smaller. The bread wasn't as good either. This was our least favorite. We definitely will be going back to MaGerks to try other dishes as well.

Their menu has a mix of cutlet sandwiches, cheesesteaks, burger, tacos, quesadillas and burritos. The man who took my order wasn't much for words, but the food more than made up for it! My wife had the Chicken Quesadilla $15 (comes with fries). I had the combination tacos $16 which had one hot sausage taco, one chipotle and one birria. All three tacos were stuffed and bursting with flavor. The double tortillas were awesome and made the overstuffed tacos easier to handle, but were also fresh and had a nice crunch to them. I enjoyed the birria most with the chipotle coming in a close second. The hot sausage taco was decent, but I needed more heat and flavor from it. The birria had a tasty combination of cheese, cilantro and onion to go along with the seasoned beef. The chipotle chicken partnered with pineapple, cilantro and onion hit the spot as well. The Chicken Quesadilla had a perfect portion of melted cheese and lightly seasoned chicken. It also held together extremely well. The fries were forgettable, but the main event was delicious. I'd seek these guys out again! Aristaeus has them on their website calendar once or twice a month and Newtown Brewing has dates on their Facebook events page. Thanks guys!
