I know that this business is under recent new ownership so I can only speak for my recent experience as it was my first time there. The shop is clean and bright and there was a young lady managing who ran that ship really well. The staff were very accommodating and the self serve coffee bar is a nice touch. The bagels are baked bagels so if you prefer the boiled style you'll want somewhere else but they are great baked bagels. The house mixed cream cheeses are the star for me. Huge mix in's that really add to the experience. The fresh lox were so delicious and the heart attack breakfast sandwich was packed with meat and cheese and so perfect! I'll definitely be back for those deli meats, and some white fish salad! read more

Since new owners took over I am not happy. The sandwiches are now wrapped in paper and very greasy. I've tried the bacon egg and cheese on bagel three weeks in a row with no change. Might have to go to Dunkin for my sandwich now. read more

Hi, this review is about 2 sides of their bagels. The Garlic bagel I bought was good and New York style, ate well after bringing it home and toasting/buttering it. Unfortunately, the Gluten Free bagel was far less then satisfactory. Comparison: The Garlic bagel, made in house, cost 1.60. The GF bagel was frozen, needed thawing in their microwave, was about 1/2 the size of the Garlic, and cost 3.20. It was sourced, I was told, from another bakery. Now, we understand that because they use a flour in house, they cannot also make a GF bagel without contaminating it. However, to offer a GF bagel, plain to boot, they are frozen and have to be thawed, and charge double what their good in house product costs, is not something that we will go for again. I believe it was from a company called The Naked Bagel, which has a bagel store in Milford, PA. Reading Yelp on the Naked Bagel, they may not make their GF option in house either. read more

Ever since they sold this place to new people my food has been greasy and they put 2 little pieces of pork roll on my sandwich. The first time I went in there when they sold it no one could barely speak English and my food took way too long to be made. I'm really sad because this place used to be really good and not mediocre. Different cheesesteak #1099 in the last five years. This was a great day to be me!! I was tired, hungry and far from home. That is usually a recipe for disaster. But not on this day. 2nd Street Bagels has a 4.6 rating on google maps. I saw Philly Steak, egg and Cheese on the menu. This would have been a very good cheesesteak. The meat was tender. The onions added a ton of flavor. The bagel was a perfect sandwich bagel. It collapsed nicely and held the steak, egg, cheese and onions together. I ordered a breakfast bagel sandwich, two drinks, and an order of chicken tenders. Instead of calling me to tell me the chicken tenders were out of stock and to maybe see if I wanted to replace it, they just marked it out of stock on the app (AFTER I ordered it) and refunded me. No note in the order, I had to go review it on my app. Every other place I have ordered from has always called when something is out of stock. Love this place! Work for a company that has a location nearby...so I am able to stop by 2nd Street a few times a year! I'm not sure if it's the manager or owner, but whoever she is, it's clear she is committed to the business and runs it with pride and efficiency. Stopped in yesterday and grabbed a cinnamon crunch bagel with cinnamon raisin walnut cream cheese. Wasn't sure about the walnuts in the cream cheese. She offered to pick them out of the cream cheese. I didn't even ask. (It's the little things!) I said it really wasn't necessary...but guess what...there wasn't a walnut in sight! AND It was amazing. I went in for another this morning and again the same employee greeted me & asked how it was? I said amazing! I just came to order the same thing. Sure enough, got that cream cheese walnut free! While husband was at a nearby medical appointment, I cruised around for someplace to have a cup of coffee and landed here. As I grasped the empty cup to fill it at the self-serve pots, I spotted a huge, uncut, Jewish apple cake! "Is that made here?" I asked. Indeed, it was, and the owner/baker was right there at the counter. Couldn't resist! Ordered a piece to enjoy with coffee and was greeted with a huge slice. It was Jewish apple cake perfection. Moist all the way through, with plenty of apples seasoned with cinnamon. I managed to eat half and saved the other half for my "other half." The next day, husband had a follow up appointment, so we headed right back and enjoyed breakfast at one of the booths to the rear of the register and bagel bins. I ordered a fried egg on a (French toast) bagel and husband, an (egg) bagel with cream cheese. Everything was so good! Wonderful dense bagels! Freshly made egg! Upon departing, we supplied ourselves with additional bagels and apple cake to go. Only one suggestion. It would be so nice to have a non-dairy alternative to dairy milk such as unsweetened almond "milk" or oat "milk" for the coffee. Second Street Bagels is under new management and working hard to up the quality of the rounders exiting their backroom oven. From my first bite this late September morning it seems they are succeeding. I was fortunate enough to ask the owner where the bagels were made, and he was happy to take me on an impromptu tour of the operation. I followed him behind the counter and through the kitchen door. The large boiling pot was full of brine and the rack was full of aluminum trays with bagels just out of their bath and chilling before going into the oven for finishing. I knew that the boil helped set the crust's consistency, and that lye or sugar/molasses water were traditionally the elixir of choice, but didn't know that brine was an option. It certainly worked to produce a excellent bagel. Thin crust. Nice bite. Pleasant mildly salty malty dense texture within. With sweet butter and nutty Swiss slices, it was an enjoyable bagel. A few years ago, I believe this place changed owners and it shows. I would of hoped the new owners would of brought some new enthusiasm and updating to the 1980's interior,. But alas, my hopes were crushed. The old owner used to be there all the time, engaging with the customers, offering bags to freeze the bagels etc. i get the sense the new proprietors are just in it for the check and are never there. I went this morning (Sunday 9:30 am) to grab a dozen bagels and some cream cheese. When I got out of my car, I could hear "screaming" . Enough that it caused me to pause a second thinking something was wrong inside. Thankfully nothing was wrong. Just employees being the kids that they are in an empty restaurant. The bagel case was about 1/2 full. I asked for some Sun dried tomato bagels (my wife's favorite and the only reason why I was there) and they were out. How are you out at 9:30 on a Sunday - especially when the place was empty. I just left and went up the street to see the New Manhattan bagel, which had an appropriate amount of traffic for a Sunday morning. There was a bagel on the floor behind the cashier. They claim to make sandwiches but didn't have pickles and didn't put put mustard on mine despite asking what kind I would like. I ate in my truck because of how filthy it looked in there. I would complain about the dim lighting but it would probably only make my review worse if I could see the inside of the restaurant better. Employees are not inviting or pleasant at all. Slightly rude and dismissive but a tip is expected when I paid for just take out service. Would not go back after having been there a few times. Ehh... These aren't even bagels. Clearly they neither boil nor steam the dough, and so there is basically no crust. It has one solid texture throughout, and that texture is gummy. You know what the inside of a bagel feels like? That's the whole thing, there's no darkened chewy and crispy crust that a real bagel is supposed to have. This is just bread in the shape of a bagel! The flavor in and of itself is fine, but nothing amazing. I give them props for some interesting flavors (such as cranberry orange and snickerdoodle), but it's wasted on such a lackluster product. I realize anything outside of the NYC metro region is going to be bagel purgatory; still, there is absolutely no reason for the gross texture of these bagels when competitors in this region have proven it's not impossible to make an A-OK bagel. Avoid - the bagels at even Dunkin Donuts are far superior. read more

They do offer a wide variety of bagels as well as sandwiches. My bagel was pretty good. It was fresh and soft but lacked a bite. It didn't have that nice crust but it was still good. The bagels here also seemed a bit smaller than I've had at other places. The gentleman working the counter was very pleasant and easy to deal with. Went today for the first time and will def be back! I got the lox&crm cheese on a multigrain bagel with LTO. So good! The lox was so fresh, the bagel was toasted and pressed and there was the perfect amount of cream cheese. My boyfriend got the philly steak&egg on a jalapeño bagel and it was SO GOODDDDDD! I've been coming to this local spot for several years now and felt that a review was long overdue. The bagels and bagel sandwiches at 2nd Street Bagels are simply extraordinary. They are made from scratch and come in every variety imaginable, from Pumpernickel to Jalapeno Cheddar. My personal favorite is a sausage, egg & cheese sandwich on an Everything bagel. I can honestly say it is my favorite breakfast sandwich I have ever had. The egg is cooked from scratch perfectly every time. The sausage is delicious and it is smothered in oozing cheese. The bagel sets it off though. They have a large menu with some lunch options and baked goods I have yet to try. The interior is no frills. The focus is solely on the food.
