Cute spot to catch up with friends. The portions are small (especially for the price) so it really is mainly a place if you're looking for somewhere Instagramable to chat with a friend and just nibble on something. The place wasn't too busy so staff was attentive. read more

My wife and I came in for a date night! We love the decor and the food was rich and flavorful. I needed a pick me up so I grabbed a cappuccino. My wife ordered borscht and truffle fries and I got the beef stroganoff. The portions were not big but it was quality we were looking for. Presentation and flavors were perfect. The desserts are also nice and light. We got the mango mousse and snickers type bar. Both delicious and we would come back again. read more

vanilla cafe is a beautiful and unique spot in northeast philly for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. it's casual but upscale enough that it can be a really nice date or fun/nice brunch with friends. the food here is delicious, the wait staff is very courteous, and the pastries are some of the best i've ever had not to mention the most beautiful. a highlight of tonight's dinner was the mango passionfruit tea, which was amazing. my only complaint is that it is a bit pricey here, but for the quality, it is to be expected. read more

We decided to try somewhere new (for two out of three of us) and were happy we did. A cute place with very nice and friendly staff. I decided on the steak sandwich and can see why they give you gloves - very juicy and hot. It was tasty and a unique twist on a steak sandwich in the steak sandwich capital of the world :0) My sister enjoyed her beef stroganoff, as well. My niece liked her turkey panini, but we all agreed it was more of a sandwich than a panini - it wasn't pressed nor heated. My sister also enjoyed her mushroom soup. Although, it would be nice if a smaller version would be offered. The truffle fries were tasty but could include a larger portion for the price, but tasty nonetheless. We shared a pot of strawberry whipped cream tea - very tasty and loved the presentation. My niece had a latte that she enjoyed, as well. I look forward to going back in the future to try their brunch menu. In the area, Check Them Out! read more

Our second time back in a short amount of time because we were in the area and another restaurant and decided to come here for coffee and dessert and glad we did. Came here for breakfast with a friend and it was fantastic! We came right around when they opened and it was the perfect time. We started seeing more people fill in around 10-10:30. Our waitress was so attentive and sweet. The decor is very charming. The food came relatively fast. We got the vanilla breakfast and Benedict to share and both enjoyed the meals. It was light but filling. The smoked salmon was so good. I also got a matcha drink that was yummy. The desserts and the pastries was delicious!! We both got a mango pastry that was beautifully made! Hands down would come back! read more

The food was very delicious I could definitely go there again someday I love the way the food look.

We absolutely loved our lunch today! What a pretty little place with every table filled throughout our stay. The owner introduced herself to us, and we had a nice chat. She also owns Ginger, a nearby restaurant, which we will definitely try. We chose to drink water served in a lovely bottle with fresh mint and poured into footed glasses. We decided on the avocado salad and a veggie omelet to share. It was the perfect combination! Fresh arugula with smoked salmon, tomatoes, and avocado plated with the avocado shell as if the salad was tumbling from the shell. It was so fresh and delicious! The veggie omelet was absolutely delicious, but I can't describe why and how this was different than most omelets. It just was! Desserts are fabulous, and the owner helped us choose. I had a Mikado cake and my friend had a vanilla mouse filled with mango. Delicious! She took home an entire box of desserts for her family. Vanilla isn't cheap, but the love and care that goes into every dish were apparent & I'm fine with the price when things are made so well. The staff and customers are predominately Ukranian or Russian speakers as was the clientele, but everyone spoke English very well...no problem. Hats off to Vanilla and to Anna, one of the pastry chefs. Job well done! read more

I love this place! It's cute and ideal for brunch or a light lunch. Their borscht tastes so close to how my mom makes it. The teas are amazing, especially the buckthorn which has become my favorite. I don't usually go for waffles, but I decided to try the Shaffel waffle one day when I was craving something sweet, and it did not disappoint. The only time I was ever a little disappointed was when I ordered the shakshuka. It was delicious, but I felt like it needed much more bread on the side since a dish like that is meant for plenty of dipping. Still, I like the atmosphere and every other visit has been excellent so for me, so I'm giving it 5 stars! read more

I already highly recommend breakfast/brunch at Vanilla Cafe but my oh my was I surprised at dinner yesterday. My husband and I started by sharing an avocado salad that was absolutely divine. An absolute must try. I ordered the Shrimp Orzo and my husband had the Beef Stroganoff - and both were so well made. It tasted very fresh and just yummy. Finally I ordered a fruit tart and my husband a cheesecake for dessert. The cheesecake was a little bit better in my opinion. The fruit tart was good but the crust was too thick which made it hard to break and eat, other than that it was still good but I probably wouldn't order it again. Everything else I highly recommend. The service as typical was very good and helpful. The ambiance at Vanilla Cafe is impeccable. They really do take details into account and it makes all the difference. Such a gem of a place. read more

I heard about this place and wanted to give it a try. I walked in with my husband and went straight to the front desk with 3 waiters acting busy and pretending they did not see us . Food: The tea was presented in a beautiful glass tea pot on a matching tray with tea candle to keep it warm. The veggie omelette with mushroom sauce was fresh and delicious. A bit overpriced. Service: it's a very small cafe. There's one server who was very pleasant and happy. Ambience: If you're Eastern European or Russian you probably won't get the strange looks I received from patrons soon as I walked in. The decor is going for affluent garden cafe. The seats are comfy, the flatware was gold colored and heavy. A YouTube playlist of Enrique Iglesias and current rnb videos streamed on a large tv. read more

We just happened to be looking for a place for breakfast and came across Vanilla Cafe. What a diamond in the rough! The service was great, the choices were great and the food was fantastic! It was more tuan we could eat so we even enjoyed our leftovers. We chose Avacado Toast that was served in a way I have never had, with the freshest smoked salmon and pistachio crumbles and a balsamic glaze. Delicious. We opted for some hot tea and it came served in a glass teapot on a candle burner, so it was enough to share. The choices for the tea were awesome also. We will definitely be returning! read more

Really interesting interior decor that gives you a throwback feeling. The service is quick and the servers are very nice. Vanilla Breakfast: 2/5 Aesthetically beautiful! This as a sort of full breakfast at the price tag is disappointing. Independently parts of the dishes are good within its own right but together it lacks cohesion. Eggs: cook is alright, needs seasoning. Micro green salad: fresh salad with a nice vinaigrette. Toast: nothing special just toast with tiny bit of cream cheese and chives. Fried cheese: really adds nothing to this dish as whole Mushrooms and Spinach: actually really good! Great flavors. Prob the best part. Conclusion: Not worth it! 100% will still be hungry after. Seafood pasta: 4/5 Pretty decent seafood pasta. The pasta was slightly undercooked from Al dents but acceptable. Great flavors; with pieces of shrimp, salmon, and squid. The seafood were all a bit overcooked. Duet: 3/5 I for one love sweets but even this is a bit too sweet for me. Enough to where you teeth can hurt from it. Lovely notes of chocolate but the sweetness needs to be toned down. It would be nice if there was more sponge. Conclusion: Aesthetically everything looks amazing but good can be a little questionable. Maybe you'll have better luck with the other dishes. Personal opinion anything but the vanilla breakfast. read more

Had breakfast at Vanilla after seeing it on Instagram. Definitely a cute little spot ambiance-wise. I had an iced latte (5/5) the Benedict (4/5) and a fruit tarte (5/5). The presentation is beautiful! The only downfall was it was pretty expensive for what we got, especially in comparison to other places serving similar. It is a beautiful experience with how everything is served, but next time I would just get a coffee and a pastry to go! read more

Found this cafe on TikTok so I decided to give it a try. It's truly a hidden gem, in the middle of a strip mall in NE Philadelphia. I've driven past numerous times and never noticed it. I'm happy I found it on social media. The restaurant is decorated beautifully. The chairs are big and comfy and some of the nicest chairs I've sat in at a cafe. Most cafes have little tiny wooden uncomfortable chairs, but as soon as I sat down, I knew I was going to love this place. Our waitress brought us our silverware which was in a cloth holder and I just thought that was super fancy. I've never seen anything like that at a small cafe before. I was very impressed. I ordered the vanilla breakfast, I thought it was very good but I didn't understand how the cheese fit into the presentation. Also, I would have loved ketchup for my eggs but the waitresses never returned after the food was delivered to see how we were and if we needed anything. I also ordered the mango crepes just to try something sweet. They were delicious, but too sweet for my liking. There was a lot of syrup on them. I also had the salted caramel Raf coffee and it was delicious! I felt as though all the ingredients were fresh and well made - it wasn't a heavy, unhealthy meal. It was a great way to start my day. I would go back, maybe in the afternoon for a coffee and pastry- which they all looked delicious in the case. I'm sure they're as good as they look from the other reviews I've seen. I would like to touch on the vibe of the workers... they didn't seem very welcoming or very customer service driven. I wish they had been because it did effect my review. read more

Such a cute little cafe! A hidden gem! I really wish I could've gave this place a 5 start but the service wasn't the best. My friend and I went for brunch on a Saturday and we had to sit outside due no seats being available inside. When a seat opened up inside I asked one the waitress if we can move inside, she asked if I can give her a moment and 10 minutes later I noticed they gave the seats to a customer who had just walked in. We waited for our food for an hour! The food was a 6/10. One thing I can say is the deserts and pastries are incredible 10/10. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to choose a random brunch place to eat that was far from Center City, and I was surprised by the quality of the restaurant atmosphere and food. The restaurant was definitely Instagram worthy if you're into taking pictures of the walls and food. We were impressed by our burger and shakshouka dishes. Slightly light on our stomachs but it satisfied our hunger. I was in love with the aesthetic of our rose tea and dessert when it came out. My only constructive feedback is to have a beverage menu accessible to customers. When I asked our server what beverages they offered, she told us that the selections were in the front, but the front was blocked by incoming customers so I only ordered what was visible to me. My macaron was slightly hard and taste refrigerated. However, the quality of the main dishes and aesthetic of the restaurant has deemed five stars in my eyes. We will definitely visit again! read more

Vanilla Cafe on Bustleton Avenue in the far northeast of Philadelphia, is owned/operated by two Kyrgyzstan women, who desire to bring the former Soviet block state's cuisine to the wilder world. Independent since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, the nation has undergone political upheaval since then, and is now governed by Sadyr Japarov, who promises an end to corruption after coming to power in a landslide electoral victory following a popular revolt ousted the prior leader. So, the time is right for the Kyrgyz people to show their national pride and give us a peek at their unique cuisine. I was there for breakfast and chose the "Classic Breakfast," for my morning meal. Of course, I didn't know what classic meant in a Kyrgyz kitchen, but soon learned that it was an effort to appeal to the large East European population in this part of Philly, and not really a national dish. Regardless, it was very good. Plain omelet, two grilled sausages, toast and small middle plate of greens and grape tomatoes in balsamic vinaigrette, with an Expresso Americano to brace me and work as a wash down. All tasty and very filling. While waiting I checked out the display case full of beautiful colorful pastries made in house. Most were mousse, shaped into large rings and smaller hearts and cones. There were also lemon cookies and multi layered cakes, called, "Gentlemen," which reminded of French Patisserie desserts. My eyes were ready to consume a sampling, but my stomach knew better than to try to absorb that much sugar so early in the day. Before leaving I met the owners, and had a nice conversation with them about their history and expectations for their new business. They asked me to return for dinner and try their more ethnic supper dishes, which they hoped would be as popular as their bakery wares. No doubt they will be as successful as the other Central Asian menus already located in this neighborhood. They would also like to branch out into Bucks County, and I invited them to visit Newtown, where they would be the first to offer the exotic foods of Osh and Bishkek to our adventurous palates. I volunteered to give them a tour. read more

Food looked so delicious and high quality. I ate shakshuka and chicken pasta after I went to my appointment. While driving to my appointment, I had very bad crampy abdominal pain and nausea 4-5x and then a lot of diarrhea. That's the only food I ate all day from the restaurant and I regretted eating. I don't know how the food was prepared, was expired or rotten food was used, or what. I don't know if I will be returning after having food poisoning. read more

Gave 2 stars because of the decor and service. But make no mistake, DO NOT order the mini pancakes!! I also ordered scrambled eggs(which we partially cold) and beef sausage, that were cold too! Not sure sure about the rest of the menu, but I definitely won't be coming back there. Lastly, when asked how was the meal I said not good, the server was like "ok" and walked away. Not sure what meals were ordered to garner such good to great reviews from others, but I certainly didn't order it or them and given my experience, don't think I ever will. read more
