In 2024, I purchased a "lifetime oil contract from them for $995. One year later, I traded in that car for new CX-50. Tanner had me sign a cancellation form to get the prorated refund from my trade-in. I was told I'd receive the refund within 90 days. Needless to say, the $709 never arrived, and it's been 6 months! To make matters worse, he convinced me to buy a new oil change contract on the new car for another $995. I was misled and lied to by Tanner and a manager named Brett P. I've been emailing and leaving messages for Tanner, yet he never gave me the courtesy of a response. After my recent purchase, the dealership wanted me to review Tanner. I mistakenly gave him a positive review, which I now regret. I will either revise that to reflect my recent experiences or complete a new one naming the staff involved. This brings me to yesterday, when I drove the 40 minutes to address this with Tanner. He said he never got the VM's or emails I left, but would investigate and send me a Docusign to process this refund. I asked if I could just sign the form again while I was there, but he had another excuse for why that wasn't possible. I waited 24 hrs and the DocuSign never came. I've had enough of their lies. Since Tanner didn't follow through once again, I called to speak with a manager. Brett P. told me he'd do some research and call me back. Brett called and informed me that the cancellation paperwork was never processed, with no explanation as to the reason why or who is responsible. Brett told me I just needed to call their third-party vendor, DWS, and they'd mail my refund directly to my home. That didn't happen either. Before I hung up, I asked Brett if I could call him back should I have any more issues, to which he agreed. I tried calling Brett back x 2 and left him a voicemail explaining what DWS is requesting. I've yet to hear back from him or anyone from Crater Lake. DWS is adding additional roadblocks, requiring a hard copy of my cancellation request and proof of loan payoff. I was never provided with this documentation, so I'll need to drive in again today to get these documents. I've been inconvenienced one too many times by their sales team and management. Here's my recommendation after buying 2 Mazdas from Crater Lake in the last two years: *** Drive the extra miles to buy from another Mazda dealership in Eugene or Brookings, if you don't want to end up with buyer's remorse! I had triple A tow my car to Star on 10/27/25. I gave them a call in advance and let them know I would be sending it there and stated what had happened. For full context, I was exiting the free way in central point there was a small box in the middle of the road and I had not choice but to slow down and go over it. My car being an Alfa Romeo Giulia sits low and something was pulled out of the bottom of my car and it immediately lost all power steering. I was able to pull to the side at the very end of the ramp. No body damage at all, car was still drivable but no power steering. The tow truck drivers were able to drive it into the flatbed themselves. Zach from Star automotive s initial quote 10/27/25 totaled $10,054.53. See pic and note Quote 1. (This quote will dramatically change once insurance adjuster is involved) 4 quotes later, 2 subcontracted dealerships, a broken fuel module that made my car completely underivable, and no answers from Zach or Austin about what happened. The insurance claims adjuster, the service manager in Portland and the technicians all agree in writing that my car was not drivable when it was brought in and that someone clearly damaged the fuel module brought the car in with zero fuel, and then tried to cover it up ...the technician stated "it was hanging off when I saw it". Zach blamed this entire incident on a recall. Once again in writing the alfa Romeo dealership states this was not possible. I did not accuse Zach or Star right away when I was presented with all the evidence and facts...I called Zach and sent him the email from the service manager who he spoke with and checked my car in with. I simply wanted an answer, and a solution to this issue. It's Friday 4:47pm 2/27/26 my car is 246 miles away one way. The additional cost is $1113.31. I just wanted my car back. When I went down to Star after my phone call with Zach to simply discuss this in person...they said Paul is on vacation and that there was nothing they could do for me. I said I wanted to believe Zach wouldn't take advantage of me knowing how hard things were already finically ....Austin and Zach made many excuses that were not only unreasonable and impractical explanations for this incident but Austin then proceeded to yell at me and threatened to call the police on me. To the owner Paul...I know you are not aware of any of this, and from one business owner to another I am truly sorry this is what your employees are doing behind your back representing your business. I could have chosen a statefarm preferred shop, but due to my past experiences with Star, Dave specifically when he was there I chose your shop. Paul please contact me regarding this matter. I do have more documents and a video of my encounter with Zach and Austin this evening if you'd like to see to give you a full perspective. What should have been a straightforward, free recall repair turned into a situation where I was suddenly being asked to pay $4,800 for a transmission failure that occurred immediately after this dealership had possession of and driven my vehicle. I brought my car here specifically to have a recall addressed. The dealership completed the recall work and returned my vehicle to me. Shortly afterward, I contacted them because something was clearly wrong with the car. They came and picked it up, and that is when I was told I suddenly needed a new transmission. Here is what makes this situation even more concerning: when I questioned how a vehicle that was functioning properly before the recall appointment could suddenly require a transmission immediately afterward, I was told there was no documentation showing the condition of my vehicle when they initially received it or when they returned it to me. That lack of documentation is incredibly troubling. I spoke with CLARK, who identified himself as the service department manager. The customer service I received from him was unacceptable. I called approximately 10 times trying to get a response. I left messages, and on multiple occasions I was transferred directly to him, only for him to pick up the receiver and hang up rather than address the situation. When we finally spoke, Clark acknowledged that my position--that the vehicle had been fine before the dealership had it--was reasonable, but said he needed to speak with the employees who had handled my vehicle and review what happened. According to him, however, no one could remember my vehicle or what had happened to it. Big surprise. I was then told that transmissions can fail unexpectedly and that it was simply a "strange coincidence" that mine failed after the dealership had driven and serviced the vehicle. Maybe transmissions do fail unexpectedly, but given the timing, the lack of documentation, and the fact that my vehicle was functioning perfectly before I brought it in, I find that explanation extremely difficult to accept. The dealership initially wanted to charge me $4,800 to repair the transmission. After I pushed back, they suddenly "found a discount" and reduced the price to $2,800. That is not a minor inconvenience. That is a $2,800-$4,800 financial burden that I was left with after bringing my vehicle in for a recall repair that was supposed to cost me nothing. The entire experience left me feeling that I was being held financially responsible for a problem that occurred while my vehicle was in their possession, while simultaneously being given little documentation, little accountability, and virtually no customer service. I strongly recommend taking your vehicle somewhere else. Based on my experience, I would not trust this dealership with my vehicle again, and I certainly would NOT purchase a vehicle here. If you value your vehicle, your money, and being treated with basic honesty and respect, think twice before doing business here.
