We bought 5 tacos and one house chips and some salsa/guac and it was $75... that should've been the first red flag but whatever. We got the chips and it was seasoned with curry powder??? who is putting curry powder on tacos?? that's not right. I know you're thinking "maybe it's a fusion", if it is it's not a good one. the meat on the tacos were bland. I mean no salt no pepper type of bland. We had to pay extra for cilantro and onions on the tacos. I'm glad we did because it would've just been unseasoned meat and a flour tortilla. That's not a taco. Before you read on, you should know I'm from Texas so my taco bar is pretty high. Heard lots of great things about this place and online reviews are great too. We ordered a chicken, fish and steak taco and chips and Verde salsa. My husband had the steak taco and said it was great. The chips were warm, thick and golden and the verde was good. The chicken and fish taco were meh. Not enough taste, a little bland. And they don't offer any salsa with any of the tacos. Gotta have a little heat. Oh man! Overall it was just a pretty miserable experience. I just wanted an easy afternoon bite and Backyard Taco seemed perfect. Cute little spot with front and back outdoor areas. I won't bore anyone with a narrative so I'll just list the 1-star worthy moments: - laminated menu I ordered from didn't have all items. Probably would have gotten the poke if I knew they had it - sat inside, which was fine, but had front row seat to (presumably) the owner in a backwards hat curse out his older employee for questioning the freshness of his ingredients. The f-words and condescension was a bit much. - the mushed avocados lacked a handful of ingredients to make it guac. It was served in a paper bowl. It was weird (see photo). - the inside seats were mostly occupied with boxes of produce and a broom. - the inside (non bar) seats are good if you want people ordering to step on your feet, and bump your food with their butts. I realize this was probably a unique 1-star experience and wouldn't always happen, but I won't go back. The guy who runs this place should be replaced ASAP. On a rainy day our family of 4 walked in at 12:05pm for lunch. 2 adults and 2 kids. The guy said that the restaurant wasn't ready and it would be another 15 minutes before they could serve food. There were 4 seats at the bar and we sat then asked would you hold these seats for 10 min while we go across street to check out that art gallery? They replied "yes". We came back in exactly 10 minutes and 2 of the 4 seats were taken. Poor choice, so silly to do that and such attitude about it when we voiced our disappointment. Had we not returned in 10 min he could certainly have given the seats away, but we were right on time. Lame. Won't go back here ever again as attitude like that speaks louder than food, as the quality of any food/service will surely suffer is a guy like this in charge. read more
