Love how fresh and tasty backyard taco is! Falafel taco, chicken taco and steak taco are my go tos

Now called Taco MV, this is a fast but expensive taco spot. Whatever you've seen online before, pictured is the current menu. Tacos and a handful of sides. And yes, that is the price of ONE taco. We ordered eight tacos which unfortunately we did not get what we ordered (four of the eight were incorrect), especially since we had add-on sauces that we didn't get. They are not large in size so you'll want to get more than two (two was not enough); the only one that was the bang for the buck was the rafico (combo of beef, pork, and chicken). Fine for a quick lunch but be ready to shell out the $$ for not a lot of food. read more

Food: I ordered a steak and short rib tacos with cilantro and guac. Surprisingly very good! I mean..I've had better ones from taco trucks here in LA but from a small town in Martha's Vineyard, it wasn't bad at all. If you want to get away from all the lobster roll and other seafood places, this is the place to go to. Their guac was a solid B, it had the right amount of lime/salt combo. I think it had minced garlic in there too. The chips were drizzled with some sort of spicier version of tajin. Service: service was great! All were very friendly Ambiance: they had a small area in the back with a few tables and a small area in the front as well. They also have $1 bills stapled all over the walls, commemorating different occasions from visitors all over the world, or at least those visiting MV. My bf, now fiancé, and I came here to eat some tacos after he proposed and of course after I said yes to him read more

A hole in the wall, absolutely overpriced, very dirty (they wipe tables with a disgustingly smelly piece of cloth and the place is literally a dump) place with food so underwhelming even for Martha's Vineyard standard! Avoid at any cost! read more

If I could give no stars I would. Worst Mexican I have EVER had. A four year old could make better tacos. The guac is not fresh and is microscopic. It was disgusting. An abomination to Mexican culture. read more

A++++ tacos! We love this spot. Get the brisket tacos. And awesome margaritas. We go way too often. read more

Great service amazing corn tortillas and the eggplant tacos to die for. Fun ambiance.

I've had tacos living in Los Angeles, New York and Detroit which all have great taco places. For the Vineyard, this place is fun, and the tacos are very flavorful. I had the mushroom tacos and they were juicy and delicious! Only downside is they seem to run out of certain proteins and the some of workers don't always know how to communicate. It is a nice hole in the wall place and a good option for a late night snack. Service is a little slow as expected since the tacos are made right in front of you. read more

It was our first time at Martha's Vineyard, we were here our second day and decided to take a stroll to find a quick bite to eat, my husband decided possibly Mexican food, I would not even feed this to the poor dogs in India! The employees are extremely rude the gal in the front the woman started to pick at her skin took our order and then decided to make the food, right in front of us and it came out tasting like Curry, we love curry but not mix white Mexican food. when we asked for salsa she had no idea what it was. PLEASE DO NOT EVEN GO IN!! Please read more

Has anyone ever eaten here more than once? Why? A slow, poorly equipped hole in the wall with little seating and mediocre (at best) food. How can you be out of fish on the vineyard? My $7 side of mango salsa was a squeeze of tangy sauce. Take your hankering for tacos to Nomans and skip this place. read more

Wow. Delicious! this was really a great experience and the food was amazing. everyone was super nice and the food tasted warm and fresh and home cooked. I ordered a beef taco and yuca fries and it was definitely top ten tacos i've had. The yuca fries could have used some more sauce. The only thing i would change is that they only have six tables plus about four counter seats so it was difficult to find a place to sit. overall 9.5/10 food, 7/10 experience because of the lack of seating options read more

Went there for tacos and they were well flavored, but They forgot the side of cashew cheese and tried to convince me it was on the taco. Good marks for tacos but service inconsistent. read more

Some of the best tacos I've had in my life. This place is great, so unique in character and as delicious as it gets, I'm so grateful to have crossed paths for I'll be back every time I visit the island! read more

No frills but absolutely delicious! Get the margaritas with jalapeños and fish tacos. Staff was helpful and best tacos/Mexican I've had on the island so far!! With COVID and in general, there isn't really any seating! It's also somewhat hidden so be aware of that. read more

I don't get the positive reviews for this place. Service from the order taker / bartender was pitiful at best. She did not acknowledge us when walking in...we actually had to ask her to take our order. Also, just completely unfriendly throughout the process of ordering. They were out of basic materials for running a restaurant, like salt for margaritas, and napkins. Also put of some of the tacos I wanted to try. They actually had a roll of bathroom paper towels on the counter. Now on to the food; there were no real descriptions on the menu board so you really have no idea what your getting. I ordered a mushroom taco for my wife, thinking it would not be too spicy. It was crazy, hot spicy...so spicy that one bight was enough to ruin her appetite for anything else. The cauliflower taco has an Indian curry, which was also not mentioned anywhere. Ambiance is okay, if you don't mind eating on the dirty porch, or on funky tables that are literally in the street. It's pretty obvious that non of the employees enjoy working here. Take my advice and avoid. read more

Tacos are decent. We tried steak, chicken, fish and cauliflower tacos. Flavors were on the blander side but still good! Not spicy. Guacamole is delicious! Definitely recommend the house-made tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole. read more

I'm honestly not sure why this place has received so many good reviews. The food is meh - that's the best word to describe it. I got a fish rice bowl and cauliflower taco - the cauliflower was all mush. The fish lacked flavor, the rice had absolutely no seasoning in it. I truly think they just took a piece of grilled fish, laid it on plain brown rice and topped it with some sweet mango sauce. Nothing special at all. What really got to me was the young lady taking our orders at the front. Don't know her name, but today she was wearing a red off-the-shoulder top and white shorts. As someone who lives in NYC, I have built a tolerance for rudeness - but this girl was flat out, just rude, and for no reason. She rushed us in taking our order and when we asked her to describe a few of the tacos, it's as if we had caused her the biggest inconvenience in the world. It was extremely off-putting. Here's my thing - if you're going to show me an attitude, then at least get my order right. I ordered the cauliflower taco ted's way and they gave it to me mauricio's way. read more

This is our favorite restaurant in Edgartown. Very casual. Personable owners everything is made fresh for each order. Small with few seats but worth the wait. Another location opening in Oak Bluffs this summer. Enjoy read more

This is not a well established eatery. First time going to try it and a couple people standing outside told us the owner was not there yet to open the place up for business and it would be another 20-30mins. It was already 530pm on a Friday night and we just got off the ferry. Won't bother with place. Great other locations to try who will treat you properly. read more

This was more of a 2 1/2 * situation. Although everyone raved about this place, I just didn't see what all the hype was about TBH.... This is a small place with limited seating in the front, inside and back for about 35 people all together. The owner runs the cash register and can be rather stubborn. We spoke to him about the vegan nachos not being "fully" loaded and cold and he was rather dismissive. We had to go back and forth about an item we sent back and no one came back to check on us (we later saw our waitress outside on her phone). He demanded that his staff would make us a new order, however, everyone from our group finished their meal and we were on our way out the door. After one of the staff explained they didn't have all of the necessary ingredients to make the nachos, he reluctantly refunded us $10, but not the tax that I know that I initially paid! read more

One of those gem hole-in-the-wall eateries, where the tortillas are handmade in-house, and the flavors are amazing. The fish taco was great, but the clear winner was the falafel taco. Since it was vacation, I tried a spicy margarita with my late lunch, and it was just the right combo of tequila, sweet, and spicy. This place is going in my list of favorites!! read more

Small place. Great tacos. A long wait time though. Grab a table or sit outside and eat. Very reasonable. Margarita s weren't great.

After reading so many good reviews I was so excited to try this place and I'm sad to say that I was really dissapointed :( My friends and I ordered some chicken and steak tacos and they were mediocre at best. The tortilla was great but everything else lacked flavor. I would recommend coming here if you're craving tacos but it's just ok. read more

Backyard Taco - And their Tacos are bomb. - Mexican Near Me - Edgartown, Massachusetts

Wow does this place suck. They toss some ground beef and a couple of chopped up raw onions pieces add a little sauce, and it a taco. Charge you 8 bucks for it. Margaritas are horrible as well, and the staff is as unfriendly as you could ask for. How this place is still in business baffles me. Makes Taco Bell look like gourmet food. read more

Gluten allergy friendly spot. The tacos are made to order and the tortillas are fresh! I love the braised short rib and house nachos. Whether you're going out for lunch, dinner, or pre-drinks snack this spot is a go-to! read more

Tacos were decent. But come on these prices are insane. $7-9 for one tiny taco. It's a rip off even for Edgartown. I don't understand how this place has such positive reviews given the pricing. read more

First things first...VERY EXPENSIVE. I decided to check this new place out and for starters, I walked in and the employees just starred at me. It's confusing on where exactly you have to order. I noticed it happened to several others as they walked in too. Also this place is ridiculously expensive and not even worth a try, tacos are simple and small, chips are plain. And the guac....ITS JUST CRUSHED AVOCADOS ! Definetly never going back. Just thought I'd share my experience, coming from a 100% latino who knows what real tacos are! read more

Best spot on the island for quality casual food and margaritas. Tacos are unreal due to the homemade corn tortillas. Spicy margaritas are made with fresh pressed jalapeños! Perfect level of flavor without being too hot. Family that runs it are amazing. Favorite place on the island. read more

Pico was mush, nothing was fresh, and it's overpriced for the product you are getting. I would NOT recommend eating here. It's just bad.

The tacos were decent at best. The house chips were basically chips..... Almost no salsa or cheese on them. The size of the tacos are similar to taco bell and the quality just a step up. Unless you like your tacos plain, expect to pay at least $8 per taco. The place is primarily a pick up and go, but they charge "sit down" prices, without the quality. There are many restaurants in town, I would recommend avoiding this one. It's pretty amazing how many good reviews there are, but the reviews that are 2 and 1 star are more realistic. I won't comment on the staff..... read more

Amazing!! Wish we would have found this gem on day 1 of our trip. My husband got the falafel taco , and he gave it 9 star out of ten.. I had the chicken taco ... probably one of the best I ever had... 10star go by and enjoy!!!! So good! read more

Looking for some delicious late nite eats? Look no further, Backyard Taco is the place. For us, they did not disappoint. Hands down most authentic taco shells we've had in a longgggggg time - a must visit on MV!

Originally from Providence, my ethnicity is from Central America, I can tell you that this place is the best for tacos and margaritas on the whole island hands down! I had the eggplant, mushroom and Rafico tacos (Ted's way) and a spicy margarita. Simply Outstanding. The owner came out introduced himself and gave me the food. All I can say is that this 5 star is well deserved. If you are on Martha's Vineyard, this place is an absolute must try! read more

If you're reading this review because you've been going to Shark-a-Whatzits and craving a more authentic Taco experience you've found the right place... and to be perfectly frank you've been missing out my friend! Seriously - we went back for seconds and then thirds! YUM! If you're reading this in line for tacos you want three of the beef tacos + guac (or the falafel if that's more your thing) and an order of the house chips! Just trust me on this! Backyard Taco has tight quarters, but the food, charm, and fast service makes up for it, and it's pretty affordable as far as dinner out in Edgartown goes! We'll be back time and again for lunch, dinner, and hopefully late night eats too! read more

Tacos are delicious and people are nice but food takes a long time but maybe that's because they have so many customers .
