A friend invited me to join a band of acquaintances for a quick night out after work. I'm almost certain this is the first bar in Chantilly I've visited since the pandemic began four years ago. Super interesting experience when you're with a regular. There are drinks on the table before you even see a menu, so you just *know* your bartender's been doing his job there even before NASA demoted Pluto from the solar system's planet lineup. Speaking of lineup, there are TVs located right above your noggin running sports ads, and sudden sounds of metal or glass crashing every ten minutes. (Hopefully metal.) I've got an auditory sensitivity thing and I can't linger anywhere for long when cigarettes makes me sick, so tonight was a two hour struggle. Who cares -- I chose to go out. (and i loved the dim lighting!) The food is also really fun. I was pleasantly surprised to see a plate of Mussels and a Grilled Salmon on the menu, both around $20. Both very easy to share. Added bonus that our dual bartender/server was as accommodating as humanly possible. I drank so much ice water. Cons: - Deafening karaoke night, eating area saturated with the smell of cigarettes. People will unabashedly touch your shoulders. Regulars will lock eye contact with you and Start Walking In Your Direction. People sometimes don't adhere to the non-smoking area. Slightly concerning that young people don't get ID'd more carefully. You will come home smelling like the crumbs in my air fryer. Pros: - If you haven't experienced a middle-aged white man in a neon orange jersey belt "Hey There Delilah" in near perfect pitch, this is a good karaoke moment. This experience is sweetened by the fact that the last 15 minutes have broken your ears and mind with appalling renditions of "Uptown Funk" and "Sweet Alabama." Savor it while you can. - This feels like a tight-knit community. A lot of people here are intensely friendly and casual. It is very easy to feel welcome here if you're open to the interaction. Heartwarming experiences abound. - Beautiful trees and patio lights surrounding the open outdoor seating area. Very animal crossing (nintendo switch) vibe. Parking is also straightforward. - Way better restrooms than I expected. Only two stalls, but still. read more

It is evident when you walk in and are greeted by the stale cigarette smoke leftover from years gone by, that you've entered a bar. The walls are in need of repair and updating. Seeing a raccoon and other wildlife cartoon figures on the walls reminded me of when I took my son to Chucky Cheese. It might be a good place to watch a game and eat bar food. The reuben sandwich was soggy on the bottom and lukewarm. There was a watery sauce oozing off the sandwich making the fries soggy. The cheeseburger was average as were the cheesesticks. read more

I stopped in for happy hour with friends... The bartender was very helpful and friendly and they have some decent options for drinks. They also have decent bar/pub style eats here. The place is rather decent size, so you can sit inside or outside at bars or tables. read more

This is a local sports bar frequented by locals. The food was excellent specifically the grilled wings. This is a decent size place with inside and outside seating. The service was attentive and prompt. The establishment is part of a plaza with other restaurants and shops with ample parking. There are TVs surrounding the large bar in the middle of the establishment. The ladies room was clean which was a plus. read more

Food was good, service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was everything you'd expect in a sports bar. Plenty of TVs visible from just about any part of the room. Downside - expensive, and although they have a place for a band to set up, it is certainly not a band venue. There is no place to sit near the band, or even where they are visible, so I won't go back for music. Final verdict - if you're looking for someplace to hang out, grab a few beers, and watch sports on TV, then this place is great. If you're going for any other reason, maybe choose another spot. read more

Had the Cuban sandwich at lunch today, which was pretty good. I won't be going back since this establishment has a "service fee" policy to charge for using a credit card. I didn't see any notice on the menu about the charge and the practice certainly wasn't very prominently displayed. I see in another response that the owner thinks a lot of businesses add a fee for credit cards. In my experience it is very rare. There are plenty of other restaurants that haven't resorted to sticking the customer with a processing fee. I'll be taking my business to those places. read more

Backyard Grill is a good choice for lunch as they have plenty of variety on the menu. We needed a close spot after visiting the space and air museum in the rain. It's located in a shopping center so thankfully, it was easy to find parking on a Monday in a downpour. We arrived as a group of eight so we got comfortable seating in the back. Our waitress, Cheryl, greeted us kindly and got our food and drink order in. Food came out at a great pace. All dishes were fresh and hot. The Hazy Like a Fox IPA is good for those who enjoy citrus-tasting beverages. The sampler platter surpassed our expectations - potato skins were loaded and generous, the fried egg roll - so yummy and delicious filling (this was surprisingly good) , chicken tenders were good. Southwest salad - it was a standard salad. Just okay and similar to something you can make at home. But the portion is large and satisfying. The bathroom is clean and warm inside! I like that the stalls have an actual door. Kid-friendly spot and plenty of space in the bathroom if you have to take young kids in there. read more

Went there on a Sunday evening for family dinner. Overall, it was "fine". Last time there was several years ago for a happy hour. I appreciate that the owner/representative is on Yelp and responds to comments. Food was fine as bar food goes. Broad menu. As mentioned in another review, no cocktail prices on the menu. Curious that there's an upcharge listed on the menu for getting fries with Old Bay, but that's apparently how they come by default as a side when with a burger or sandwich (w/ no upcharge, but also not described that way on the menu). Service was fine. Two inconveniences were that we waited longer than expected for drinks/refills and had to flag down the server to get our check. Ambiance was ok. Large outside area that we thought would be nice to take advantage of on a summer evening. There was a band outside which made things very loud and we had to shout to our table-mates, even though we sat as far away as we could. They allow smoking outside which seems to be a popular thing to do. We thought about requesting to move inside because of the band and smoke, but decided to stick with staying outside. Overall rating would've been a 4 if not for the unexpected 3% "Service Fee" attached to the check without explanation or description, which is honestly what drove me to write this review in the first place. It's apparently for using a credit card, which is interesting since it was on the check when it was handed to us and not after I let them know how I'd be paying. I consider it to be a deceitful way to charge customers more for the cost of doing business (vs. a straightforward way like raising menu prices). (And hey, if I missed the large print on the menu that described what this charge was for and that it would be applied automatically to your bill and could be removed by paying cash, then I guess that's on me. And my wife, too, since she missed it also.) But why not charge more for those sitting inside and using A/C, or a cover for those sitting outside and listening to the band, or whatever cost of doing business you're trying to recoup? It obviously hits a nerve of mine, and I don't expect to return to a business that does it. read more

We did a military retirement here, and it was wonderful!!!! Strong recommend for any event. The staff was terrific and accommodated every request. The space was perfect, food was great, service made sure I (the emcee) was never without a drink, the other patrons came up to congratulate the retiree! We've driven by many times but hadn't stopped. I was craving a burger--not from one of the fast-food places, so we decided to experiment. Glad we did. We sat "outside" which was open to the outdoors via moveable walls, but comfortably cool indoors. In the area, there was a bar and sports on the TVs. It was a late lunch so not incredibly busy, and the waitstaff was really attentive. There is a also a patio area, but it was middle of the day so too sunny for comfort. I had a California burger that was big and delicious. My husband had a Reuben sandwich that he really enjoyed. The fries were good, too. We didn't save room for dessert (it was lunchtime and we had plans after) so we ordered for carryout on Father's Day--just dessert. The salted caramel cake was really great and the Italian Lemon cake was good, too. We're looking forward to trying other things on the menu soon. read more

its usually great, other than the headbanger music thats always playing and loud drunks early in the day, lol, but today was disappointing. not sure where the two wonderful waiters went or if they quit, but today's waiter was not friendly and messed up a couple of things. we had a bogo (buy one get one free) brunch coupon (but i pay full tipping prices when that happens) and i let him know i would. anyway, the hubby ordered eggs over easy but they came over hard, as if hard boiled and burned around the edges. he was afraid to send them back, and insisted, to the waiter, that he would eat them as is. but the waiter should have seen it was wrong vs brought them out. also, they used to have amazing pancakes but these were thin, burnt on one side and hard to cut, due to this, so we didnt eat them. the waiter said they dont have sugar free syrup, but it would be nice if you all carried that in the future. its cheap at walmart. the owner took the uneaten pancakes away and had to notice that they were not eaten. he took a hard look at them. the bacon, last time we went, was light and almost fluffy, easy to bite through but today, it was like leather. very odd. maybe thats why no one was there, on the dining side as the food is not consistent like people count on with their fav restaurants. plus, the loud cursing and loud head banger music, from the bar, is not family friendly. it was that way the last few times we went, over the last several months. maybe they can partition off that area somewhere, without too much cost. having said that, i ordered the crab cake eggs Benedict and OMG, it was to die for, soooo good! best commercial/restaurant crab cake i have had as it had NO shells or cartilage (like so many of them do). the seasoning was just right, and was full of crab, not filler. as expected, the waiter did not take off the 2nd meal, yet he took my coupon. when i mentioned that, he seemed to instantly know that was the case, as he waited for me to hand over my credit card, so, when you go there, be sure to check the receipt. we should have to do that, as we want to trust any server that brings the bill. when the sweet older man, the owner, asked how things were, we didnt have the heart to complain but i did want to mention this on my review here is all. read more

I was looking for a Monte Cristo sandwich as I'd had a craving for a few weeks. I called for carry out (I was on the road en route to Fairfax) and ordering was so easy; the staff asked for my ETA so they'd know when to start preparing the sandwich. I was pleased to find out they offer sweet potato fries! I was pleasantly surprised on my arrival, as you walk into a game (board game) store! I used to have Quesadillas from that place in the past and it was tasty. Now, it is a different story. The pita you can barely chew because was kind of out of refrigerator, pulled pork was at least few days old with some kind of smell. The whole quesadilla was filled with broiled onion and green pepper. I do not recommend this place to eat if you want fresh good food. read more

Edit 3/22/21: Since posting my review, the manager has reached out to me and was very understanding and willing to get to the bottom of why I had a poor experience. I may have harsh on my critic of Backyard Grill, based on the one bad experience that I've had out of my many trips. I have since edited my review to better reflect the cumulation of all of my trips to the restaurant. My coworkers and I have been regulars at this restaurant for a long time now, and my company even hosted a party here at one point. I've always thought it was a standard sports bar and never really had an issue with their food or service. Their food and service has always been consistent. However, on my last visit I was deeply disturbed by a server that had a lack of concern for restaurant health code. I am hoping to return back and give them another try, but it might take some time to due to my most recent visit. read more

This place can be a hit but usually its a miss. I have been here a couple times for dinner and its been just okay, nothing special. So I knew they had Sunday brunch and wanted to try it. Adults pay $14.95 and kids pay $8.95 which isn't a bad deal at all. They have options such as fish, rice, roasted veggies, breakfast meats, roast beef, made to order omelettes, belgian waffles, raw seafood bar, eggs benedict and some other assortments. What I liked most was bacon of course, biscuits and sausage gravy wasn't too bad, homestyle potatoes and maple sausage. Everything was quite bland, had to add some salt and pepper to most. Even the orange juice was too sour, I'm guessing they make it homemade? Because once an employee saw me make a "sour" face after drinking the OJ he told me he was going to tell them to make another one. The next one was a little sweeter but definitely not as sour. Summer is a good place to go for HH since its nice outside and they open the patio. But other than that, food is okay, service was a bit slow. I wanted to leave but I couldn't find the waiter until 10 minutes later. No idea what he was doing since he only had 2 tables. Don't waste your money here unless you're just coming for drinks but not sure how good they are with that either. read more

I ordered a sirloin which was very tasty, but there are lots of great items on the menu so I will be going back! If you like to sit at the bar, ask for Jason - it was a busy night but I felt like he was my own personal bartender. 5 stars all around! read more

Despite Covid , I'm glad my local joint is still open and operating ! The food is consistently good , they always have great beer and drink offerings and the bartenders are all super friendly ! I love coming here because it's the only local place that serves Oysters without breaking the bank ! The daily soup offerings in winter are also a huge plus. My favorite plate however is hands down the baby back ribs! For about 20 dollars you get enough to serve like 2-3 people and the ribs are perfection ! Best plate here ! Also I Love that even though it's cold , they still have the outdoor bar open and partially covered . Having ventilation and fresh air helps reduce covid spread so I honestly feel a bit safer eating here as long as I have that outside air option . I hope they don't close it . It maybe cold but hey , more reason for warm soup and beer ! read more

Everything on their menu is pretty pricey so I'm glad we got a Groupon to try this place. We got the potato skins as an appetizer and they're actually wedges instead of the traditional potato halves, which was an interesting twist to a classic dish. My boyfriend got a philly cheesesteak which was huge and I got a crab cake eggs benedict that came with a side of home fries. Both dishes were really yummy! I could tell they really value good customer service here because our server was attentive and the manager also stopped by a few times to check on us. They also have survey/comment cards on the tables so that you can give your feedback on your experience. I liked how they had a different special on the menu depending on what day of the week it was. C is for Chantilly, VA I went here one beautiful sunny Friday on May 13, 2016 for a Meetup group happy hour event. I ate the quesadilla, which was decent (nothing to write home about either), but it took a long time for it to come out. The patio area was nice & spacious. This is a good place for a drink but not for the food. Also, I remember I was talking to this one chick who lived in BFE aka New Baltimore (east side of Fauquier County), and we had a nice conversation. The organizer of the group knew her and asked her to come over there. She said she would come back. Well, guess what? She never came back! On a positive note, on this beautiful day two years ago, I made a friend here who I had met one or two times before, but I talked to him more here. He had a lot of insight, but said that the female organizer of the group essentially c***blocked me, which is what she does if she senses that a guy is talking too long or whatever. Anyway, good memories! But mediocre when it comes down to it. If I lived in VA still, I would potentially visit again. read more

I very much enjoyed this establishment. Prices are low for a relatively expensive area. Their philly cheesesteak with whiz is awesome. I totally recommend that with a good beer. My girl got the teriyaki salmon. That was a bit small for the price but the mashed potatoes were awesome. Other people in our party got some delicious looking stuff like the stuffed potato skins, mussels, oysters and nachos. Next time i am in the area i will stop in and try a few more things. We stopped here on the way to the airport to grab a late lunch. The food was delicious. I had a Backyard roasted salad with salmon. I highly recommend it.
