This is a great bar in what I deem the middle of no where. My dad (Cajun Crawfish King) started boiling here this season. And I will admit, as a city girl, I was SKEPTICAL. But let me tell you about this "motorcycle bar" deep in Montgomery County. It is the local bar to some of the nicest people you will ever happen upon. It's staffed by some of the best bartenders I've ever come across. It has a killer deck overlooking a pond and wildlife. Being out here, even when I'm working my butt off slinging crawfish, is relaxing. They offer good live music much of the time. They host benefits for members of the community. They are definitely their own little family. And I, for one, am humbled to have experienced it this Spring. read more

Went to this hidden gem yesterday as we were in conroe for the first time to watch my niece in a softball game and we were looking for a place to kill time, have a few beers with a bit of scenery and this place did not disappoint. great scenery on top of great service, good prices, and the food from the food truck behind called the meat wagon was delicious. Wings and boudin balls for appetizers is a must. Catfish plate was as we say in hawaii so Ono! Tiffanie the bartender is very welcoming and just great at making you feel at home and her service was excellent. Definitely a must come back. Hope to get a room next time to see live music on stages. Thank you all read more

In a slight departure from my norm, I ventured down 1488 East of I-45, and settled into a scene from Sons of Anarchy. Despite my burmuda shorts and Hawaiian shirt, AJ, bartender extraordinaire, introduced herself, and fellow patrons before snapping the top off a cold Coors and pointing me in the direction of the free Sunday buffet of BBQ and all the fixin's then running through the History of Alligators that have lived in the pond below the back deck. If you want an experience you won't soon forget, step out of you comfort zone and into The Backwoods Saloon. I'll be back for more. read more

We stopped in for a quick drink and I found this bar to be a great place to hang out. The staff is very personable, the bathrooms were clean, there were several TVs to watch sports, and an overall warm, rustic atmosphere. They have ample shaded parking under trees for those with bikes, as well as gravel parking for cars. They have a deck in back overlooking a pond (complete with an alligator). A real gem of a place. The atmosphere from a deck looking over a pond with turtles then the inside cool and clean. The staff was very friendly. We went last night (Tuesday) for steak night special. Four of us, the steaks were tender and cooked perfect. Loaded baked potatoes and salad included. We'll definitely be back. read more

There's plenty of seating outside or inside with a pool table, a stage for live music and a dance floor if that's your thing. There's a pond out back with a couple gators that people usually feed on steak night Tuesdays. And if you want to bring your pooch that's ok as dogs are welcome, just not on Tuesdays. read more

The Pros: The wait staff is great, they have peanuts to go with their beer and wines, drinks are reasonably priced, there's a nice deck overlooking a swampy pond and woods. they've gotten some good bands, and the jukebox is rockin. Nice outdoor area for bands, or just sitting in the sunshine with your beer listening to the jukebox. CONS: SMOKERS HEAVEN on earth. You couldn't cut through the smoke inside with a chainsaw. Outside isn't much better since there's not just a few smokers that hang out there. Very small boring selection of draught beer and hardly any craft beer. The backwoods will be ripped out and replaced with parking lots (yay? can't get me enough parking lots! not.) read more

They like to close early and have attitudes. Bar is understaffed and takes about 10 minutes to get a drink on a busy night.

Sad to say I have to lower my review score by one star. My husband and I went here for Steak Night on 9/29/15 for the 1st time in a couple of months. We were warned by the folks we were sharing a table with that the steaks weren't the same quality - not sure the cut, but definitely not the T-bone they were known to serve. Our table neighbors continued, saying they weren't able to eat their steaks b/c they were so chewy, but hoping their dogs would enjoy them. Sure enough, when we got ours, it was just as they'd said - jaw-hurting chewy, like rubber, and not cooked to order. It was so disappointing b/c their T-bones had been melt-in-your-mouth delicious! We didn't finish ours, either but did take them home. Because I didn't want to waste the food, I ground the meat in the food processor to make soft tacos, but the meat was still too chewy. So, I did try to make it work! I'm not sure what happened and why the change, but we won't be returning for Steak Night. :( read more

This place is always one of the best places to hear live music in the Conroe area. There is no cover charge and the owners are friendly and love their music, The Sunday jams are legendary, hosted by Lance G & Company, and there are always a lot of good bands and musicians playing some of your favorite music. It was the first time I have ever been to the Backwoods Saloon and I was there to see the "Unthinkable". It was a fabulous night of a variety of music from old and new. We also got to hear some amazing original songs. The amazing talent of the band makes me want to come back and hear more. It was an amazing sound of bass guitar, drumming , harmonica jamming ,and kick butt singing that makes you want to dance and sing every song band. If your are interested in a night of fun rock and roll, I suggest going to see this band. I had so much fun my cheeks hurt from smiling so much and I sang every song played. The band was so good that it was great to see lots of people in the audience videoing them playing. The Backwoods Saloon was a great place to hang out and relax and hear great music from a great band. I will defiantly be looking for the next time they play. :) read more
