Very open work space. Nice building. But really the best chocolate chip cookie! Kind of soft with some sea salt on top! Tasty! Would go back just for the cookie itself. Well, we did it! First snowfall so we splurged for some warm holiday drinks and a walk. Went to our local Backporch on Newport and yet again met with a bustling cafe, friendly service, and some holiday options. I had the peppermint mocha and my friend a vanilla oat milk latte. Lots of beverage choices and milk alternatives. In the summer it's our go to for escape from WFH and sit in the sun with their outside set up. It's a busy place so bring your patience, masks, and tipping hat because these baristas deserve it. Lucky we have this is within walking distance. The giant plants are looking super happy too! read more

They have serveware and ceramic/ glass cups to enjoy your coffee in the shop Cons: When it is busy (came on Thursday at 12pm) there is no space to sit. My macchiato was served with a lot of room in the glass cup. The traditional size is about 3oz total and my drink was served at about 1oz. The coffee was very well made, had a earthy finish that I loved, but I felt short changed due to the lack of foam provided. Although my macchiato was a bit short, this spot by far has been my favorite in Bend, I like that they are local and source/roast their own beans. I will be back :) read more

Backporch is the place I stop for coffee every time I am in Bend. The atmosphere inside is great for relaxing or researching a project, and the outdoor area is a fantastic place to sip a beverage on a sunny morning. The walls are adorned with incredible photography from a few local artists, and the area behind the counter is very modern. Each time I have been here, the baristas are very friendly, asking about my day or plans for the weekend. Some of the suggestions they have made for local places to visit or hikes to take have been very helpful. The quality of the coffee is top notch, and is prepared very skillfully, with an artful expression produced in the foam of every drink. The pastry selection is very good - provided by a local bakery. Cost-wise, the price options are set fairly. I really couldn't ask for a better coffee shop, and have rarely found one I like as much as this. read more

Artisans at work. One of the things that impressed me most on my latest visit to Bend was the ever expanding variety of local coffee roasters. In the past I've gotten my fix at Thump Coffee (serving Portland's Stumptown beans), Strictly Organic Coffee Co. or Townshend's for tea. But this trip introduced me to Backporch, Lone Pine and 11 Roasters. There is a kind of a cool mutual support system going on where several local coffee shops and bakeries sell each others products. So I went to Backporch first and they serve Sparrow Bakery pastries. Then when I visited Sparrow Bakery for breakfast the next day, they serve Backporch and Lone Pine coffee... you get the picture. Bend has consistently impressed me with people with a zest for life who create businesses that allow them to live in this beautiful part of our state. This cafe certainly gives off the 'coffee temple' vibe, complete with signs reminding you to be patient since it takes awhile to craft a quality beverage. So if you are from Portland, and are homesick for Barista, you will feel perfectly at home here. Only the patrons are much more laid back. read more

So I am doing an inventory on all things latte on Bend. This town has amazing legendary lattes. So that's what I originally center to Backporch to get. But! To my surprise they have a Tumeric latte right now. And mmmm so good. The flavor is decidedly turmeric, but gentle. It reminds me of The Dashambe tea house in Boulder. So thats fun. I'll definitely go back to try the lavender but for unique flavors, (and staff awesomeness) 5 stars. read more

Their espresso extraction, the true test of a quality coffee roaster, was spot on. There was light well-balanced acidity, some bright floral notes, and no lingering bitterness. I returned daily, wandering around the menu, taking in the full spectrum of what Backporch had to offer. Not once was I presented with something I didn't like. I went to Backporch on the first day because it was near my Airbnb and wound up coming back 3 times instead of going other places because the coffee was good, the people were SO NICE, and the baked goods were incredible. When they asked how your day was going, it seemed like they actually wanted to know. What a genuine, kind staff. I'd come back even if the coffee was trash (but luckily it wasn't). I liked everything about this place. The atmosphere is starkly black, white, and orange with a few paintings hung about. The coffeebar is clean and well kept. The menu is straight forward and not confusing. This place could seem pretentious to some, just because they have a lot of brewing methods and bean types, but their friendly staff and fresh space make it very welcoming. Now to the brew. I ordered an iced vanilla latte with hemp milk. I took a sip as I walked it over to the doctoring station to add some sugar, etc., but instead walked straight outside because it was already perfect. Best vanilla latte I have had in a long, long time. And I don't say that lightly. I will be back for you, latte. My wife had an Americano and to quote her: "This is the most drinkable coffee I've ever had." I sampled it and agreed. Amazingly smooth and delicious. Really good coffee and nice space. Reasonably priced too (I'm from Portland so I'm used to my hemp milk vanilla latte being a little pricier). The staff was friendly and efficient. Both of us was exhausted but I wanted coffee. And NOT the-rest-of-America kind, but a more local feel. Our second try at a local coffeehouse house and we landed in Backporch Coffee. The other BCR we stopped at first was closed + they never told us to visit this location but we found it anyways...glad we did. He had a regular drip coffee + I the honey lavender latte. After 2 delish sips I have spilled it allover the table. The staff rushed with towels, a mop + made this klutz another one. OMG, being mortified and embarrassed at a new place, they kept it chill. The coffee is fine but wow is the staff at this location rude. We declined a punch card since we're not local and when the cashier asked where we're from he scrunched his nose, said 'ew' and told us our total. He honestly went from friendly to cold in .2 seconds. That alone would not have warranted a review because maybe it was just a poorly executed joke. We laughed it off because whatever, who cares if he doesn't like the town we live in. However, we ordered iced lattes and several hot drinks ordered after us came out first. I'm a barista and know that iced drinks take less than half the time a hot drink does. Coupled with the insult, the delay in service felt intentional.
