Today I went to Back in the Game for my 3rd time. Every time I go the owner is always for nice and social. Today I Went in for a broken screen I thought could t be fixed, they not only fixed it but did it cheaper then any of the competitors !! I don't live in the area any longer, I actually live in Naperville (45min away). I had to stop in the area so I went to Back in the Game since they've always been so welcoming and fairly priced. I went to the Crestwood Back In The Game location to pick up a fixed 3ds I had brought to be repaired and when I had asked the man behind the counter who's name was Caleb, if there was anything else wrong with the 3ds but he gave me a very rude answer. Also, I had to call 3 times just to figure out a single update on the 3ds rather than them calling me which is ridiculous and when I called on a Wednesday the week after I dropped it off, the same man had to put me on hold but I also called on Friday of that same week and a different man didn't even have to put on me hold since he knew already what I was going to ask before I even said. read more

Definitely one of the best Retro Gaming businesses in the Chicagoland area, more specifically the Crestwood Location. They have a decent assortment of games for all types of consoles and have games available at a fair price. Also went in for a repair on my PS2 slim that wasn't reading discs at all. They done diddley fixed my Xbox 360 Slim when there was an issue with hardware. The laser reader seemed to be totally fried, and Back in the Game took the console for maybe two days or so before they had it working again. That was maybe 6 months ago and I haven't had a single issue with the console yet. They had ample opportunity to take advantage of me with prices, parts, hidden fees: and yet they never had a dishonest step. This place is like heaven for nerds, and I respect that immensely. read more

The staff at both of their locations are usually really friendly and enthusiastic and helpful but that is the only real positive thing I can say about Back in the Game. For newer titles (current and last gen) you'll do about as well on pricing and selection as at GameStop and they're a local business, and like I said the staff is awesome, so I'd rather give it to them. I've also been told they're perfectly competent for repair work. On the other hand, their prices for retro are abysmally high, several TIMES higher than pricecharting in many cases (Seriously, 17.99 for loose NES QBert???. It's not even worth that much CIB! 17.99 for Top Gun? That's a 2 dollar game! And it's kind of sad that these and Contra are the NES games they have in the display case). Even the items that aren't priced shockingly high still aren't fairly priced. They'll be a few dollars over pricecharting at best. The consoles are really high too - just 2 weeks ago I got an Intellivision CIB with 10 CIB games, 20 loose carts, and Intellivoice for less than they're asking for the console alone. In general their pricing on classic era consoles is too high. But for Genesis/snes-ps2/Xbox/GC eras they are pretty fair. If you're trying to get into retro, though, you will absolutely pay less for any retro game or system these guys stock at a Disc Replay or Gorilla Games or Play it Retro or People Play Games. Beyond the pricing, their retro selection is pretty meager. Occasionally they have something uncommon or sought after in but generally they are super heavy on sports titles. I think for Dreamcast and N64 they literally only had sports games when I was there the other day. My biggest complaint is that they're selling the NES Classic for like 169.99. That's like 275% of MSRP. I expect those kind of business practices from scumbag scalpers on Craigslist, absolutely not from a legitimate retailer. read more

I brought my Xbox 360S here when the laser died after the warranty had expired. The guys here charged me $65 to fix it and gave me a 90 day warranty, which was infinitely cheaper than paying $80 just to be able to send it to microsoft, and then additional money to actually do the work. Only trouble was that the laser they initially put in turned out to be bad, but after they tested it for themselves, they replaced it within a few days. I'm not the biggest gamer (I usually play in big blocks and then wont play for months), admittedly, I haven't played it since the repair, just used the DVD player and netflix, but so far, no problem. I am happy and will refer them to anyone who needs electronic work done without paying an arm and a leg. They repair computers, game systems, even cell phones. My last visit there, they had a Turbo Grafx 16 console that was missing the controller for $250. I asked the lady at the counter why on earth are they charging a ridiculous amount for it, she stayed silent and didn't answer me. I pulled out a $100 bill and told her id give her a hundred for it. She actually called her manager and he approved it! I give them props for going out of there way to make a sale. But definitely do not shop here for retro games unless your desperate. I brought my laptop in for a hardware replacement nearly three weeks ago. After multiple calls and dismissals by their staff I finally went to their shop to find out what the issue was. To their credit the original problem was fixed. However my laptop currently does not turn on, my track pad is broken, and i have no audio from my speakers as well. There's been no offer of compensation or any explanation as to what happened. Save your time and money. I highly doubt I'll be doing business here again. read more

Employees were good! Bit the pricing was the worst in the vintage!!!! Systems that were ruff looking twice the price I have seen in other places in a 30 mile radius the the systems that did look good were even more over priced... Then the games there were games I wanted but 3 times more in price then there worth... I've seen the same games at other places for a 1/3 of the price... Games with most the label missing asking high dollar and have another of same title that looked mint asking the same price ...the funniest thing was a Sega genesis ultimate portable new they had like 6 of them for almost 80$ really TOYS R US is 44$ I will never go there again and will be telling all my vintage gamers don't go ..... read more

I had an unfortunate incident of spilling coffee on my laptop and it stopped working. I called a local place who referred me to Back in the Game and I took it there. From start to finish, these guys were awesome. They were able to clean up the mother board and disassemble the keyboard since it was fried, and sent me home with an external keyboard until the ordered one comes in. All this done in under an hour. I took my phone in to get my cracked screen replaced. They asked for a deposit and my phone. I decided to prepay for the screen and repair for $130 which is the same as many other places. I went to their repair shop and they said they had a screen in stock and it'll be 45 minutes. When I came back they said it was the wrong screen and to come back in a few days. Almost a week later they called and asked me to come in. I did and they said 45 minutes later and when I got my phone back the same broken screen was on it. They again told me to come back in a few days. My phone now is acting up and turning on and off by itself. When they called 4 days later, I once again was told 45 minutes. When I came back to pick up my phone, it wasn't ready and I was told the option of refund was available. I asked for a refund and was talked into "a little more time" with the service technician to get the screen to work. A few hours later I'm handed my phone and told it won't turn on and I'll have to speak to his boss about compensation the following day. I return the next day and am given a refund of $125 and sent on my way. Long story short: it cost me money for them to break my phone. I didn't even get an apology. NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY!! read more

Amazing. My son's DSi XL game slot had a pin broken off inside and it would no longer read the games. I was not about to pay Nintendo twice what it is really worth to fix it. I had an awful experience at a place called The Tech Guys, or Tekkies, or something in Naperville on North Aurora Rd. They're a bunch of morons. I called in and talked to Ron here and he was amazing. The waiting room was full of people in and out, the phone was ringing, the employees were very nice and helpful. Seemed really happy to be there doing what they do. Behind the counter was a couple of shelves full of repaired XBox's, PS3's, Wii's, laptops, etc that were done and waiting to be picked up. That shows they have a good amount of business and know what they're doing. Although they were swamped with repair orders, the guy I talked to helped me out a ton by fixing the DSi ahead of them a little because I came from almost an hour away and I didn't have to make two trips. They had it about three hours, I believe. It works like new, gave me a good warranty on the part, and were in constant touch with me about the progress. Best of all, their price was the lowest I could find. Good quality guys there and by the looks of what they repair, they can do just about anything. Highly recommend this team of professionals! I love this place the have a great selection of old games I mean collector old. Atari and calico vision old. The guys are nice, well stocked in not just games but iPods iPads and computers. They disk buff which is a rarity now a days. I'm sick of GameStop always asking me 900 times if I want to pre order such and such game or buy something. This place is just fantastic! I recently built myself a gaming PC, and decided that I was done with console gaming. I was going to sell my console and games to the local Gamestop, but they only offer store credit that I won't ever use. I happened to notice this store just across the street. Not only did they offer me more money for my console and games, they also offered to pay me in cash. The world needs more stores like this, and to do away with Gamestop completely. When I was in there I also noticed that they sell used Atari - N64 games and consoles. I may be done with the modern crop of consoles, but I would love to have another NES. I grew up with NES and SNES, and loved so many of those games. I also noticed that they had a copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 in original packaging shrink wrapped and with a store receipt from original purchase from the long gone Omni superstore that used to be in the area. Well I have my Sony receiver back and working like it used to. It was a 2 day turn around from Back In The Game. Hooked all the wires back with the help of tagging. It sounds good and the DVD player works, the receiver works, the speakers work(5.1 surround) and the TV comes through loud and clear. 90 day warranty and cheaper than what I was quoted, can't beat that. I have a new place to recommend if someone needs an electronic fix, couldn't be happier. IT REALLY IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS!!! I can't say anything better!!! read more
