I am shocked that this place has 4 stars. In fact, the reason why I came here was because of all the reviews in Yelp. I'm disappointed in all my fellow Yelpers on this one. I love scallops. I love it so much that there has been no scallop dish that I didn't like. I will eat it any style. But look at this plate... I call this plate a hot mess! My boyfriend said it looks like someone puked on the plate. I really didn't understand the sauce and the scallop tasted like someone dumped a cup of salt on it. The potato was good and cooked well but the sauce made the potato tasted nasty. The ahi tuna was okay... again, it really lack good flavors... over salted ... it just tasted like salt. The arugula salad was ok and the portion was very generous; if you are not a big eater, you may want to order one to share. The salmon was not too bad and the beans were good...again, way over salted....and, would you like little salmon, mash, & beans with your grease????? SMH... never going back! read more

Best kept secret for brunch! I almost don't want to share the secret, but this place is not busy, even on a Saturday. Upscale decor, super friendly staff and the owners are great people. We went here for their Sunday special where there is a gourmet meal for two and a bottle of delicious wine pairing for only $45!!!! We were waited on by I believe her name is Kelly? She was super adorable and so receptive to our needs. We ordered some garlic fries as an appetizer and it did not come out until after our main course and when she recognized that, she did what she could to make it best in class service. Honestly she had such a great attitude and exceptional service, we would've forgiven any mistake. The food was delicious, and the ambience was spot on too. Back Bistro was a pleasant surprise. We have walked by it so many times without even realizing the type of restaurant it is. I think I just assumed it was a sort of cafe. We were blown away by how delicious all the food we ordered was. The filet mignon was so tasty and cooked to perfection. My daughter had the garden pasta and loved it. My hubby had the ahi poke as an appetizer and said it was the best he's ever had. Definitely worth trying. read more

Dropped into the Bistro for a nice lunch w/friend and we ordered 2glasses of Frank Family Chardonnay, which they no longer carry, tried 2 other Chardonnays before we "settled" on our third try which was fine but the quality of chard's they are offering now are not great. I had a salmon Caesar salad and was hugely disappointed to fine 3 small pieces of baked salmon on my salad which then only had 2 pieces of cooked tomatoes and it cost $21.00!!! Come on guys....you can do better than that. Wouldn't recommend their Chardonnays or their salmon salad. Very disappointing. read more

Second visit, and it appears the rushed service is how management wants things run. We arrived WITH a reservation, and had to wait ten minutes while the front desk person ran off - and about the back of the restaurant - with no explanation. But then speed dining began. UGH! Again? First of all, the food was DELICIOUS! We loved it! I would have liked to finish mine, but the gal with the curly hair came by and quickly said "Box for that?" It was awkward, as I had food on my fork, and another guest in our party was still actively eating. The box, and the BILL, were quickly delivered. I was stunned, as I had been enjoying my meal! And how awkward for the other guest in our party who was still eating. RUDE! Advice to Back Bistro: Don't be so RUDE! There were tons of empty tables inside AND outside, so why did you feel it important to interrupt us, stop me from finishing my lunch, and put the pressure on the other guest who was still enjoying her meal? We were NEVER offered refills on our drinks or even offered new drinks. ALL of our drinks were empty. BACK BISTRO - you COULD have made more money! I just do NOT GET why you rush your service! This is our second experience with your "fast food" experience. WHY???? Another employee came out, turned off our heater, closed our umbrella leaving us in full sun. WEIRD. It was our first time at Back Bistro and we were so impressed! They have happy hour every day from 3-6 pm. We ordered the fried artichokes, house cheeseburger, and a glass of the house cabernet. Everything was cooked perfectly and incredibly delicious. The artichokes were served quickly and were hot and crispy. The burger just melted together and had the most amazing blend of flavors! They even split it for us and served it on separate plates. Perfect hang out spot and great location. We will be returning soon. Is no star possible? I sit down, my wife says "Hello" to the bartender. He completely ignores her. It costs nothing to be polite. Comes back, drops two waters off and walks away. Really? This is how you treat a first time guest? Gets even better. There is 1 table in the restaurant an 6 top, a four top comes in and are told it will be 10 to 15 minutes before they can be sat. Hysterical. Any restauranteur worth their salt would seat them, even short staffed and explain that to them. Next, as I pursue the menu, I see there is $2 charge to have your drink smoked! Hmmm. I read all of the amazing reviews of this restaurant, excited to try it out for lunch last weekend with my family. It seems like we had more of a similar experience as Sara S. who reviewed on 2/20/22. Perhaps we had the same male server with tied back hair? We loved that they have a dog-friendly patio and we were able to bring our dog with us. It seemed as though most of the other patrons were also dining outside on the patio with us while we were there, as I only saw a few tables with people eating inside when I went in to use the restroom. The outside tables are not too close together, which I appreciated. The interior of the restaurant is a bit dark for my taste, but I guess that's a "Bistro" for ya! (The women's restroom, as an aside, has beautiful lighting fixtures, but also has that terrible floor glaze that basically acts as a mirror and reflects people as they are doing their business. Ugh, I hate that flooring. Gotta make the dividers longer if you're going to use that!) We ordered the Brussel's Sprouts and the Goat Cheese Fritters to start. People at the table raved over the fritters. The Brussel's Sprouts were also very good, but one had a small black hair attached to it. We didn't mention it to the server and just left that one on the plate. Perhaps an arm hair? Our main courses were mediocre, to be polite. Most people at the table ordered the House Eggs Benedict and the eggs on all of them were overcooked--looked like hard boiled eggs to me. This information we did share with the server. However, he didn't come back to check on us until we were all nearly finished with our meals. I ordered the Loco Moco, but didn't have the gravy with it because I don't eat wheat/gluten and without it, the slow braised shredded short rib was very bland and dry. So, if this is something you would order without the gravy, I do not recommend doing that! The strange thing about our experience that set the tone for our overall awkward experience is that our server responded in a facetious tone when asked about a couple of substitutions when we were ordering. He might have been on the Autism spectrum, and so I do not want to insinuate he intentionally responded that way. After that, he neglected to check on us/did not bring drinks in a timely manner/never came back to see if we wanted anything else or to order dessert (we were planning on it, but he ended up saving us money because he never came back to ask!). This does affect people's experience though, because it doesn't feel good to feel invisible. The best service we received was from a young lady who cleared our appetizer plates as our main courses arrived. read more

A date friendly ambience next door to the Palladio Theatre, with nice bar, bar section, seating for big parties around and to the back is what draws you into this big space. This is a good place for a date and especially happy hour. Which happens every single day 3-6. It gets a little less good after that ... Happy hour choices are good but limited on what wines you can get (2 whites/2 reds). I found the HH wine to be good though. We did try two of the happy hour appetizers and they were tasty. The Fried Goat Cheese Fritters and the Ahi Poke on Rice Cakes. Both quite good. I think my wife got the winning main dish, the Shrimp and Lemon Flatbread. It was tasty, with tiny lemon slivers all over it, which made it divine. Really thin crust, not amazing, but good, and good for your diet. Flavors were better than average on that dish. I am a bit of a Lamb Burger snob. I ordered this to see if it would be a winner from the kitchen. It was just average. Very highly seasoned to the point that the sodium numbed up my tongue a bit. Hard to taste the lamb, and it was well done while I had asked for medium rare. Luckily the bus boy helped me out with lots of water afterwards, so I could rehydrate, I am sure my blood pressure spiked tonight. Service was prompt, and friendly. Overall the ambience and happy hour prices were the best part of this first experience, not quite a 4 star experience however. Come enjoy a drink and see if the food here is worth your money. I'd have to try more to be convinced it ranks higher than 3 shiny markers. But since it seems the kitchen does suffer from some execution issues, I am not sure I feel that compelled to come back. Came in at 2pm and realized next time we might want to come at 3pm for happy hour. Loved the discounts. That's OK we had a great lunch with our poodle on the patio. We were the only ones out there. After a while I was going in to tell the waiter we were ready to order. I saw him quickly walking our way before I got up. He came out and said, "I am so sorry I forgot I seated you. I was prepping ginger for the bar. Let me make it up to you with drinks on me." I so appreciated the truth! Everything went right on schedule from there. Hubs got iced tea and I NEEDED a hot toddy. Still fighting a sore throat. Trevor made an excellent one. Hubs got the burger and I got the BLTA (bacon, tomato, lettuce and avocado.) I had a bite of the burger, which is ground short rib and filet mignon. I love steak and really enjoyed the beefy flavor. Hubs said it was a very good burger. He also got a side of fries. I had a couple of those too. The Parmesan and garlic really made them a decadent side. My BLTA really hit the spot. The crispy bread was perfect. It's our favorite place for special dinners and out of town visitors. They grind their own meat and make all the dishes and desserts in house. The steak pots never disappoint, with excellent flavor and sauce. You will literally want to lick the plate it's so good! The Gouda Mac you will crave and there won't be a drop left over. We love to order family style and share. And...don't overlook the burger which is hands- down the best in Sacramento County. They grind and season the meat creating a flavorful, delicious burger. You can also order it with BBQ Bourbon sauce and bacon- to die for! Our friends from out of town said it is the best burger they have ever had. AJ and Brandon are servers you can count on to remember your name and what you love to order there. They are professional, thoughtful and enjoyable. Trevor is a fantastic bartender and makes an epic Aromatic Old Fashioned or Lemon Drop. The pot de creme is house made custard, caramel sauce and ganache. In the last few years, I have opted out of asking for a b- day cake on my birthday, and have my dinner and dessert at Back Bistro, with the pot de creme for my dessert. They also have a new s'more brownie that is original and delicious. Everyone loved both desserts on our last trip and there was not a bite left. I highly recommend Back Bistro for any special dinners, out of time guests you would like to impress, or a casual happy hour that never disappoints. There was nobody at the reception desk and the waitresses were busy chatting with the clients. we were able to call the attention of one, to be seated. Then, we were ignored for 15 minutes until we were able to flag a waitress. The strange thing was that the waitress kept attending the table next to us and never even looked our way until we flagged her. Like I said the food was delicious and the atmosphere nice. I haven't been since they moved to the new location - and wowza - such a great atmosphere! I had a friend visiting from Colorado and this was the perfect place to enjoy the late summer/early fall evening on the patio. The outside is perfectly decorated and lit! The service was friendly and spot-on. Frequent enough to keep us filled but not so frequent that our catch-up conversation was frequently interrupted. We hosted a Bridal Shower on the patio with 20 people. Everything was setup exactly as promised by AJ. Our server Jack was the best, so attentive during the three hour party. He made sure we had everything we needed all throughout the party. He went above and beyond when we needed anything. He kept our drinks filled, ensured our food was delicious and promptly brought us anything extra we requested. Everyone who attended were very happy with their choice of brunch meal. Serving 20 people at once can be a challenge but the Bistro made it seamless even using the persons name as they delivered their food. Oh, I'll definitely be heading BACK to Back Bistro, and if you find yourself hungry, thirsty and spent after a day of shopping at the Palladio, you should definitely check it out for the first time! I dug the modern decor and appreciate that the space caters to both small and large groups. The bar is a great size and the ceiling and wall art are gorgeous! My friend and I decided to share several of the "small plate" options given the drool we experienced when reading through them! We tried the... - goat cheese fritters (yum! Crunchy on the outside meets warm and creamy cheese filling,) - the ahi poke (perfect for sharing! Loved the won ton chips,) - and the pork tacos (because tacos = always. And these didn't disappoint.) We also both tried a couple of the signature/seasonal cocktails. We appreciated the thought that went into them (and that the servers and bartenders collaborated together on taste and names) but didn't quite enjoy the drinks overall. The options were all on the sweeter side. It might be nice to have a balance between the sweeter and less sweet signature cocktails. read more
