Oh no didn't pick up that spare!!!

Came with the family for the annual Christmas family championship complete with a trophy . This bowling alley was very clean. After customers finished bowling and left , the staff was quick to sanitize tables and seats. What's a bowling alley without a bar.. full bar, mocktails and beer. Also a grill for food, good selection on menus. Although we didn't buy any food since we were going out afterwards. Video Games for kids in the Game Zone. This is one of 2 bowling alleys my family frequents. It's not as glitzy but was easier to get a reservation than the other one.

Our family loves to bowl! Back Alley Bowling in Glendale is a classic bowling alley that's perfect for families and kids. We recently took advantage of their "kids Bowl Free" bowling deal. We arrived when it opened and the bowling alley was clean and well-maintained, it had a classic bowling alley vibe. Since we arrived early, it felt like our own private bowling alley. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they were great at explaining the kid-friendly bowling deal. We appreciated the pro tip about free parking on the next block, metered parking is available in front of the alley if you prefer. They have food and drinks, and a full bar. The menu options looked decent, and the prices seemed reasonable. The eating area is spacious with plenty of tables and TVs all around. Vending machines are provided if you need a quick snack, they also have a water bottle filling station which is a great bonus. The arcade is small, and basic. They also have two pool tables which are a fun option for adults and personal lockers for your belongings. Bumpers and ramps are provided for smaller kids, however the ramps can be a bit wobbly. We had a great time at Back Alley Bowling and would definitely recommend it to families with kids that want to have the "Kids bowl Free" deal, call ahead to see to what deals they have.

Honestly it was not really all that to me! The best was the bar I ordered my friend a drink and the drink was good my friend said. the bartender was very patient and kind so that's a plus! The Dj was not all that to me and the music was not poppin' the pro is that it is spacious and have many bowling lanes. They do however, have a long wait and we waited for a while to get a lane. It's very busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait. I did not bowl but the lanes have decent seating area for you party or family. It is very kid friendly and good for family! They have food to choose from and many drink options! They have parking in the lots adjacent to the Glendale Court House! Overall, not sure if I'll be back I feel it can be more modern and a little updated, and better Dj to make it live!

Bowling fun!

It was my first time here for my nephews 13th Birthday Party. It was so much fun for everyone! I usually help at the birthday parties, but Lisa, our dedicated host for the party, had it all under control. Tables were set-up early, lanes ready and she checked with the parents about food timing, location and how the bowling lanes should be set-up. Super easy with all the adults on one lane and the teenage boys on 2 lanes sharing the space. I also enjoyed being away from the league bowlers so the boys could be as silly as they wanted to. The food was surprisingly good for a bowling alley - pizza comes with the party and we liked the meat one the best. Add on chicken tenders too - I liked them the best! You can bring your own desert - and we had a cake from Porto's which Lisa brought out at the end, served and then cleaned-up and boxed all extras. I really wish we lived closer so I could have my son's birthday there. So easy and fun for teens.

The bowling alley has a serious problem. Not only are their fans not working so well but they don't seem to want to spend the money to fix the ventilation issues. It doesn't feel like there is an AC in here at all. And if they do have one, it's not quite working. League bowlers here complain about the lack of ventilation as well as poor air circulation. Just sitting here, as a spectator, I get extremely warm too. It is bearable during the winter months when it is cold out but because it's summer time, we are all suffering in here. when I arrived at the bowling alley my car said it was 91 degrees. Inside doesn't feel much different. The restrooms are more filthy these days. I feel like less and less attention is being paid to them throughout the night. I see a lot of water on the counter tops and on the floor. The sink in the middle doesn't work at all. There are usually paper towels on the floor now. Not cool, especially since the integrity of the bowling shoes is at stake, not just on the shoes of the bowlers that belong to the house but to the shoes that are owned by the bowlers themselves. I have read some of the league rules and they are absolutely ridiculous. It says kids aren't allowed at league. It's funny to read that. There may be a league going on and further down the lanes there is a birthday party going on at the same time. they may not be participating in league but they are still present. You're trying to tell me that my little one can't come and support her team or her family. that is stupid! On top of that, my little one stays out of the way. They know better than to go and disturb bowlers. She's pumping money into your arcade, half of the games barely work and aren't in the best repair. There are just too many things wrong and so many things that need to be revised. I love Seeley and Alvin. they are the best! I know I can always count on them to provide stellar service. My little one has been asked to remove their service dog. That was a shock and also unfair, as the dog is never a disturbance to anyone. SMH!!! photo: there is only fans and there is HELLA FANS here at the bowling alley. league bowlers have been bringing their own fans because there isn't enough cool air circulating in here. Terrible!

Ask the Community - Back Alley Bowling - Glendale

Has Jewel City Bowl changed ownership to Back Alley Bowling? Is the restaurant still the same?

The owners have not changed we just rebranded as we also have Back Alley Bowling in Northridge (also known as Matador Bowl). The restaurant is still the same although we occasionally make a few updates to the menu to keep it fresh and tasty. Hope to… Read more

Whats the minimum age, my son is 3?

There is no minimum age is required for bowling. We have bumpers and bowling ramps so kids of all ages can enjoy.

Is it possible to just walk in and pay for a lane or do I need to reserve it ahead of time?

it is much easier to make reservations because there are a lot of leagues that bowl there. also they have crazy long wait times, esp on fri - sun. but if you don't mind the wait and what not you can just walk in and try your luck at getting a lane.

I'm bringing some people to bowl on Thursday i dont know how many are coming do i still have to reserve ahead of time? I dont have a complete head count could be 5 to 20 not sure. Also, can we bring store bought cupcakes?

Hello Marie. Please call the center directly at 818-243-1188 to arrange for your party on Thursday. Also, we do allow store bought cupcakes. We look forward to seeing you!

Is there a max number of people per lane?

As of now, we are allowing a maximum of 5 people per lane.

Do you have pro shop?

Yes we do have a pro shop! Please call the center directly to confirm hours of operation. (818) 243-1188

Is the place pet friendly?

We love pets but unfortunately we are not pet friendly.

Are you guys open today?

We did reopen back in April and are open 7 days a week! Times vary but are listed here on Yelp.

Do you have gutter bumpers for children?

Yes. We do have gutter bumpers that can go up and down for each individual player.

Is there an early morning discount?

There are several different party packages & prices. I don't recall all their options. However the party planners are very helpful & can help you have a party within your budget;)

Do you offer 5 pin bowling?

Our apologies but we currently only offer 10 pin bowling.

Do they have a Saturday night happy hour?

Unfortunately, not at this time.

What time do they dim the lights on a Wednesday?

9pm I believe

It was a busy night apparently, but the lane next to us was empty for the duration of the time we were there. Interesting, but whatever. My cousin, who competes in local competitions, said the lanes are kind of whack as the pins go down a bit too easily and reward the crappier players. Not sure what he meant by that, but I did bowl better than my usual average of 65. Prices are decent and we took advantage of the 3-game special where the third game is half-off. Balls are in pretty decent shape and they have small to X large for everyone. Pro tip: there's a pretty good bar in here, sort of a hidden spot for locals here. If the usual popular sports bars are too crowded when a big game is on, I usually just come here. Lots of beer on tap, the screens are pretty large, and their burgers and fries are pretty good. Their cocktails are pretty solid as well. Happy rolling!

They only allowed us to reschedule. While we ultimately were able to reschedule, the lack of flexibility made for a very poor experience. The experience itself was just okay, but what really stood out was the inappropriate music videos playing on most of the screens. We had young children in our group, and the content was just bad - made me very uncomfortable being there. This is supposed to be a family-friendly place, not a nightclub. I wouldn't recommend coming here. Overall, Bowlero left a bad taste.

It's humongous, has reasonable structured parking right next to it with tons of spaces, and the win rate was very generous. It's attached to an inside mall that I didn't put a foot in, but I imagine it's a nicer mall based on the surroundings I passed. They seem to have a very large space inside, and a healthy volume of people roaming through all the aisles and arcade games. The people at the counters were also numerous and attentive. Yeah some machines were very weak and some had cheese wheels, but I think a majority were reasonably fair. I'm from NorCal and Burbank is by far my favorite Round1 at the moment. I liked this location so much that I had to visit it twice during my trip. I'm not too sure what to do with all the jumbo prizes I won! I will say though, this location has the laziest workers I've ever seen. We asked people to help us several times, and the usual response was "I'll get someone else" or being told to wait for nothing. You have to be extremely proactive and annoying about requesting for help. They're one of the first receivers of the gashapon and they're cute little keychain trinkets or figures, but ultimately I wasn't really interested in any of the random anime IPs.

Make sure your whole group is together before start time so you all play at the same time and no one misses out. Our group was a bunch of 5/6/7 year olds and the group they played against was 10-12 year olds so I felt like that was a little unfair but no one got seriously hurt so that's all you can ask for. My least favorite part was the arcade. Some of the games weren't working so that's a bust. Our kids were too young to use the VR game so it would have been nice if they got to ride the bumper cars twice instead of just losing out on that. On top of that there was only one person staffing the VR game, the mini bowling and the bumper cars so it was like 10-15 minutes between each option and there were only maybe 8 bumper cars so when there's a line the kids had to wait about 20 minutes just to ride the bumper cars. There were lines for the bumper cars and the VR so no one used the bowling because there wasn't enough staff. The pizza was fine, I believe you can order other stuff outside the party pizza if you want.

Unsure how they handled making sure they weren't overcrowded or people were waiting too long to get a chance at the games but they did a great job and I never felt like I had to wait (or wait too long) for a machine to be available. They have a large variety of games from more modern ones like Switchs in the back, older versions of Mario Kart, older games in general like Pac-Man and my personal favorite Burger Time. Loads of pinball machines too. The entire facility (and bathroom) were very clean and the ambient noise was never too loud and I never had to yell to talk to someone next to me. Some games will have slightly sticky or unresponsive switches but it's just what happens with the amount of people that use these machines. We had an issue with a pinball machine and they were very quick to come help fix it and immediately get us back to playing.
